Yes, the halcyon days of retailing anything are well and truly over. This is the new 'normal'. My daughter runs a small online business selling make-up. She used ebay and depop selling platforms. Most of the customers are in the 16-25yr old demographic. They communicate in their own surly, rude, aggressive way. Again, its their 'normal'?

.... and speaking as someone that lives in London. I don't necessarily think that I can automatically charge more for my cars and punters will pay that. They can shop around; and all over the country too. Even 'Billy Bunter' has now realised that cars are cheaper 'if' you are willing to travel further than the end of the road?
-
Obviously with the usual caveats regarding what you sell and where you're based, I hardly ever use guides to price sale cars, mostly just research the market. I think it's just a part of the job now? Perhaps the title of this thread should have been "could you survive without CAP"
-
So, what were the 'home' prices?
-
AutoJacob Those 'sold' prices, were they 'hammer' or 'home'? And was the Astra a 3dr?
-
Both CAP or Glasses are no longer fit for purpose
-
But it's the same law for us all, regardless of where we live surely? Do guys that live in rural locations expect an easier time?
-
Be warned, many punters these days attempt fixes with parts bought as cheap as possible off Ebay. Don't be surprised if what appears to be new parts, are faulty? More so with these German performance stuff where punters insist on a full history but then maintain the vehicle on a shoe string with parts out of poundland

plus 20p for sellotape and 65p for a Daily Mail?
-
Particularly ironic considering welfare cuts will be first cuts. Then of course we'll be 'free' from the burdon of EU employment law so everyone will be heading for zero hour contracts! And working conditions straight out of a Dickens novel. No wonder customers are anxious? On a brighter note, my pal Roy always shows england flags on all of his stock on his website. I admire his commitment, or is that 'suicidal self confidence', not sure?
-
And this is why auction houses are now bending over backwards to encourage both private buyers, and new trade accounts?

I've got this at the moment with a focus bonnet lock. Ordered a 'cheap' lock assembly which works fine but doesn't fit quite as snugly as the original. They left me a questionaire type thing asking me to describe my shopping experience and i explained that the part functioned correctly but didn't fit well. They replied with "we mentioned in the listing that its not an original part" and i replied that i don't mind that its not OE, i do mind that it doesn't fit properly! We have been backwards and forwards like this for almost a week. This morning they have asked me to very nicely to: "We check the listing has been mentioned the size. Could you pls kindly check?" So, they think i'm complaining about being sent the wrong part, i think the correct part is wrong. Or at least whoever did the plastic moulded part?
-
There's nothing on that list I'd want to own

I bought a car advertised on Facebook today.....

Yes, i lived less than a mile from my local branch. I was always in there, really handy. Such a shame! Ordering over the internet might ultimately be cheaper but it is so convenient to be able to buy stuff in person, like car batteries. And you could haggle? -

Yeah, I'm not surprised. Are they the mats specially designed to curl up on the edges and slide under the pedals when you start driving? -
Used to got to WOMA for the police sales many many years ago, they had some nice vans even back then. I always thought they were 'straight shooters' for a small independent. Or at least they were compared to some of the 'bomb sites' I had locally here like Leyton car auctions (anyone remember them) and Bow?

Looks good apart from those awful mats -
Have you ever added a tow bar to a sale vehicle to increase interest?
-
I agree. One of my little rules, 'don't sell until you're ready to sell'
-
Take them off. Even 4x4 can have a hard life from towing, its all relative?
-
The vendors usually wait until the whole sale can be analysed before they'll decide on provs. I'd imagine these days vendors treat the auction houses with the same contempt as the auction houses treat bidders so as a prov buyer you're at the bottom of the pile
-
Not really my area of expertise, but I thought they were known for a bit of whining? But, an oil change would be my first move.

Back in the day, when we had to drive up to Leeds on a regular basis we used to get nasty messages left on the windscreen by the locals.
