Tricky situation, cant see what stopping using the body shop will gain you though, i have been in this situation many times with car audio engineers fitting alarms and radios, once i had to let a guy go because he was clearly taking customers from us, the others i have said look if you want to fit your mates radio on the weekend for a few cans so be it but the second it crosses the line with my work you have to decide where you want to work. We did have an engineer leave last year to go it alone and was back within 3 months so that helped me a bit as all the other guys took notice.

Requirements when buying off the public?
justina3 replied to grant8064's topic in General Dealer Chat
I am going against the grain here, I love buying of the public had some amazing bargains over the years, There are a lot of overseas students close to us who have large amounts of disposable cash and often buy nice cars, when there college course is over they return to there country of origin and always leave it to the last minute to sell there cars allowing me to low bid them. Done a deal yesterday on a mini cooper off a very nice young Chinese couple who are returning to china on Tuesday and they leave it until Thursday to start thinking about selling there car. Same old thing in the motor trade what works well for one is a disaster for another. -
lovely look car, bikes terrify me never ever been on one even a little 50cc

I just see the cookies in the jar going down and down now, but glad of the fun times, the question i ask myself now is what if i knew then what i know now would i have done the same thing and i am still 50/50 on the answer.

My cookie jar makes me shudder now thinking the amount of sugar i used to consume

oddly enough i no longer hold any interest in cars these days so what ever is floating around that is taxed and has fuel, back in the day when they where giving money away like sweets had some lovely cars these days rather see the money sitting in a property than a car.

I dont even bother anymore with the sub £1000 bracket, every single big headache i have had has come from this customer band. i do have two local traders who do it as a side line and i move this stock into them, once you set yourself up as a garage they throw every trick in the book at you but oddly enough when they buy them from my mates they never get grief.

never found a way of explaining it and getting a sale so not for me thanks

imo £300 a month is way over the top of course i do not know your business but i wasnt paying that when my accountant worked on 4 different sets of books from 4 companies.. That said i am much smaller these days and i do everything myself vat end of year bank recs ect he only goes over my end of year returns and signs off on them for a fee of £450, last year was a bit of a mare as i was away for two months and my son !! messed the job up paperwork everywhere so i am expecting it to be a tad more this year.

I couldnt agree more metcars, some of my worst ever customer have been the ones who haggled that few extra quid of a deal with you will never see me again sold as seen mate blah blah blah only to turn into a trading standards expert within seconds of driving off.
-
Whilst i am totally on your side, been bent over backwards many a time by auctions, if they didnt run a sold as seen basis i dont think they would be in business for very long the returns phone line would have melted after the first sale.

Has to be removed, hope they didnt cut the bumper to fit it, we had an A3 in not so long ago and who ever fitted it made a right hash of the mounting plate so instead of moving it they just notched the bumper.
