  3. Slightly off thread, but a dealer in the same town as me had what was already a decent pitch that just required local advertising. A few years ago, Tesco, Next etc set up a retail park right next to him and wanted to buy his land for a good few quid, he refused. Fast forward 3 years and the park has been a huge success and the knock on effect for him, well to say he is having it away is an understatement. No internet presence, just pure good old fashioned footfall with good old fashioned margins solely due to location, location, location. Sounds like a good idea to me, whatever you do with it I'm sure with a little common sense it will work given what has sprung up next door. Happy days

  7. Being serious, they are cracking value. Every couple of years we play in an event called The Tassie at Carnoustie. For a couple of hundred quid it guaranties you at least two rounds, usually more, on the championship course which is usually £130 a round. Whilst up there have played amazing courses like Panmure (where Hogan practiced) and Monifieth for very little money. There are loads of other courses up there I'd like to play, if it wasn't for the weather....... As for Trump Links, I know a couple of folk who have played it and according to them it really is different gravy. That was in the early days when it was £250 for one round, a quick google search explains why they are now open to a few more deals as you pointed out.

  9. Yep, bloke around here very similar, except all he does is Fords and at the moment it's just Fiestas. I get parts off him and when I'm there i have to say they all look like value. They are not for me but I can see the attraction in them.
  10. I get one or two bits off them online, but on the whole i find their online experience **** poor due to mechanical and bodywork appraisals that give me little confidence.

    The IMDA

    Struggling to see why the animosity towards the IMDA. I've only ever spoken to a couple of them and I'm sure they have best interests of the trade at heart. I'm also pretty certain they have better things to do with their time so hats off to them and any 'doers' in this society who get nothing tangible in return. Now that there are no fees I'll be joining, seems like a bit of a no brainer to be honest. That said, I have to say this thread has done 'them' or 'us' no favours. I'm on all three major car dealer forums and it appears this is the only one where it is being discussed so for The IMDA to start a thread on here and then take their ball home when they don't like what is being said is poor form in my opinion, just imagine if Bethany did that?

  17. This. I still think they are cheaper up there, but by the time you factor in transport, recon costs etc then sadly it's not the golden goose that it once was. Shame, because they treat you well up there and not like a peasant.
  18. Hmmmmm. A little bit of manageable debt (especially now with low interest rates) won't do any harm if used properly and the moment is right. Luckily I have no debt (apart from the wife) but that's only because I took on some debt on to start with. I imagine Meadon, Jones and Co have all taken on plenty of debt in their lifetime.

  20. So, the new Motors rep was unable to make our pencilled in appointment last week and I didn't hear anything from him yesterday as was promised. Don't get me wrong, no sleep was lost on my part but very strange behaviour all the same. Clearly they don't need the business.

  22. I had something similar to option 2 earlier in the year for a valeting bay. Approx 50 square meters of proper industrial flooring which is hard wearing and wipes clean etc. That cost me £800 fitted and i have to say it's been well worth it.
  23. I know you have mentioned that before and it's an interesting mind set to have, and as Rory says it clearly works. I guess that means taking the emotion out of what you have, which is fair enough on the bread and butter stuff. But your stock has a bit of emotion in it and some of it must be difficult to source. So, would you still apply those principles to to a fancy rare as rocking horse cooper works for example? I don't bother much with stats and repricing and my view has tended to be there is an arse for every seat so let it sit there, partly because I've got so much space. It's worked to a point but I know I need to embrace such pricing and days in stock policies as yourself and maybe find the middle ground. As ever though in life, a change in mind set is easier said than done.
  24. Indeed. As an example a dealer in my town was offered big money to sell his pitch when a new retail park came to town as he was right on the edge of it. He declined, it was a busy pitch anyway but now he rally is having away through pure footfall. No online presence at all (he never did) and everything is top dollar. In fact i'd say in my area the vast majority are traditional pitches and have little online presence and is often viewed as the short straw by AT reps
