and ........................... just to make it worse ................... I'm always telling others to "read the fuckin' title / thread" on a techie forum I moderate

Thanks @Nick M.K. That's why I was asking MMY, as I didn't see 2010 anywhere, I can confirm definitely that 2011 up E Class doesn't need Puck don't recall ever having fiddled with a 2010 E DOH !! Just re read, guess I should have taken more notice of the Title ............. My bad

/\ /\ /\ +1 Is the Car actually fitted with a Bluetooth Puck ? ......................... Some MB's need a Puck, they just come pre wired, but you have to buy the Puck and plug it in, if the Car was a trade in, it is likely the PO has removed it to go in his newer MB or sell on Fleabay MMY would be useful here Simon, and what has happened to your Avatar, pale blue circle just looks Gay

Hi @Stalker , No that Civic was just gutless for a long while until eventually it would not start at all, until I opened up the Butterfly Flap manually then it would start and Idle ok IIRC I still say that if it needs a bit of throttle to fire up it is the Quantity Control Valve, well it is on the Merc CDI's with Bosch HP Pump

It's all long gone, done and dusted now, this was 5 or 6 years ago before I started properly Trading again up here 1) Broken Tail Lamp on my Vito, and a polishable light scuff on her Caddy Van Bumper. I fitted a good used Tail Lamp that I had from an old spares Vito I'd broke up the very next day to keep mine legal. 2) He was initially arsey because he believed his wife, and he thought me suggesting neither of us should claim was because I was uninsured, hence he rang the Cops. Cops visited, took details, told him I was Insured end of. Cop, at my request did not give him my Insurance details after hearing exactly what happened, and seeing no damage to my vehicle (I'd fixed the lamp the day after incident) so I played it all down and said there was no need for Ins Claim etc etc, which of course there wasn't. 3) I was in a hurry and couldn't be bothered to call the Cops for what seemed like it would be an "I'll sort mine you sort yours" issue, so I gave her my Phone Number Address etc, and she did same. I told her to get hubby to ring me. She verbally admitted to me that it was her fault ................. but she was acting strange, later conversations with locals revealed she is a proper alky. Of course when she got home and hubby quizzed her about the damage she told him a pack of lies. Anyway, I managed to find a witness, (girl in shop), who remebered me and that i was still inside the shop when the Caddy reversed into my Vito. I went and and paid hubby a visit, told him I knew she was likely pissed, told him if he persisted we'd both lose NCD's, and I'd be asking the Cops to look out for her, etc etc etc He then changed his tune and did fuck off. 4) Yes I am with Bollingtons, agree they can be a bit robotic, but I have never had a problem with them, other than asking for Trading Proof !! I had a big claim many many years ago and was my fault, I hit and demolished a Micra up the arse with my Discovery, they paid the guy out, (didn't ask for proof of trading back then, which of course I had), and I only lost a percentage of NCD. Been with them for many years now.

Exactly what I was thinking, most billies don't even know how to remove the Covers

You should have noticed a difference straight away ???? After a few hundred miles it should become really sweet, although having said that the 722.9 is never as sweet as the old 5 Speed 722.6, I'd describe the 7 speed as "Clinical" in it's shifts. Bump it should not tho
-
I don't know why I'd need to read that, just another load of gutter press "Scandal" to sell their stupid rag I am under no illusion about "Write Off" Vehicles, whether recorded or not, and as has been said before, there is no reason a properly repaired one should not go back on the road .................... The problems are all the hackers and bodgers that don't repair them properly, and that your average Joe Billy Bunter Public hears all the tales form the bar stool mechanics and know it all relatives, which scares the crap out of the vast majority of them and thus it is harder for dealers to sell them .............. Or selling without disclosure will give you grief if they find out they have bought an un registered scrappy doo salvage !! I wouldn't buy to sell one. I have bought to repair, then keep, then sold, fully disclosed years later, my re shelled EsCos for example. Stupid scaremongering articles like that do us all no favours. I'd have no problem with a repaired Car especially one that has been done correctly as so many are just very light damage, Wing / Bumper / Door etc etc My problem would be that anything that needs to go on a jig for realignment should be never allowed back !! Melt the c*nt down and make it into biscuit tins !! Re shell it yes, but that is rarely economical unless it is something valuable, and you can get a cheap shell, and do it properly!!

Exactly, it will give a short term fix if the filter is blocking with debris, but where did that all come from .............. Answer worn parts inside trans !! I have always advised folk not to waste their money on Oil and Filter unless there is no issue, and they just want the Trans serviced at 80k mile intervals Trying to fix shudders, thumps etc is a waste of time if the filter is chokka with bits
-
That's certainly the case where we are, several bodyshops do the photies and Email 'em to Ins Co, then get paid for repair or car gets written off
-
Yup, if you've got a good auto man, he's the one to sort it, could be a lot of things, but I've had some 722.9's that respond well to Adaptive Reset
-
Hi, Nope, needs going on SDS or a decent Diag Machine like Snap On may do it, HTH,
-
I did exactly that when I first moved to N/W, works fine until a pissed drunk woman who's old man owns a huge farm in Inverness reverses into your Car, whilst it is parked outside a local shop.......................... BAM !! Husband starts off being an arse because she tells him you hit her, he want's to claim off your Insurance, I tell him to fuck off and won't give details, he rings Ecilop and says I'm uninsured, I get a visit, the next step is insurers ask for proof of trading, purchase and sale receipts, adverts etc etc ................. I did get out of it by being a bit sharp right from the off, cops were satisfied I was insured, my Insurers were happy there was only very minor damage on my vehicle, and in the end he agreed it wasn't worth either of us losing NCD's for a few hundred quids damage to her Car, so an actual claim was never submitted, no loss of NCB, after 3 months Insurers cancelled the incident report etc However I was sweating for a while and I fear it could have been a whole different ball game if I had hit someone and there were injuries !!

New injector cured supposed head gasket problem?
Dave2302 replied to MJG50's topic in General Dealer Chat
I'm just going to throw this out there, but could it be possible that whoever did the Injector job had to undo a jubilee and move a hose to get at it, then rushed the job and left it loose ?? Seems funny it wasn't pouring out before and a few miles later it is ............ No doubt your garage will find the issue -
First thing I'd do is reset the Trans Adaptives and drive it for a day or 2 ................ If (as most cars that have stood around during trade in to re-sale process), it has had a flat battery and jump start the Adaptives can end up spiked and don't re learn Curiously it always seems to be the 1-2 shift that hits hardest !! HTH
-
@trade vet No worries, I know you weren't singling anyone out, and yeah, I know what you mean, but OP seems to be wanting to do what I do sales wise, so I just wrote an essay @MJG50 S Classes lol, over the years I have bought a fair few W220's and latterly W221's in the past couple of years, mostly CDI's, the odd V8, a couple of non runners, common Electronic problems usually following a flat battery Great money in an S Class, well most MB's really, especially if it isn't Silver, but even MB Tech's struggle to understand them I have had them in millions of bits over the years and can likely tell you what is wrong without a diagnostic read on a lot of the faults

Dave2302 replied to MJG50's topic in General Dealer Chat
/\ /\ /\ lol they can't diagnose with the machine either "Fitters" not mechanics. If that Jaguar needs a head job I wouldn't fuck with it, I'd get a known good engine from a trusted source and swap it out !! -
Give a few Mercedes a go, BMW are OK, but IMHO avoid VAG stuff like the plague, they bite your ass Buy late Cars with a problem privately, just watch the ads for a few weeks, if they've still got it go look see make bid !! But you seriously need to sort out a decent mechanic who has lot's of contacts you need an old git enthusiast like me, but sadly for you guys I'm too far away (and probably charge too much), although that said I do do trade work rates !!

New injector cured supposed head gasket problem?
Dave2302 replied to MJG50's topic in General Dealer Chat
TBH sales wise I don't usually touch Jaguar these days, since the hey day when they discontinued the original straight 6 and V12's but I used to do a lot of those back in the 80's and 90's, owned a fair few too. The V8's I've worked on a few now, there are 3 or 4 running around these parts who are good Customers of my Workshop, normally I'm dealing with Coils, ABS Pumps and water ingress causing Electronic issues on them. My customers have already had Pumps and Timing Chain upgraded Tensioners now. The V8 Jag's are a money pit, much more so than an equivalent Mercedes Water Pumps are a common item, and absolutely pour coolant out when they really let go. You need to find a good indie near you, and don't believe anything a main dealer tells you. Start with a cooling system pressure test, any good honest mechanic should be able to do that and confirm if it is Pump or not, then go from there HTH -
Also very true, but so should your profits, the deck of cards falls down when you are small and try to get big too quickly, start to miss stuff, can't afford staff in a quiet spell etc etc I'd personally still stick to my own ethos, I'd rather have minimal overheads and sell a few with decent profit, than be working all hours to sell a lot of units for (much) smaller profits. However, remember, I am now 57 years old and it has taken a long while and a lot of real life experience to get to that stage
-
As far as I know there are only 3 basic reasons a Car with damage will be un recorded ................ 1) It was 3rd party insured, or owner didn't want to claim......... Perhaps hit something pissed and drove off, young driver doesn't want a claim etc this sort of thing. 2) Has been through Insurance Claim, but not yet entered on register, (it will be tho) 3) Someone entered wrong details at time of registering and so the seller got very lucky (likely very rare).

Errrrm, as I am the only one on here who has mentioned a figure of 3k in a Car I will elaborate a bit (as I often do) The OP sounds and has confirmed in the above quote that he wants to operate in a similar way to me, also make money from Prestige stuff !! He isn't getting a good profit out of small cars, would prefer lumpy prestige I certainly wasn't suggesting I sell 30 units per month with 3k profit, fuck me backwards if I did that I'd only work 3 weeks a year, I have no mortgage and small overheads nowadays The OP is clearly wanting to do like I do, I came up here to the NW to be semi retired, what I do now is just a hobby because I got bored sitting in a local Pub 3 or 4 afternoons a week !! His problem is obvious, he is buying at Auction, and is not in the know as to how to fix these Cars with "minimum expense", but still make sure you don't see them again Buy Privately, watch for a few weeks, then move in, and sort out your repairs and parts infrastructure. Here is some more advice / knowledge ................................ I had already built my Workshop and brought all my Tools etc, Cars have always been in my life since I was an early teenager, modding my own vehicles and repairing them is something I have always loved. If you know where to look, and what to buy regarding Prestige and then you can and will be able to have 3k out of 10 plate upwards stuff, especially taking on board my advice about repairing them efficiently (= properly but cheaply) I have never had to go to a Main Stealer to have anything fixed.................... 2 years ago if I hadn't got a certain Dealer Level Machine I would buy it .............. Now have all the ones I will ever need, and I update them ............... Years of contacts means good used parts at sensible prices, from say likes of Dronsfields (just for example, there are cheaper). I use a very very good guy who can "Virginise" any locked modules etc, so I can then code 'em to the Vehicle. Years of experience working on Prestige, (which is on going learning), as well as when I had the Auto Trans Firm means I know what will likely be wrong by simply looking / listening, and I will always want to plug a used car in to a Diag Machine before buying it ................ If the owner says "No" then I will walk, if the Car is miles away I ask him first. Very rarely does anyone say no, the only ones who will are dishonest lying twunts anyway, and I'll usually have sussed that out on the phone When I have done all that I kick them right in the nuts with a stupidly low offer, knowing full well they simply don't want to spend that on a Car they have likely owned since new / almost new, there are a lot of folks who would rather buy a brand new Car than spend money fixing one they have owned for a few years. If they won't accept my offer, I'll move along to the next Car, that rarely happens because I don't just make an offer I justify it by explaining what is wrong and quoting the sort of figures to repair that I know they will have been already quoted !! This may be a location thing, but I doubt it, I often buy from England, I even bought one recently from Dover area, and still had a massive profit. I know a couple of big used dealers, (who I used to do Transmission work for), one in Kent and one in outer London Area who make an absolute killing doing exactly as I do, and they are still doing it today, albeit they now have Salesmen and many other Staff, so they don't actually attend work that often !! Over and out

Hi, and welcome to the Forum I'm sure Nick will back me up here, both he and I sell late Prestige stuff .................. He does a helluva lot more units than me, because I'm also running a busy workshop, specialising in lumpy prestige, dealer level diagnostics etc and also in my old age I'm a lazy fucker who doesn't need to earn a fortune these days, been there spent that etc, several times over You have got to know what is likely wrong with these Cars, you've got to have a good source of decent used spares, and you have got to have a good but reasonable Mechanic / Sparky who can fix them, or have your own workshop like me. I buy late stuff for peanuts, where the seller has been quoted telephone numbers from the Stealers and they cost me very little to repair, prep and sell I'd much rather do 10 cars with 3k + in them, than do 30 Cars with £500 across them
-
I'd go as far as to say most people

A few more £ spent on a bit of fun lol ................... Not as much as you might think, I only paid £90 inc postage for the Stainless Rollover Bars, EBay good s/h I'm going to carry on dressing the Car over the Summer, until the V8 goes in over Winter I haven't found a set of the Brabus Wheels yet at the right price, I'd like to get the same ones that were on Brabus R170 car number 5, the last one of 5 that they built.............. I can get them brand new at around £850 each wheel There's no rush, I put brand new Avon Tyres on the stock R170 V6 Staggered set up in December, so I'd like to get some use out of them first anyways. At a push I could get another set of S55K 18"s I bought a set of 4 last year for £500, just very slight chips around the rim edges, didn't take much to re paint them, see last pic.
