  2. Give them both barrels, and I've found out Bethany is a real person and does exist.
  3. whereabouts in the country are you located?
  4. Er indoors is always shopping there, all I know about it is when I get a text message to let me know my reservation is ready to be picked up, so I trundle off pay for it and pick it up only to return the next day to get a refund under their 14 day no quibble money back guarantee. Imagine doing this on a new car do you think the manufacturer would assist the dealer in the returns process or just be happy with the extra registration?
  5. And how much stuff does argos have to take back because when you get it home you realize you've just paid good money for not very well made cheap imports
  6. I had a similar one last year, guy came 90 miles through rush hour traffic, loved it, test drove it, agreed a deal, shook on it then he said I'll just go and get my wallet from the car to leave a deposit, got in his car and drove off.
  7. some interesting comments, glad to hear his opinions on brokers / middlemen IMHO these are the people who make it hard for dealers to retain decent profit margins.
  8. Couldn't agree more GG the time is coming we just need a few more like minded dealers like ourselves who've had enough and genuinely want to make the trade better. Without divulging exactly (and make it easier for the big and greedy to try and combat our measures) how collectively the balance of power in our industry is well and truly going to change and lye with us hard working, risk taking, respectable dealers who play by the rules and aim to give 100% customer satisfaction. For those of you want to do something and get involved in making our jobs easier here's a taster of one of the 3 things that we'll be launching very soon. http://screencast.com/t/aXxsTdATiBa Find out how you can OWN a part of this and a lot more by joining the independent dealers section on Jim's forum www.twittercardealers.ning.com It's time to collectively do something and stop moaning, time to prove to people that WBAC doesn't stand for some dodgy car buying website but for WeBringAboutChange.co.uk - WBAC.co.uk for short. Just one of a few websites which are ran by respectable dealers who are committed to changing the motor trade for the better whilst slashing many of our costs. Join GG and other big names in the industry who've already shown their support by clicking here
  9. for years joe public have had it rammed down their throat about never paying full price as we have a vast margin what they fail to tell joe public is that we have to put a vast margin across the car to pay for all of the extortionate fees associated with buying and selling cars, buyers fees, advertising fees, vat etc etc makes me laugh, 'save money by going direct to the auctions and cutting out the middle man', is it not the auctions who have become the biggest middlemen of all by buying and selling their own stock whilst flouting the consumer rights act with their cash for cars and auction operations.
  10. Just goes to show their ethos and practices haven't improved since taken over by BCA and us dealers get the bad name http://cardealermagazine.co.uk/publish/advertising-watchdog-rules-against-misleading-we-buy-any-car-mailshot/113249 Time for the real WBAC to get going WeBringAboutChange change is just around the corner
  11. baffled as to why he was suspended from posting for a couple if weeks?
  12. well sometimes you don't get everything that's in the shopping list, don't think it'll bother them just yet as at the moment only a small part of it will help put yet another nail in the coffin of what once was a very good business when it was ran by dealers for dealers. It's the shareholders of the others who'll get the jitters first, followed shortly by theirs. For those of you who don't know about our little projects, WeBringAboutChange (WBAC for short) with BuyersCompared for starters which comprises of UsedCarDealersYouCanTrust You can read all about our vision in the independent members area of Jim's forum www.twittercardealers.ning.com once you've been approved membership you can apply to join what's been branded "the most credible threat not only to the cash for cars market but to the auctions themselves" But we won't let anyone join us you must be a dealer who is Vat registered, have a website, have the ability to appraise cars properly, want to change the industry for the better and more and more importantly be a dealer who can be trusted by customers, suppliers and fellow dealers then your bottom line will greatly benefit by joining us. Fly by nights and Swiss Tony's need not apply.
  13. what's on their shopping list? http://www.digitallook.com/news/news-and-announcements/auto-trader-directors-and-managers-sell-60m-worth-of-shares--1106269.html how do you explain this one to your customers and does your buyers fee cover you for this? http://www.examiner.co.uk/news/west-yorkshire-news/car-transporter-fire-causes-hold-11217891 and finally Bethany how big is the sign on the wall saying THEY NEED US MORE THAN WE NEED THEM. Does it exist and has anyone seen it and got proof?
  14. you don't need a ticket mate it's not the heavy Weight championship just the borough road bash between the fans I'll smuggle you into the family enclosure and you won't feel out of place jumping with joy when they score as my daughter does every time anyone scores so they're used to her celebrations now.
  15. you going with your boxing gloves ready tomorrow crucial game both need the points
  16. for each extra 25k of cover I pay about an extra £250 a year and can adjust it either way with no penalties or just for a short time
  17. I do think that local papers and good location do help to build your local presence but one thing I think that may of been overlooked in this survey is the fact that 30% said they hadn't used a search engine at all so the question I'd like answering is where do these 30% look when buying a car or do they not look at all and have seen a boosted advert on facebook and responded to the seed that the dealer has sown? Al keep up the good work and remember if you look after the dealers they will look after you.
  18. I have one policy for buildings, liability, family and friends, staff, stock, test drives etc 100k stock £250 excess £2800 a year
  19. premier insurance in windsford ask for john France his number is 01606 863400 used him for 10 years now never had a problem, handles loads of dealers policy's and he's one of the few who works both with and for the dealer
  20. I suspect that by offering it for free they thought they would make their revenue from selling lots of inspection's and warranty's etc but didn't bank on us dealers having loyalty to some of our existing suppliers. I was talking about this the other day and we wondered how long it will take for wbac to be replaced by wwac or m4ym as the preferred vehicle valuation partner on the rac website? My monies on 3 weeks max
  21. how many of you think that the price that we have to pay for stock is playing a big part in it combined with the attractive pcp deals that are around?
  22. Have you still ditched autotrader?
  23. playing fairly means that paying all taxes when due, the law states that as soon as your turnover reaches £83000 in a financial year then by law you must register for vat, seeing as your turnover last year was by your admission just over £120k then 120000 - 83000 = 37000 so if this 37000 was gross profit between your purchase and sales price excluding refurbishment costs then your vat due on this amount would be 6166.66 so you need to register for vat and pay all sums due, then next year if your turnover falls below the threshold then you can deregister for vat. By making yourself a limited company it will not stop Hmrc investigating and seizing your personal assets as the offence was committed whilst you were a sole trader. Take my advice and seek the advice of a qualified accountant as a Vat investigation is one of the scariest things you can go through even if you've done nothing wrong. Can't answer the corporation tax one question as my accountant looks after all that but for every 1000 difference between your purchase price and sales price excluding auction buyers fees and refurbishment your vat liability is £166.66
  24. sounds to me like you've not been playing fairly and now you've got squeaky bum time. Best get advice from a good accountant
