  1. I'm confused, it is too early. It's an 09 which I bought in 2012 (3 years old) - 6 years ago = it is 9 years old now. Just re-read what I wrote and if I had a coffee, I would be shopping for a new lap top right now, I am still laughing at your comment.
  2. Question for Dave (you know our multi dealer level diagnostic, ex transmission firm owner and forum colleague) I bought my old man a 3 year old Disco 3 about 6 years ago and I have just agreed to take it off him in PX and I am going to keep it (once I get the French plates off). It's a 58 plate 2.7TDV6 HSE with 70k, brand new turbo fitted by LR in France at 5,000 Euros (yes that's right). He is frustrated with the re-registration process and the RFL when he does such few miles (he's now moved back to UK), it needs 1 EGR (I am going to do both) and a new battery, I will also be fitting a new TB and WP as an age related precaution (unless this would have been changed when they did the Turbo, haven't seen the invoice yet?) along with a thorough service. The gearbox on these I understand to be "sealed for life," is that true or as part of a major recon (just because prevention is better than cure), would you (Dave or anyone else with mechanical knowledge) change or leave - car drives mint (just has EML relating to one of the two EGR's)? Absolutely no idea why this post has gone here, should have been a hijack of Simon's Viano thread
  3. I take credit, debit, cheque (must clear), cash, bank transfer and soon enough...finance. I am prepared to take the risk on any of the above re: claw back.
  4. £60 per hour is your charge out rate, not your cost rate. I don’t think you can (in effect) charge what is consequential losses to yourself, plus there will not be any tangible evidence that you could have been earning retail money for those two hours. Just my opinion and I know it is somewhat out of principal, I would be forgetting about it and moving on.
  5. There's a difference or I am not making myself clear. If someone wants my help, I'm happy to assist them (not pay) Tax, Register and Insure their new car (it's part of my job and the margin covers my 30 mins of assistance). If someone wants to drive off into the sunset having paid me - I am equally happy with that. For clarity; if they want my help - they get it, if they don't - they don't
  6. I have the Autel Maxi Pro and it is good for EML fault reading and easy to use. Gives me a little bit of gravitas when booking car in for recon, when really I am pretty hopeless mechanically. I believe, a bit like painting (as in artist), you need a high level of natural ability/interest/enthusiasm - you can't simply learn it. Proud of myself this week, I changed a N/S/R light cluster on a V70 mk3 - presumed a few bolts inside access panel....No, bumper off job but did it......thanks YouTube
  7. In Hertfordshire, I reckon a unit to hold a dozen cars will be atleast 5 x the cost of this storage, that's a big jump. The unit needs to be the ultimate goal but this storage "thing" is a far better way than parking cars around various streets - just logistically. Your advert will need to read something like "all vehicles are kept in a secure off-site storage facility and therfore all viewings are on an appointment only basis, please ring to arrange." You will hopefully find things much easier to manage - simply drive to the storage, swap trade plates and drive home in the car being viewed. Then either get a lift back (if it sells) or reverse the process. The two month notice offer after six months is not here or there as you liability is still 8 months and if you are still managing at 8 months, you can easily do 12 (does that make sense) Good luck.
  8. I think they are probably the ultimate super mini car to look at (budget wise). I have only bought one, in white S spec and it sat around forever and ever - I keep being tempted because they look better than most jelly mould cars, then I remember and take a sanity check.
  9. Before I advertise properly? https://www.imperial-marques.co.uk/cars/iveco/daily/35s11/220552/
  10. Can't wait for an update on this customer care policy There, a bit of abuse for you. I once rang for some feedback to be left, ended up costing me a radiator and coolant (Warrantywise declined and the owner took it on the chin, so I ended up paying, she didn't ask, I offered to be fair). Exactly what I was trying to say but you made it clearer.
  11. I would be in there by now, not considering it.
  12. I always find expired car parking tickets, annoyingly deep between the windscreen and dashboard. I have just pulled out 2 off BCA magnetic damage rulers, they're now stuck to my office cupboard.
  13. Agree with all of that. I wouldn't even mention the EML unless it comes on whilst they are there. I would simply say, "the car is booked in for PDI on Friday and I will call you to arrange a suitable collection date." At this stage, I would get the fault fixed or refund the deposit if not viable. Mention the EML and you'll scare them off over something and nothing possibly.
  14. Don't get too excited, 39,000 of those views are me and I'm full of useless information
  15. I would be fairer than that and mop up this Toyota and Mr C's Beemer for £4,000 for the two - save me an auction run. Send me the postcodes for Movex
  16. I am sorry to learn that you have issues with the car you have recently purchased from us. We always strive to offer reliable cars regardless of cost; This said, given the retalively low value of your vehicle, it is uneconomical for us to perform a repair. Fortunately, we are reputable dealer and as such we have made an offer to refund the vehicle in full and without any deduction for usage, the only requirement on you being that the vehicle needs to be returned to us within 24 hours with any original documentation, keys and should be in the same physical condition as when you collected the car. If we do not hear from you, we shall presume that you are happy to keep the car with all of the faults present and that our offer will expire on 7th November at 10.00 am. (24 hours after receiving letter/email). RECORDED DELIVERY
  17. This Worst case you'll end up with a ton of scrap but an over expectant customer out of your life.
  18. Are you my real Father? That is more or less word for word what I wrote the other day - so needless to say, I agree with it all.
  19. Don’t count your chickens and do what AD says - buy small Japanese stuff if you’re adamant about doing small stuff. Stratergising to sell small cars to first time drivers is a very brave move and you’re welcome to it.
  20. My only advice and this stems from early noughties, when I first got burned. Don’t buy Vauxhall - shit cars and even worse punters IMO. I did fold and saw a low mileage white/black roof Corsa and took a punt - 6 days later it broke. I have had two rejections this year - Vauxhall Meriva - twice.
  21. Given the choice, I would never drive a manual again. Someone said to me when I was 18 (in a new classic Range Rover) - once you've driven an auto, you'll never go back. That was 27 years ago and that person was spot on and other than for the purposes of this trade, I have never wanted an "own use" car with a clutch (except my Transit).
  22. I was always told you "drive" a BMW, whereas in a Merc, you're "driven."
