Would Kia not be quite safe with their 7year/100,000 mile transferable warranty? Just thought, might be good if we can collate a particular reason why to avoid certain cars? Would be quite as a knowledge base.

Dave2302 387 Posted October 27, 2020 We earned a small fortune outta Powershits back in the day, which was around 14 years ago now, then I sold up and moved up here. IDK if the modern ones are the same crappy idea these days
Martin F 15 Posted December 22, 2020 (edited) Interesting video based on this exact subject. Although like a lot of these surveys I wonder if it is weighted against volumes sold. Edited December 22, 2020 by Martin F

Only thing I'd disagree with is the Astra 1.9 diesel, especially in the Van range, solid engines, never had an issue with them and we shift them with no problem. Yep, it was strange statement from such an experienced motor trader. I'm bit cautious when it comes to 1.3 or 1.7 vauxhall diesels but 1.9 is solid unit. Nevillec 11 Posted December 23, 2020 If you are buying vans I would avoid the earlier Renault Trafic, Vivaro, same van..... had lots hassle with these, to the point of I don't stock them any more
David Ayers 171 Posted December 24, 2020 (edited) Vauxhall 1.9 150Bhp you have to watch out for the swirl flaps. Vauxhall 1.3 cdti give turbo problems. Both Fiat units I believe. 1.7 diesel in my experience is bulletproof On 12/23/2020 at 3:41 PM, Kes said: Yep, it was strange statement from such an experienced motor trader. Halfpenny 114 Posted December 24, 2020 The Vaux 1.3 and 1.9 are GM-FIAT co-design from when the companies were supposedly merging. Also used by Suzuki and the 1.3 appeared in the Ford Ka. The earlier ones (10-15 years old) did have some problems - we replaced a few 1.3 head gaskets. Later ones 2009-on seem pretty solid. The 1.7's are an Isuzu engine, made in Poland, and pretty good in my experience. Honda also put this engine in the Civic.
Kes 7 Posted December 26, 2020 1.3 diesel is misconception itself.

You see plenty of them on the road. How are the later ones? Anything specific to be aware of?

The earlier traffics and vivaros from 53-06 used a Renault Laguna 1.9 engine were actually ok but from 06-13 they used a 2.0 which was bad for injector and timing chain issues. the newer 15/16 plates don’t seem that bad tbh, certainly no worse than a transit
