    Right, you lot. I know there's a beef online between Ling and others - and I'm sort of fed up playing the referee in the middle of it all. @LINGsCARS - pick up the phone to me - as per my DM - and we can have a chat... I love your passion and your business. Please just try not to wind people up. Let's all try and be nice to each other. The world is a crap place right now and dirt slinging simply isn't needed. I get that the above maybe intended to be lighthearted, but come on, let's think about things before posting. I've spoken to all others concerned and agree there has been fuel added to the fire on all sides. Let's shake hands, nod in that way you do in the playground when the teacher has told you to kiss and make up - and concentrate on building all our respective businesses so we can crack on when we all get back to normal. Here's an idea - let's all go outside for Easter and enjoy some sunshine. Maybe the Vitamin D will chill everyone out. Much love, peace, etc James

    God only knows the thinking behind this. Garages are open, MOT stations are open. This was a very bad decision. I don’t see any genuine justification for this whatsoever. As cars are supposed to be roadworthy what’s the problem getting them MOT & rectified, if necessary? Never mind an extra 6 months, I see the state of some of these cars with 6 months left on them. Anyone in this game knows that a reasonable proportion of the public, and it’s not just the banger punters (punters strapped-up on some shite finance deal are just as guilty) have no intention / interest in maintaining their cars - they’re just interested in running them as cheaply as possible.

    A 2nd vote for Ashley at UK Global, however Aston Lark came up trumps for me this year with AXA, and I was also on the NIG deal last year.

    Few year ago i was dragged through the courts, yes a car, claiming car was = misdescribed, faulty since collection, onto car hire, lost wages, stress, storage, and then costs, up to £3k for the additions alone, maybe more, judge to decide. This customer had been looked after 100% up to the point they broke it, clearly not my problem, even though tried to help them in that department, so it turned sour, demanded full refund, nothing less, it would have been easier to just cave in, [ and cheaper if guilty] but, explained to them in detail, calmly, not my problem, so they decided to put me through 9 month of paper work going back and forth through the court system, hours and hours researching how the "claims" system works etc etc, As you know its 50/50 with these cases, so always a concern, so, with proper methodical defence i got a case dismissed, they appealed, and got a case dismissed again. Well, as you do, you tend to keep your eye out on these kind of people, and i learned yesterday, there "business" has gone bust AND they have missed out on the grant nasty people................what goes around..........

    Just had a telephone call from Aston Lark insurance informing me policy is due beginning of May. I placed my business with them last year after an introduction via the IMDA membership and to be fair they came back with a very good quote using NIG together with a few little sweetners, 0% finance on all monthly payments, anyone can drive on my policy with my permission for business use, handy when you can rope a few people in to drive stuff back from the auctions. It would appear now though they have kicked NIG into touch and all future business is going through AXA. I have not a had a renewal quote as of yet but as we are all sitting at home trying to keep ourselves busy now is an ideal to have a bit ring around to get some additional quotes. Any recommendations for a decent reliable broker?

    The full ramifications of this, like the corona, will take a while to whittle through our heads, so far i have read that just because it has come in quick, it will be a LOT longer before it is reverted to 12 month. 3 year old cars that have seen little besides a service now get 3.5 years, so it hits these too,garages have had there bread and butter removed from them for 6 month, many who lease there mot equipment will go down the swanny, established mot stations see there business lost overnight, parts dealers sales down, tyre sales down, on and on, and what do we get ? more danger on the roads. maybe one good thing, do not bother phoning up for appointment, just turn up, on second thoughts see above

    Yes,all repairs done in house here I get daily ecp updates not sure if they are via the omnipart link or mushta account but on special offer monday was a 500ml can of brake cleaner at £4.95,-strangely they had these on offer last month at 98p so i bought 30 Point being if you aren't on your toes and only buying just in time components you get your glands felt by all the factors This is why it's good to specialise,you can buy cheap in distressed markets,for instance I buy air filters in 10.s As you say buying wisely is the key,I can usually do a good appraisal on a shitter from photos,best thing was mot history appraisal ,now that's well fecked up

    I've just written a tale about offshore insurers similar to what you have just put but decided not to post it I recommend a named name because it's an insurance policy ie you are looking for assurance in insurance more than just filling a legal duty

    I get them MOTed anyway so any punter with a minus-month MOT will be offering scrap money unless I’ve got big money across the car to play with. Any more & I’ll drive them & then shred them to bits. Bangers customers usually only trade in for one reason - they think (rightly or wrongly) their car is about knackered and will cost £££ to repair. The saving grace with cheapies is they usually cost absolute peanuts to repair, it’s just the customers are too lazy, stupid and/or greedy to spend a few quid.

    I can see why its been done but if someone comes in AFTER lock down and back to normal with a part exchange and uses the "its mot 6 months Extension mate" and the MOT has long expired they will be told to go and get an MOT, as there will be no excuse at that point.

    Bare minimum at MOT time and then same again next year. If I was in the banger end of the market I’d be exploiting this MOT extension.

    Very different experience to mine, last couple of years no matter how much I shop around my quote is always gone or take a few percent. Only thing I can think of is once you get maximum ncd the market has little left to give.

    It says autotrader have a record amount of cars advertised ...mainly due to free advertising in April. Do you think they should be advertising at all? Should any car dealerships remain open...even for the mainly faux (in my opinion) no contact sales. Surely at this time car sales are non essential? The car trade is a prime example ( not the worst...and one of many) of a general lack of social responsibility. Surely a short, sharp complete lockdown and suspension of absolutely everything non-essential is at least worth trying and preferable to the much more likely scenario of this dragging on and the country being in partial half arsed lockdown for the rest of the year.
