I found world pay the cheapest around when i reviewed it last month and i bank with Barclays, i cant see how Barclays would make money charging you 0.30pence to put say a 5k transaction through From the link provided Barclaycard terminals can make it very cost-effective to start taking card payments. Our charges are based on your turnover, as well as the average value of your transactions and the ratio of credit to debit card payments. We like our customers to know exactly what they’re paying fo

I do not think there is a simple one answer to this questions, so many factors such as your location, what kind of cars your looking for, value the list does go on.

A lot of the smell will be stored in the plastic trims on the pillars which turn yellow with a constant bash from smoking, I always start there with a very heavy apc cleaner be warned the yellow gunk that comes off is about as foul as it gets.

I always do open and honest cant be messing around with all the rubbish, they either want to deal with you or dont if they dont then i just walk away, Your clearly not alone with your business not doing as well as you would like, i got the feeling its only going to get worse. I also over prep cars but then my come back rate is very very low I would rather that than have people coming back every five mins with niggles I have had some mega bargins over the years from local people but no where near enough to keep the yard full of stock I just scrap it out at the auctions

sounds to me as if you have a good game plan, i myself though would not give the vat man a penny until obliged to keep the money in your pocket and not the mp's welcome aboard

I was going to say the same thing as Max, i would never pay out for someone else to do the work, my terms and condition state very clearly all repairs have to be undertaken by ourselves or at least reviewed by us first. We have had times where the car has gone a great distance away and then a fault popped up but luckily thats not very often

gutting times we are heading into, wish you all the very best where ever you end up

New to trading (~6months). Am I doing it right?

Cracking advise from above, and i agree think people will be biting there lips not to answer some of your questions, those of us who have to pay tax vat insurance rent rates and all the other fun stuff we have to pay then still try and compete with people who are happy to earn beer money. -

seems to be a few more people around at the moment, but still very hard to close the deals, agreed buying seems to be good as well lots to pick from and auctions reporting there not making the money, main dealers appear to be doing well looking at the fresh stock though our local auctions each week

we had similar problems, we then used a wickes two part epoxy system which came with a sealer and then top coat and its still down three years later its not cheap but does the trick. Key was the make sure the old paint had been totally removed so hands and knees and scrapped the lot off jet washed it down then let it dry applied the sealer and then the top coat we went for a grey with red boarder.

I am not a fan of white back drops makes the cars look you see on an auction house site very clinical, again thats just my point of view, I was also advised to clean up my pictures which i have great little tips you pick up on this site.

they get away with it as the customer lets them, and paying £300 for a battery ? some people just let people walk all over them

SC Derby do you mind me asking what sort of deal that is our rate is £260 per month plus vat ????

funny old business the car game is, what works for one clearly doesnt work for another, I sell bucket loads of KA's 07/08 years nothing older or newer and people avoid them at all costs in the auctions its the one car i sell month on month and make good money at. One thing that i here often at auctions is the old wives tales this dealer is doing that that dealer is doing this, I often get asked have you seen what so and so is doing my reply is always the same, sorry i havent seen what anyone else is doing i am to busy making sure what i do is the best i can.

if they cant afford to run the vehicle you can bet your last rolo that it hasnt been looked after, there is quite a few of them going through our local auction at the moment and they bring not far of a decent main dealer part x confuses the life out of me why someone would bother

Got to love a bit of Paul Hard castle remember when that song came out all the do gooders where having a right old moan about the video. Anyway it’s my 25th year in business this year, not always been selling cars but certainly involved in cars started back in the day with a car audio franchise and that soon expanded massively and so did the location we purchased a second hand car sales for us to have room to store all the cars we where working on, with the modern age of cars turning into a mobile pc and almost every car coming with something decent for audio the car audio business took a nose dive so we started to sell the odd banger here and there almost 7 years ago and now that’s the main income for the business. We still dabble and install phone kits reverse sensors and the like for the trade which is a handy source to pick up car stock, but mostly the engineers are fixing window regs and other faults getting the cars prepped for sale these days. As already mentioned you have to keep going and take what ever knocks on your door, my son has just started in the business and is as keen as mustard so I might take a bit of a back seat and carry on building my property portfolio.
