  1. It sounds like you’re getting the sweepings left on the floor Mind you if they’re sale or return, are prepped & ready to go then there can’t be much harm in it as long as you’re getting your slice out of it. I’d make sure they come juiced-up, do 20-30 miles in each one & those that are ok I’d advertise, those that show issues back heal.
  2. If it’s going abroad I wouldn’t give a f***.
  3. You can spend all of your ‘spare’ time PDIing, filling out forms, etc. but if you’ve sold to a twisty twat wanting a few shillings then you’ll have to deal with him no matter what. In the highly unlikely event someone actually takes you to court PDI forms may help, although I suspect they’d cut little ice with a judge, but in all other scenarios it boils down to whether or not YOU intent helping the customer. Personally I believe the costs of paying for independent PDIs etc. is easily outweighed by the financial savings for a couple of comebacks a year. I get most stock MOT’d so it’s to a safe roadworthy standard. Those of you who are constantly firefighting one complaint after another perhaps need to look at your prep standards or the promises you are making to customers in order to get the deal.
  4. Christ! They’ve got a Chrysler Neon for sale! I can’t remember the last time I saw one of those.
  5. Answers I have none but welcome to trading in a depressed economy. Expect it to get harder over the next couple of years.
  6. It surprises me - unlimited warranty claims for all!
  7. A pure chancer. Tell him to sling his hook & when he starts whinging tell him to take legal advice. That usually ends the matter as they assume you’re on solid ground if you’ve told them to take advice.
  8. If they’re anything like me they; 1) won’t look at Twitter. 2) even if they did they won’t give a toss. Are we seriously suggesting a whinge on the internet will get the manufacturer to stump up? If that were the case the manufacturers would end up bankrupt.
  9. And I thought it was the internet’s fault that brings us all of the ridiculous offers
  10. The only Volvo diesel you want to touch is the D5. For some strange reason the French crap they shovel under the bonnets seem a lot more fault prone than when they’re bolted into a Citroen/Peugeot.
  11. Sorry but I’d of thought the non-dealer stamp would render the manufacturer warranty invalid (even though the service had nowt to do with problem components). If it had been my vehicle that’d of been the first item I’d try to confirm. As for trading standards commenting about expecting Isuzu to be more helpful I’m afraid that just shows the ignorance of local government employees with regards to the realities of running a commercial business (and having to EARN money). My guess is you’ll have to suck this one up, sorry.
  12. If we go electric at least we won’t have any diesel injectors gumming up, sticky turbos, blocked EGRs and full DPFs to deal with. Mind you, God help us if the equivalent of the EML illuminates!
  13. Yes, different wording. Mind you, I quickly read his couple of tweets and if that’s the sort of ‘special’ York Police employ then good luck to them - the way he writes he’s obviously getting off bigging himself up. As it’s a Sunday he’ll be the sort of nutter playing the big man via ebay emailing about cars tonight.
  14. Do sweet f.a., these cretins would wank themselves silly if they saw the slightest response to their actions.
  15. Imagine going from Scotland to London in an EV at the moment - it’d take all bloody week! As for EVs being the saviour of our cities, anyone who visits central London will realise that 99% of homes don’t have off road parking (what the hell do you guys expect for a £1M flat in Kensington? ).
  16. .......or an unemployed/retired sort which unfortunately preclude them from that course of action. Remember about 27 years ago when there were no mobile phones & your house phone was connected by a curly wire? Anyhow I recall a local fella’s Mrs. had been plagued by heavy breathing & silent phone calls for almost 5 years - the culprit turned out to be a friend who they all used to go out drinking with as 2 couples. “So what?” you ask. It’s no good guessing who it is - just because someone’s a nosey busybody doesn’t mean it’s them, it could be a close acquaintance.
  17. It’ll be by someone jealous. Just ignore them cos one thing I can guarantee is they’ll have bought one packet of stickers & after that they won’t spend on any more. Don’t mention it to anyone & don’t be mouthing off in the boozer cos that’s what they want. Many months down the road they’ll possibly let slip to someone it was them. Oh yes, and it’ll be someone you know. Not a ‘friend’ but it’ll be someone you recognise.
  18. A poor month but I’ve sold a few and my problem is buying. At my end of the market the prices at the block, on DA & SYTNER are eye watering at the moment and from what I’ve seen recently the trade is buying absolutely any shite. When I’m at the block & see the trade fighting over 8-10 yr old scruffy, misfiring Vauxhall’s with rattling DMFs I know to keep my money in my pocket & let others fill-up on overpriced problem children.
  19. My immediate thought was that from the door you should be selling cheaper stuff. +1, have a read of what’s covered then you’ll soon realise you’ve been lucky not buying a knacker. Sooner or later you are going to get a right kick up the arse so get used to it. The old saying “You’re not a proper trader until you’ve had a proper loss” is very true. +1. You state you’re netting a minimum of £600 per vehicle and are selling 4/6 per month. By my mathematics that is £2400-3600 per month part time. You then state that after expenses that “doesn’t leave much of a wage once expenses have been taken out!”. This means you are grossing NOT netting £600 per vehicle. As someone dealing from the door with few overheads, no VAT, only a few quid on insurance and your main cost being advertising please I fail to understand how you haven’t got much of a wage left. Finally you say you stock 3 cars but turn over 4/6 per month which is a stock turnover of 133-200% per month! Come on, are you sure? If so you’re an industry leader. This is all meant constructively, because until you know your true figures you’ll never know where your business is at. As an example, you’re turning over so many vehicles at thousands each but you’re not yet VAT registered - that simply does not stack up.
  20. Cough! Splutter! What sort of a man gives a toss about the opinions of these keyboard warriors? I run both my life & business without any interest whatsoever in social media comments so I could not give the slightest f*** whatsoever about them. It's a common misconception that a few crap reviews will damage your business - only a small percentage of the population read them and then only arseholes take notice of them. No offence intended but there are plenty of traders who need to man-up and run their affairs their way and not crap themselves over reviews - better still, don't bother searching for them in the first place. Believe me, your stock quality (good, bad or indifferent), presentation and your pricing will have a damn sight more affect on your business than a few poxy reviews.
