  1. I also forgot to mention the alternators are part of a smart charging system and can cost a fortune to refurb, they eat nsf wheel bearings, back lights suffer with bad earths due to water ingress. But on the plus side stereo's all right and when played very loud it silences all of the rattles and creaks. Did he buy it?
  2. some do some don't best thing you can do is give your ford garage a call and see if they list a dmf for that reg. My gearbox place are normally very good and that typed the reg in and not part number for a dmf came up only part numbers for a solid flywheel. It's just a case of the manufactures putting whatever parts they have on the shelf to keep the lines fliwing
  3. spoke to my gearbox people for you no dmf listed for that van reg. Ask him what council it came from and speak to their fleet department who will normally answer any questions for you. If when you get there it's a six speed it does have a dmf. You can always check with your local ford dealer who will normally tell you what repairs have been done under warranty
  4. transits suffer from egr problems, injector problems, fuel pressure sensor problems on both the pump and end of the fuel rail, if you can take a diagnostic machine with you and plug it in as not all of these faults will bring the eml on. if it's got any sign of hunting then it probably needs an egr valve, check the viscosity of the oil as if some of the injector seals go diesel leaks back into the oil, any sign of smoke coming out of the oil filler cap then it's either got injector seals gone or a blocked breather. they also have a timing chain on them which do go so check for any rattle's. don't forget the normal transit rust problems. The gear cables also stretch so be sure to check these.
  5. the cost of ppc has rocketed over the years, back in 2005 I was paying between 8 to 12p per click for the keyword sell my car, now the big greedy boys have got involved the average cpc for the same keyword is a staggering £3.82 per click.
  6. I did mention this thread for you jamslug on a recent podcast that I did with Derek Blair, you never know they may of listened and sent a memo round to save on you suing them for finger nail replacements.

  8. Here's the response from the government with reference to the email that I sent them Roadside Car Sales Thank you for your email of 2 October to the Department for Transport about roadside car sales. It has been passed to Defra as the department responsible for this policy area and I have been asked to reply. To help you address your queries, I am enclosing a short briefing note setting out the Government’s position on this matter. Should you have more detailed questions, these can be addressed directly to the department via the contact details provided at the end of this note Yours sincerely, Fact sheet: Roadside car sales Last updated: July 2015 From time to time individual private vehicle sales may take place from the roadside, such as outside the owner’s house, but using public highways, grass verges and lay-bys as car showrooms is unsightly and potentially dangerous. Under the Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act 2005, it is an offence to offer for sale two or more vehicles as part of a business within 500 metres of each other on a road or roads. Local authorities have the power to issue fixed penalty notices of up to £100 to anyone carrying out a car sales business on the highway. Alternatively they can take the case to court, where the fines may be significantly higher. Local councils also have other powers to tackle nuisance parking. In many cases, the easiest way to prevent businesses from repairing or selling cars on the road is to establish parking restrictions in an area. Through the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1982, councils can also: designate streets in their area for street trading purposes; ban all trading in those streets; or license or otherwise permit trading in those streets. Depending on the circumstances, councils may use other powers, such as those in the Road Traffic Acts in relation to supplying unroadworthy vehicles or, if they suspect a trader is evading tax, coordinate action with local revenue offices. There might also be scope for action under local planning laws if land or property is being used for business purposes where this is not permitted. The Department for Transport is responsible for policy on parking restrictions, but it is local authorities that decide on a proportionate response to local issues and which powers they wish to use in doing so. If the problem persists, the first step should be to complain to your local authority. If the matter is subsequently not resolved, you may wish to raise your concerns with the council’s Chief Executive, Monitoring Officer and local councillor directly. If, after doing so, you remain dissatisfied with the council's actions, you may then wish to contact the Local Government Ombudsman (www.lgo.org.uk, 0300 061 0614). The Ombudsman is charged by Parliament with investigating complaints by individual citizens that they have suffered injustice arising from maladministration by local authorities, and is independent of both central and local Government to ensure impartiality in decisions. The service is free of charge. Contact Details The Defra helpline can be contacted on 03459 33 55 77. Alternatively, you can contact us by email at helpline@defra.gsi.gov.uk, or write to us at: Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Nobel House 17 Smith Square London SW1P 3JR Our target is to reply within 15 working days.
  9. If I was a suspicious person I'd hazard a guess that since manheim have bought them they are now reducing the fees payable to the carrier and increasing the fees to be registered on the system, whilst expanding their own fleet. Anyone else think the same or is it just me
  10. bet your mechanic loves you with your re con costs. how his holiday home in Barbados by the way?
  11. it's probably got something to do with merging it with the cock up of the new mot software that caused all the crashes recently.
  12. Benefit Corporations are for-profit companies that are obligated to consider the impact of their decisions on society, not only shareholders. Radically, positive impact on society becomes part of a Benefit Corporation’s legally defined goals. I wonder if this one will take off in the motor trade?
  13. very quiet on vans but I've managed to sell a combo van that I've had on stock since Feb 2014 and still made a profit. it just goes to show how much prices have risen in this amount of time.
  14. I deal with close motor finance, always found them very helpful and will try to make the deal if at all possible and work closely with you.
  15. I hope not too jack but I think the longer it goes on until a lid is put on it values will suffer along with consumer confidence, as soon as a plan is in place to rectify the issue and all those affected compensated prices will start to rise again
  16. simple maths, 16986 vehicles currently available, on average 5 staples per car 84930 per week, think I'm in the wrong trade bet there's more profit in selling staples to BCA than selling cars bought from them.
  17. Morning all, I'm not sure if you heard my podcast with Derek yesterday but one of my ideas was to make changes to the MID so that potential buyers can check to see if it is insured on a traders policy. Today I've spoken to the MID database who have listened and are willing to see what they can do and the man who can make this happen is the the Rt Honorable Patrick Mcloughlin MP so I've sent him the following email and would ask each and everyone of you to send him an email asking for this change and let's all together start doing something about these rogue traders. Unfortunately I don't live in his constituency of the Derbyshire Dales so if any of you do your email will get priority over mine, his constituency email address is patrick.mcloughlin.mp@parliament.uk and his DFT email address is patrick.mcloughlin@dft.gsi.gov.uk the subject was idea for changes to the MID database to help prevent people getting conned by illegal roadside traders Dear Sir, I’m not sure if you’re aware of a big problem within the country of illegal motor traders selling cars from the side of the road posing as private sellers. Often the vehicles which these people are selling are death traps and the buyer has no come back whatsoever when something goes wrong, when they should. I have a very simple idea which could make a big difference to these people getting away with it. The idea is as follows and I’ve been informed by the MID that you’re the person who can make these changes happen. Every vehicle which is on the roads in the UK has to be insured and it’s details appear on the MID. If you made a slight change to it so that any potential buyer of a motor vehicle could search the VRM (vehicle registration mark) on the MID database and it would then tell the buyer whether or not it the insurance was held on a Motor Traders Insurance policy or not. This would not completely stop this illegal activity happen but it would certainly make it harder for these illegal Traders to operate and get away with it. These details can already be accessed by the Police and other Government organisations. Thank you for taking the time to read this email and I would appreciate any advice on how I can make this change happen. I look forward to your reply Kind Regards Phil Hayes If you think this is a good idea then tell all you're friends to send it to him, he represents us so if enough of us do it He's got a legal obligation to listen. It may not come to anything but it'll take you very little effort and less than 5 minutes to see if together we can make a difference. Thanks Phil
  18. The press and other bodies will try and talk down the fact that values will suffer as no one wants to see such a good brand falter away, but deliberately deceiving your dealer network and your loyal customers for greed rather than profit will damage them until they've rectified their mistake and made sure no one is out of pocket regardless as to when or where the vehicle was bought from. I've read reports that they new about it years ago and made a decision to use the software to save $355 dollars per vehicle. IMHO the short term panic and uncertainty will cause the values to fall until such a time as you can pick up a golf for the price of an astra and every car involved has been rectified then demand will increase and prices will start to rise again but will take a long time to get back to over book prices being paid for these models. The product is still a very good one and VW will learn from their mistakes, bounce back from it and hopefully lead the way for transparency in the industry. let this be a lesson to other big corporations in the motor trade (not mentioning anyone in particular but a few spring to mind) put your customers first before greed for your shareholders and the profit will come naturally for a long time to come. Your overheads are massive and how long can you ride the waves with a dwindling income before you join the likes of Ratners the jewelers.
  19. with regards to all Renault window regs and motors I do know that Renault did have in place a dealer contribution regardless of age for repairing these even if you're not the first owner or its out of warranty as they realize they're rubbish. Don't know if they're still doing it but worth a phone call just in case. They also had one for 2.0 dci engines with knackered injectors.
  20. they used to but now they're owned by autotrader things may of changed, can you not sign up to cartotrade as that's free for dealers at the moment
  21. can you not get a 2 week free trial to try and see if you can shift it?
  22. My first lesson in the trade was to watch the osf wing when reversing to the left and not go through the showroom window with it. Expensive mistake.
  23. Message me and I'll get you access, have a listen to this thought I'd try to highlight your problem and try to get some momentum to what James said http://traffic.libsyn.com/cardealerpodcast/The_scurge_of_roadside_traders.mp3
