Have you got any trouble codes out of it? If it starts after a reboot it might be the gateway module behind the glovebox.

Time to check the wiring again then. It’s not rocket science on this engine. The ECU is in the engine bay, a “decent” sparky should be able to test it. I had a Astra with similar codes a long time ago that needed an ECU. I can recommend a good supplier of a plug and play ecu should it need one.

Anyone changing shocks on VAG group cars for slight misting of oil is wasting their money in my books. They all do it, brake cleaner and an air line will suffice.

The gunk is from the coolant bottle (it has a little section in the bottle with a sealant type solution) and heater matrix do get blocked very easily with the said solution. Water pumps leak for fun usually. Vag specialist should know that.

Yes its true, we have a mechanic that left us to go and work at VW and he has confirmed this. The infotainment module does too much, if you saw the list of jobs it does you would be amazed.
