Couldn't agree more GG what we collectively have to learn after years of being taught to fight one another is that if we all stood together we really can make a difference and make our jobs a lot more easier all it takes is for us to have the b@lls to do it. After all the big greedy boys in our industry need us more than we need them. It's a lot easier to start a used car sales operation than it is to appoint a whole new dealer network.

Let's see if collectively we can stamp out illegal roadside traders
Phil H replied to Phil H's topic in General Dealer Chat
Yes name and shame, part of the problem is that these people can advertise wherever they pay their money as most of the advertising portals aren't interested in who advertise's with them all they want is their money. I'm bringing something to market that bucks the trend with this and will only allow the decent people in the trade have access. You can read all about it via the link below. If you don't want to name and shame then please PM me with his details so that he doesn't get involved with my system http://cardealermagazine.co.uk/publish/now-independents-can-access-cash-for-cars-market-with-new-website/103224 -
I've come across this before and it's usually carried out by dealers who would much rather sell for nothing to hit target then have to register a load of pre reg to get the back end moneys. Here's how they did it. They would sell the cars completely at cost i.e the full 10% front end margin shown as a discount, a PDI and Plate would be invoiced at £495 so therefor they were working for a couple of hundred profit on the PDi and all of the back end monies assuming they hit target. IMHO it's a very risky strategy and the only one to benefit is the manufacturer as if unsuccessful you may still have to register a load of stock to hit target.

Mercedes boss Gary Savage - what would you ask him?
Phil H replied to James Baggott's topic in General Dealer Chat
I'd ask him his thoughts on pre reg and pcp's and question if this is the right strategy for long term sustained growth. -
Well done Jamslug, once you're over the fear factor it's easy, IMHO autotraders a dead duck and in a decade they will be a distant memory unless they listen to their customers and stop putting greed first.

Part Time Home Sellers - Manheim Trade account
Phil H replied to Nick's topic in Frequently Asked Questions
when I set mine up I filled in the paperwork at the start of the sale and it was all sorted by the time I'd bought and came to pay. That was 10 years ago though -
Cheeky b@stards have they got your permission to advertise your property?
-
I had something similar with a fiesta the other day and it turned out to be 2 fuses had blown and the running out of juice symptoms completely threw us.
-
tell DA about it would be interesting to see what they do about it, it's clearly either the main agent selling a car for a local dealer as a favor or the local dealer breaching copyright on the pictures etc on something that he doesn't own. Either way something needs to be done about it.

Here's the man's reply HiYes in great condition. You can come and view but u can assure you this is a great runner with no faults Lying B@stard. Think I'll make an appointment to view, anybody fancy coming along with some hidden camera's and film us exposing the conman then publish it on you tube to warn others?

I used an astravan for 18 months, taxed it 3 times for 6 months each time using the same reference number from the green slip and paying in full, it was passed to trade and never had a problem. Apparently if you pay by DD that's the only time that you need to register it in your name as the green slip is only valid once.

sent him an email to see if he's an honest person Hi Mate, what's the mechanical condition like any problems that I should know about as looking to buy one for a customer and would have to put a warranty on it.RegardsPhil I'll post his response if any.

make sure you only use 5 30 fully synthetic low ash oil saves a lot of trouble

try cleaning the egr valve and check your glow plugs, I buy loads of vans with this engine in very cheaply because people are afraid of them, most of the problems are due to carbonization giving off false readings. Let me know how you get on or just ask for any further advice

most of us dealers wouldn't fall for this it sounds like it's one for wbac or wwac as we all know they don't do their checks properly. Publish the reg so we can keep an eye out for it going through the block.

Decided to google the term wbac earlier to see what the competition and prices where for this term with google adwords and to my amazement there were no sponsored adverts not even webuyanycar sponsor this keyword search, so I added .co.uk to it and amazingly lots of sponsored ads come up, webuyanycar, wewantanycar, money4yourmotors, bestcarbuyer, buymycar, sellmycar-wecometoyou plus others. I found this strange as I've not even launched yet and already must be rattling the cages of the big boys for them to use some of their big budgets against me. This put a smile on my face and I hope it puts one on yours GG.

ITV can't be making much from advertising revenue from this, last week the only adverts where for nationwide who sponsor documentaries and for upcoming programs on ITV. It was the same this week so if anyone's looking for some cheap TV advert deals here's your chance. On second thoughts it'd probably be just as much of a waste of money as the program itself.

I had one of these and all was fine apart from the finance company / broker deducted a £150 finders fee from the balance, just make sure that's not in the dealer offer and warranty letter or their T's & C's

give John France a call at premier insurance in winsford 01606863400, dead straight bloke who handles insurance for a couple of thousand dealers, he'll see you right. tell him scouse van Phil gave you his number.

well done maybe bethany's reading this and the penny's dropped and she can convince her bosses that greed is not the way forward but looking after their faithful dealers because very soon a product is going to come on the market that will take the market by storm and severely dent their dominance. If it goes quiet don't rush back but try other things, I've not used AT for about 2 years now and still selling just as many if not more.

simon if you're going to make it work you need to keep your costs down without comprising on your customer experience. One way of doing this is if your can carry out the mechanical work or paintwork yourself. Don't know if you have the skills to do this but before you leave a secure income just dip your toes in and see how you go before going b@lls deep. I do hope you're not one of these people who are brainwashed by tv programmes like wheels steals and deals who imho fantasize about how easy our Job is because in reality it's not. Done right you can make good money, done wrong and it could wreck your life and health. Don't be afraid to ask for advice on here as a lot of genuine people post on here but you'll also find out very quickly that there are a lot of t@ssers in this job who will lie to you and stab you in the back and see harm done to you easier than a dog cocking his leg for a p@ss. I'd also think about going in with someone who you trust as this will halve the profits but as the saying goes 2 heads are better than 1. Good luck with whatever you decide and keep us posted.

Warranty Companies " Who do you choose " total loss of faith
Phil H replied to Mislead's topic in General Dealer Chat
IMO this is just a get out clause as you probably pay a fraction of the price for your warranty's as they would charge the retail man if they bought it direct from them. I really would consider doing your own warranty's in the future and just put an amount per sale into the pot for any comebacks, say £100 - £200 per unit, unless you're really unlucky you'd probably have quite a lot left in the pot at the end of the year. -
I've got a stocking plan but rarely use it, BCA offer one with quite cheap fees £35 admin fee, 27p per thousand per day interest, £25 admin fee after 60 days, full balance repayable after 120 days but you can only buy on it from them which does limit you buying options and force you to pay their prices. Nextgear capital who are owned by manheim do one which lets you buy from anywhere but the initial fee is £65 if it's bought from an auction or £85 if bought from elsewhere. After, I think, 45 days you have to repay 25% of the capital and another fee, not to sure on the rest of the fees and interest. Finance companies offer them based on your finance volume and stock can be bought from anywhere and if you give them enough business you don't pay any fees or interest. I've found the cheapest and more flexible one is an overdraft from the bank, some good deals out there I was offered one with hsbc, a 30k unsecured overdraft for £300 per month if you use it all.

couldn't agree more. Only problem with these is the amount of times you may have to replace the cats due to theft. My advice to anybody buying one of these is to get a cat lock fitted.
