  1. You can see how auction houses are heading away from physical auctions? Apart from all the other advantages for them with online only, you can’t bid and run away!

    Mr Bob

Sounds like mr Bob has felt every inch?
  3. I suppose you should be grateful even for that?
  4. I’ve always been under the impression that most eu countries have an equivalent to ours as far as ‘car tax’ and MOT. I’m pretty certain France have their own car tax or as they call it ‘Florette’. Germany, Italy, Spain etc would be idiots to miss out on a “nice little earner” too. The big question is how they would deal with you at the roadside?
  5. Hold on, I reserve judgement. What boat licence, there are many? lol
  6. Unrealistic expectations? I reckon only a handful of cars are actually genuine private sales. Majority are shady trade guys selling old shitters usually pictured still on the back of their recovery trucks? There is an art in writing an ad that is neither private nor trade at the same time?
  7. Interesting about the comments of what people expect buying a car for £1000. There’s a FB group for cars for sale under £500. The wanted ads on there are hilarious?
  8. How do you think the public see the motor trade as a whole? And what do you think influences their preconceptions?
  9. Don’t forget many cars had perfectly good bearings changed for no reason due to the general furore. The ims bearing issue has helped a lot of independent Porsche specialists put their kids through college?
  10. The used car trade has always been depicted as a bunch of Arthur Daley type crooks. Like I said, show me a car dealer on tv that is shown in a positive light? It’s nothing new, it’s always been that way. But it doesn’t help build buyer confidence?
  11. Of course you’re not. But look at how we are perceived by the public on TV?
  12. As I just said above, most people are force fed the notion that car dealers are all villains? Perpetuated everywhere they look.
  13. Show me a reputable car dealer represented anywhere on TV. You only have to watch a few episodes of watchdog, rogue traders or can’t pay we’ll take it away to get how we are perceived? Sadly, that will never change! Even giving cars away for free won’t help?
  14. **Sigh** IMS is mostly scare mongering from the aftermarket. In reality only the very early first generation cars were affected; Porsche upgraded the bearing themselves. Of those that have had the bearing replaced only a small percentage actually needed to. The ‘magic’ ims bearing replacement is in itself not without risks? If you really want to buy an old car and feel the need to spend a couple of grand on a pre emptive strike, save it for a clutch or new brakes.
  15. True, but a Porsche is only good one thing. And any 20yr old performance car makes you wince when you approach the Rev limit?
  16. This. Ragging around in a 20yr old Porsche is like a grenade with the pin pulled out? The poor old thing will probably end its days on an ‘over optimistic’ track day!
  17. Bread & butter cars or something special?
  18. To be fair, it doesn’t actually say how much the vehicle was advertised for. It says they put a chunk down as a deposit via PayPal and took the remaining £9k in cash?
  19. Ask yourself why they would even want to be rated? Bad dealers have much to loose, good ones have little or nothing to gain? Can you imagine BCA/manheim trying to do the same? The trouble with ALL auctions is the lack of honest descriptions. The game is resisting doing it at all costs!
  20. Yeah, you might want to reread my post? vendor = seller buyer = buyer
