You are just starting a business. Literally just getting off the ground. I don't think its a good time to do it. Its all about sacrifice and long game. I work 7 days a week still, I rarely take time off and don't have time for holidays. Im not missing out on them by not going I am building a strong future for myself. Mindset might be different than others.

What business is someone going to start and instantly going to be making a lot of money? Really basic starting a business stuff is it not. A lot more sense to find your feet trading from home rather than signing up for a 3 year lease. Keep costs down. Sacrifice, live lean, live tight, struggle a bit, fail, make mistakes, learn from mistakes, learn what works, start to make a go of it and then enjoy and start to see rewards down the line. That may be 3/4/5 years of struggle and graft though. Good luck.

I very rarely if ever actually ask for a contribution. The amount of whinging that generates is just not for me. 2 ways you can go with this sort of thing and for us we have pretty much decided to operate at the higher end of the scale with aftercare and just cover the issues. I leave enough in the cars to do this and manage our own warranty fund to enable it elsewhere. The amount I have spent on fixing sudden faults on well prepped cars is far far lower than the profit I make off the back of the goodwill whether that be in word of mouth feedback, reviews, facebook raving fans. No brainer for us. For an easier life my advice to you. Swtich to self funded warranties using external admin company. If you actually want to discuss this you can ring me or message me and I will tell you how much money it saved my business and how much we have managed to re invest directly due to this one decision. Our rep from the warranty company is an absolute top guy and a very good motor trade contact to have also.

I like the right PX's. I like all PX's at the right money. This lad wanted £3.5 k for his trade in. I wanted to give £2200. He came back and I got the car at £2200.

Proper day that good work. Really quiet yesterday had about 5 customers on site all day. Sold one and then one of the be backs actually called back and decided to go ahead with my car after we had ended negotiations miles apart on his PX. He must have been to a few more garages and been offered around the same as I offered him and I know the car he looked at of ours would have been nicer than any others out there.

I would probably look to invest a little bit in developing your sales skills. Some great books and online advice. Invest in yourself. You don't come from a sales background or have much sales experience from reading and thats what will really help. For what its worth a softly softly sales approach from a chap who knows these cars better than the punters, and the type that buy your stock a lot of them know what they are buying, will go a very long way. Keep up your good work and hope things continue.

Kinross are fine bought loads out of there and one of the most helpful and decent auction centres in the UK in my experience. A lot of time for the good staff there.

8pm? I thought you said you worked late Just joking - Good work you are on a flyer. Steady stuff here, no records being broken.

We had a mechanic like that for a short while - was never his fault.

Well spotted.

Seems to be quite a bit of arguing type posts on here of late with some really childish stuff going on. I like this board, I have learned loads, contributed and helped lots of others wanting nothing in return and actually made some good contacts who I have met off the board , or speak to regularly who I would class as friends. Some people consider the motor trade stressful and its really nice to be able to chat and keep it light hearted with other dealers and share the highs and lows or ask for advice. Lets keep it friendly.

Its not. It really is not at all and its this stance which is making things worse for all of us. CRA is something we all need to understand and get our heads around. Don't be scared of it. They can spout it all they want having been on citizens advices website and then don' some google research on honest johns forum but the long and short of it. I sell used cars, I prep them well. Really, really well. I service them. I offer a 3 month/3000mile warranty and I don't cover tyres bulbs and breakpads during that time. I am pretty much covering everything else. If you choose not to extend the warranty and have a problem after 5 or 6 months having covered 2000/3000+ miles over and above the period I warranted the car for then by all means I am sorry to hear that however it really is not my fault and I am not responsible. I would not get involved, I would not collect it and I would not inspect it. It is a used car and something has just gone wrong, possibly a known model issue, possibly just one of those things that comes with owning a car. Learn the CRA, learn it some more and fully understand it.

If you can sell any of my cars from my website for more than they are advertised for and deal with any comeback on them you are welcome to do so. Not only can you keep the price difference between my advertised price and the price you sell the car for I will give you £100 for each car also.

Have Amazon failed at any marketplace they have tried to enter?

They all squirm when confronted. I had a horrible lady leave us a dreadful review over a Mini she purchased from us. It had a minor issue it got sorted, she left happy and smiling and then went all out leaving horrible feedback that was actually untrue. She called us a 'bunch of scambags' I wrote to her and bluffed if she did not remove the review and cease the behaviour I would be taking her to court with no further warning. Review was removed and nothing further heard out of her. We also had some idiot a few months ago who had enquired via email about a car and then turned up to view it an wanted to test drive despite saying he was not going to buy it and was not ready to buy. I declined to test drive it, he went away and the next day left a 1 star review. No comments, no words no nothing. I emailed him politely and suggested if he was unhappy with anything he could have spoken to me directly yet he denied all knowledge of it, said it must be a mistake, said it must have been his wife but ultimately it was removed straight away. Really pathetic weasel behaviour. I would leave a bad review for a business if I genuinely had bad service but not just because I did not get my own way. Just make sure you bulk it up with good ones although it is hard actually getting customers to write positively about our businesses.

I know its cheap but as long as it lasts me 12 months with no problems at all or me having to spend any money on it at all I will be happy.

Maybe that worked as it is all sorted now. At least whilst that was down we ended up being busy

Can't do driveaway or HPI check any cars absolutely flat out at the mo with loads of PX's trying to use autotrader to guess them lol. Arghh
