David Horgan replied to NOACROSS's topic in General Dealer Chat
I've done a few over 70 years old , pension over £1,000 a month and a bit of private usually works very well , good commission too , only trouble i had was one old guy hadn't got any credit history and just wanted a Mercedes before he copped off the mortal coil , always had bangers he said so his last car was going to be a nice one , takes all sorts . -

Had this a few times with V62 forms . If you have the previous keepers post code it usually goes through ok and the new keeper gets it taxed and the V5 comes back in their name to their address . BUT I have known it go the other way and on one occasion it took six weeks to get the V5 back and be able to tax the car even with the post code , worst of that one it was a BLOODY free tax car as well . Give him the post code and fingers crossed your ok . You should be ok with the post code though , HOPE anyway

Hi First of all congratulations regarding starting out in business young fella , well done . Insurance is very difficult at your age , but get a parent to put it in their name with you as a named user to start with , did this with my son at 17 COVEA did us a good deal with him as a driver and me at the head of the policy when he started , limited him to 2.5 litre cars and only 600cc bikes till he was 19 , then we found better companies and we were off and running . All the very best with the future of the new venture , its fun , its hard work , its a challenge at times , but anything is possible with the right frame of mind . Cheers David

Well you should have looked at what your buying really , You state you also bought the car with faults present too so your not in a great place on here to start moaning about wheels are you really . Take some responsibility for your decisions and stop blaming others . The car was there for you to look at wasnt it , bet you bought it at less money than it should have been , Forget that when the moans kick in .

I have this problem when I'm selling cars from our serial car buyer , he lives 2miles away and seriously has bought 8 cars from us this year alone , sold him a Scirocco last week and yesterday he was back asking us when we are getting any GTI Golfs in or 220 VRS Skodas as he fancies one next . He now brings a letter with him to pass on to any other buyer explaining he has a problem buying cars and keeping them . Last year he bought a VRS off another trader in Sheffield and didn't like the colour " Blue " drove it down and part exchanged it for an RS 265 CUP Megane we we had two days later , Just give him a price and boom deal done , But i still hate it when the next buyer says how long has the last owner had this car then " well let me tell you a story about that "and show them his nice written letter seems to always work . I've tried getting him to tax monthly and then i don't think I'd send the V5 off he's back that quick , Feel like renting him one sometimes but selling it is more beneficial to my bank account

I,m really old school about closing , i will simply be here to sell a car , its that simple as far as I'm concerned , this week alone I've stayed open till 7pm and 8 pm to sell two cars , one on finance and one with a great px , sold the px two days later and made a good living from the three deals that wouldn't have taken place if I never stayed open . Even been here christmas day once , man rings when i was out in the woods with the dogs , I'm desperate for the GTI you have and I'm not a messer , got a Civic type R for Px too , arranged the time 50 mins later we met . GTI was a cracker , his Type R was a cracker and I went home after 30 mins with Debit card terminal full up and a nice type R which I sold in Jan . Another rang me one Sunday at 2pm from 300 miles away in Scotland , when you open till ? 4pm I said , OH I want that Corsa VXR , we arranged for him to ring me when he was at junc 30 M1 , Rang at 9.50 pm and we met at 10.30 pm at the garage , he walked in went oh yea I'll take that , paid me and drove off , all in 20 mins . My thought was if he can drive from Scotland I will meet him . Some I will ask to deposit £200 before I agree but only if I get the slightest hesitation from them . But I've had some cracking deals early mornings at late nights , I live for the deal though , don't actually need the money really but the thought of missing that deal would kill me dead . How I was trained by dad years ago I think , He was the same bless him, bet he watches me now going go on lad get that deal in the bag

Guy rang up this morning . " can i come see the UP " Walks in and does the usual MOT , found a MAJOR point of damage on the inside of the door card " was a piece of plastic stuck on the door half size of a stamp so i brushed it off " Didn't like the colour of the key fob , so i took the white UP cover off it This car has done 15k with 6 Services one owner £4,995 this car . Then told me about looking at another one yesterday that the trader had put up in price and told him that stock is that short he's put everything up in price , So his Advertised price was £4,995, screen was £5,195 " THEN BID me £4,500 from £4,995 for mine after he told me the story . NOPE sorry pal He's gone to see another round the corner , wife wants the car but his buying strategy has been confused , come in like car buyer of the year guy 2019 and left like a pussy cat . Tempted to put it up to £5,295 cos he will be back
