  1. LOL, it's the "Salt" the Highland Council use, fuckin' stuff is pure Brine !! Also it's fact that 90% of up here is surrounded by Seawater I have to deal with that shit on a daily basis, seized rotten fastners, no heads left on bolts etc etc and that's on 3 year old Cars Each winter I spray all mine underneath with a mixture of 50% Waxoyl and 50% el cheapo Asda Engine Oil, my Vehicles are like new underneath the grime When I repair a Customers Car it gets new bolts with whatever, copious coppaslip and then Spray Grease over the Heads and Threads, works a treat next time I have to take a bolt out where I've been before I had to drill a lower swivel Clinch Bolt out of a Hub the other day on a Fiesta, so I could drop the lower swivel and do a CV Boot lololol
  2. Up here rust eats them away front and rear
  3. It is "Uninsured Loss Cover" that is beneficial in this circumstance, clearly it is a provable loss of money, and some sort of indication of next years and the year afters extra costs would be claimable too
  4. /\ /\ /\ Agree with all those posts
  5. I only threw mine in the bin about 6 months ago when having a clear out Also sold an old Jag / Ford / Aston WDS Machine for silly high dough (£500) to a Dutch Guy, I was gonna chuck it, but spent a lot of time getting it all working years ago so I'd have took £50 just to see someone get some use from it, then along came the Clogmeister and bid stupid money for it on Fleabay Even paid me extra £75 to crate it up and got a courier to collect it lol
  6. Lower end Autel in £500 bracket If you go much lower, don't expect it to do much, they simply access less systems and a lesser percentage of codes in those systems. If you like Snap On the Solus range is reasonable and you can pay on the drip feed if you'd rather.
  7. On a Trade Policy Bollingtons do a %age NCD, a fair few years ago I hit a Micra up the arse with my Discovery and a Power Boat on the back, totalled the Micra and the car in front, only slight damage to the Disco Only lost a small percentage of my maximum NCD, now back up to Max I am fairly certain they haven't changed that. HTH,
  8. I have no idea, never tried it, I expect their insurers will not allow it, unless they have Uninsured Loss Cover, but I suppose you can persue them personally through Civil Action ................. Personally my experience of civil actions against a third party is that the only winners are the Lawyers
  9. Ahhh well, someone else had the same idea as me and bid on that Gas Analyser in the last 20 seconds, and as I wasn't prepared to go more than a £152 he won it. I'll either buy that Gunsons, or keep looking for a decent used one, I would prefer HC, CO2 and Lambda readings as well as CO The trade off with a small ish workshop is the size of the MOT ones compared to the Gunsons .............. Decisions decisions ..............
  10. /\ /\ /\ Same here, we did have one years ago at the Gearbox Firm, but the fees back then, plus machine rental etc etc .................. I do BT, Cash and PP !!
  11. I did a huge PRRAP yesterday night after a Mixed Bhuna Vindaloo with Mushroom Rice, Bombay Aloo and Sag Paneer ............................................ At first I thought I'd shit myself
  12. That'll be the RNF especially if the "Little Tykes" is using Bosch management OK, lets be serious for 5 seconds regarding RNF FWIW most Mfrs use RNF these days, that's how (on a decent Diag Machine you get "historic" codes), which of course certain Machines don't show .................. The fault has disappeared after a few Drive Cycles, so the ECU, (if it's one that is capable) will then file the Code in the Historic Codes. Mercedes and others call this the "Event Log", and Star Diagnostic, (SDS), shows a little (f) for a historic / intermittent , a big (F) for current code, and for a really old or certain other stuff (f) becomes (i) for Info, which is still found in the Event Log. This is how a mfr knows if you've been playing with a cheap / lesser Diag Machine, because although you might have cleared a present Code, it will still be stored in the Event Log, along with over revved etc etc, (all Make dependent of course) My Snap On never used to show Historics, which is why I went for all the Dealer Level Kit, but I notice since Snap On update in Jan that it now does show some Historics on some models Still what the fuck do I know, I know fuck all
  13. If it's not a CVT then it is more likely a mechanical or electrical issue, something is not allowing the Park Latch, Linkage or Gear Selector to release. There is no hydraulic involvement on regular trans, so rules out what I said earlier. I'm not really that familiar with Nissans, but a long while ago all we ever used to see Nissan wise was CVT's I thought they fitted 'em in everything lol, had a Squashqai in doing that recently, that was def a CVT It needs the linkage at trans disconnecting, then leave it overnight and first thing see if the Trans will come out of Park from the lever on the trans, if so it is not internal, etc etc.
  14. Very much this /\ /\ /\ What happens with a CVT is a band or 2 breaks off the Steel Link Chain and the pieces block the Filter, so when the oil is cold and thicker it doesn't get enough pressure to release Park until the Oil has thinned a little. Oil and Filter is a short term fix but the Chain will break sooner rather than later and then all the Diff and Drop Gear teeth will get smashed to bits making the box un rebuildable without significant surcharges. I'd go with the SOR or Gumtree / Burner Phone route
  15. Yeah, I can see the SRS light is on in that one Here's what we'll all be driving in a few more years, Electric of course https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcSw2N0i13Xuob7Q7dTTG0w_gu-nOyKBseBAqwF227inwes5Ih6r
  16. If you actually believe that then you are obviously still living in the Dark Ages
  17. Well now I have learned something .................... Are you saying VAG actually do sell VAG reman parts ?? Perhaps I need to educate my local (Inverness) VAG parts dept with a large Baseball Bat
  18. D'ya know what, Mercedes do Rebuilt EGR's as well as lots of other lumpy price parts, I fit a lot of EGR's on newer Sprinters, they are same warranty as new, and less than the decent aftermarket price ............. Just doing an Air Suspension Compressor on a 10 plate E Class Estate, MB Rebuilt Unit is cheaper than an Arnott lol Take these MB Rebuilds out of the box and you can see no difference to Brand New, and I've not had one fail yet ............. Oooops, now I've gone and tempted fate lol
  19. D'ya know what, I was gonna type a load of derogatory semi amusing abuse, but that just makes me the cunt !! I'd rather go spend my time helping someone who actually appreciates it and makes an effort to understand what I'm telling them, instead of coming back with some meaningless back to front twaddle like this shit ....................... Quote:- So your point is that whenever EML light comes on, it doesn’t necessarily mean you would get an error code? If that’s the case I strongly disagree with you and most probably you know nothing about onboard diagnostics. Agree with everything all the other members have already said since Detroit's finest programmer's last post especially re pissing around with an old Vauxhall Insignia and uses Snap On Diagnostic, shock horror a whole £4k worth ........................ Clearly he's smoking / snorting / injecting his CBD in vast quantities I hope the Popcorn and Drinks weren't too disappointing Full Stop . Yeah... well... my Dad's 'arder than your Dad. Succinctly put
  20. Ho Ho Ho That is very true, I have 2 Snap On, one Black that I bought 20 odd years ago, still VGC, and one Extreme Green which I bought 2 Years ago, still mint But although Identical except for the colour, the new one is clearly not as well built ................ I suspect Snap On are outsourcing to the land of Chinesium these days, certainly the booklet that came with the Stack said "Printed in China" and it was only a couple of hunnerid squid dearer than the Black one bought 20 years ago, so that speaks volumes I don't have rust problems with my tools, workshop is insulated and heated, always at around 18 degrees, I like it that way due to Arthritis everywhere these days However, when I bought my Black one, my old business partner bought a Mac same sort of size, he has had 2 more Mac's in that period due to them getting old and drawers distort, don't open and shut like the Snap On etc............. Time will tell There is a local guy who has a huge Workshop / Garage, and a collection of mint RS Fords, his place is seriously heated, and he also uses de humidifiers
  21. LOL, I reckon I've done a huge mortgage over the years but yeah, it's good gear, and I've still got tools i bought when I was apprentice, and if one broke he'd change it yesterday !! My old Business Partner was a Mac man, it was good, we always knew what was his and what was mine Don't have a Mac Van up here lol
  22. Jeez, I can't remember now, but basically it was telling me Turbo Actuator Position Sensor Implausible reading It's been at 6 months ++ since I last saw the Car and told them to just use it as is, or be prepared to spend a load more at hourly rate until I found the problem !! They are still driving it around quite happy, if I see him in the pub I'll get him to bring it in for a freebie look see I just don't like not knowing lol, fair enough if I know what's wrong, quote and they say no, but this bastard had me foxed Oh, btw I also changed the solenoid valve .............. Just in case Slight crack / leak in Servo Pipe makes sense now you've said it, that's my bad, I shoulda looked
  23. Hi, Aha, no I checked it for leaks on the pipes etc, with Mity Vac all good. You just got me thinking now .................... I don't remember checking to see how quick it refreshed, maybe a lazy Vac Pump or Slight leak on Servo, especially as it seems to do it when braking to a stop !! Vac Gauge teed in and inside Car and drive it around a bit eh
  24. Hi @Stalker Yes Buddy, I've had it in bits a million times, it's a very long story, but I'll be as brief as I can ........... Guy used to live in Yorkshire, now lives in Dornie, while he was visiting Yorkshire Xmas 2017 he traded in his old Car and bought the VAG crap, on way home up comes flashing GP light, I read it, it went back to car dealer, he took to Turbo specialist, came back with new (non genuine) Actuator, still same flashing GP and code, I spoke to Turbo guys who def knew what they were on about, I set it up exactly how they said with Vac Gauge, still same, (it only does this very intermittent) sometimes it'll do 10 miles and do it, sometimes 1000 miles It to and fro'd to Yorkshire a few times, Dealer did offer a refund, but guy liked the Car and opted to keep it He was happy with Dealer and I took over the fixing of it. Next I fitted a genuine new Actuator and set it all up again, still the same. Next I checked out wiring from ECU to Actuator, all good and fine, told guy to live with it, it doesn't go into limp, doesn't put up EML, runs fine etc, just puts up flashing GP light, always seems to be when coming to a stop !! No other codes over thousands of miles. Switch it off and restart, flashing gone, still drives OK. FIIK (fucked if i know) but it would be good to ring him and tell him I now know what is wrong wi' it and can fix it lol !! It's the only one I haven't actually fixed in 3 years of running this particular business, I would have carried on with it, but he doesn't earn a lot of dough, and has already spent loads of bucks on a fault that is having no ill effects other than being a bloody nuisance
  25. Ahhhh, right, yeah I understand now thanks for the info. I also quizzed my MOT man on this today .................. He said it is likely that the Snap On / Suns will have a time out in their s/w but his new Crypton will not, although obviously as he's testing he has to get all the updates when VOSA say so, and have it Calibrated regularly ................... I'm guessing the guy selling the Johnson Controls one is likely telling the truth I think it's worth a punt The Snap On stuff is all about subscriptions and updates, which I don't like, that's why I bought the top end Generic Autel Diag at £1800 recently instead of the new Snap On at 8k and insistent on subscription as condition of purchase The Fezza scraped through Idle Emissions perhaps with a little help from the Tester Everything else was good now so it has passed
