  1. I guessing that cars rebuilt after being written off in Poland are not recorded as such? Probably explains why so much salvage goes there from uk to 'rinse' the paperwork?
  2. Personally, i dont know how guys are making the money to make it worthwhile. I have a Polish guy at the end of my road rebuilding salvage in his front garden. He only deals in BMW/mercedes/audi. And from what i can gather only sells to his own Polish community who seem to covet 10yr old german stuff? And probably dont fully understand what having a recorded car means until they come to sell it. Let's be honest, its the guys that are bent making tons of cash selling write offs. Always has been?
  3. There are cheaper sources than copart for salvage. In my opinion the prices of raw salvage has increased since the 'copart' thing, to the point where you'd be better off buying a shabby straight car from the block anyway. Where there is potential is from buying damaged straight cars from the block. Not only are the privates/amatuers put off but they're often an easy fix with the help of ebay. More and more people choosing to leave bodywork rather than involve insurance if the car still gets them to work, and just take the hit at PX time. Plus even at the block you can better judge pre accident condition clutches/engines etc The best days for rebuilding salvage ended in the '80s
  4. They do tick a lot of boxes, and they always sell. And for the bottom end buyers they can fix them on the cheap too. Round my way they're mostly bought by gypo mums and weekend cabbies.
  5. I think they like the idea of something they can fill with dubious chinese tuning crap off ebay!
  6. Zafiras are ok down this way. Ticks all the boxes as a seven seat/van/weekend minicab! I must havd spent hours and hours repairing door wiring looms in those things over the years. Helped me improve my soldering skills! :-)
  7. It does appear that DA has changed from a professional, honest way for one business to sell to another business, to the 'bought it how you saw it' business model of the average car auction.
  8. That's very true, and considering I'm 'smoking' this car, that dead person could be me!
  9. Yeah, strange? Must have been a Bentley owner from 'up north'
  10. So, annoyingly I have acquired a dented rim from a pot hole. Can it be repaired? It's still holding air and isn't cracked. I'm tempted to give it a whack but my tyre guy said stay away!
  11. Sounds like some cheapskate has phoned every dent guy in the UK to get the cheapest quote!
  12. I'm far from being an expert on these things but doesn't CAT S require fresh MOT before the V5 is re-issued? Why not extend that to all write offs regardless, can't see how it would hurt. Especially bearing in mind the amount of guys that are doing the whole youtube "Copart rebuild" thing. And from what I've seen there are varying levels of competency; some guys should be banned from owning a set of spanner!
  13. Oh, right. As simple as that. I'm surprised it works. I have a Delphi scanner, I never thought to try plugging it in to a 'billy basic' OBD2 connector?
  14. Interesting, just out of interest, what interface would you use to connect the delphi software lappy to the vehicle?
  15. I agree with you. German cars are not my cup of tea, but plenty still want to 'buy in' to that dream?
  16. Wow, that's a gift! Who wouldn't want A3 for the price of a Focus?
  17. Just out of interest, is that the 1litre "fast & furious" edition?
  18. Its an interesting position. If you'd seen the guy messing with your car then you may have been able to take some private action against him? I'm not sure, but i'm sure there are some experts on here. I suppose the grey area is that technically, is it still 'their' car until youve paid for it? So from driving out of the auction hall until youve paid for it, it's in a sort of no mans land?
  19. So, auction staff were messing with the 'electricals' after you'd won it?
  20. Personally, I don't think that 'electric' cars will merely replace fossil fuel vehicles, but the way we use and look at cars as personal transport in the future will change?
  21. Yeah, I know it. It's not the worst colour. Shame it's not vision blue?
  22. Yeah, the new drivers really like them. But there are huge numbers for sale and people can afford to be picky, what colour is it?
  23. I disagree, the solution is the optimum strategy!
