  1. I'm not much of a football fan anymore, but there's a big disparity between the teams at the top and the teams at the bottom. Some over perform for the size of the club and budget and some under perform (I had to suffer watching The Bournemouth Everton game on telly with a mate on Sunday). Rory has staff, works v hard and has some heavy bits and is def up the league table & deservedly so for his effort, risk and exposure to get where he is. I've always had the cars MOT'd, serviced and Pdi'd once they've sold, because- well this is the way it's always been over the years. I realise that things change and you need to adapt or die, so I've learnt many lessons over the past year or too, from the likes of Rory and others on here, including that I maybe need to have them 'ready to go' due to todays 'I want it now' society.
  2. Two Saturday - nothing yesterday. Anyone else getting an unusual amount of finance proposals that subsequently blow the computer up everywhere? Even the sub-prime channels are constantly saying no..
  3. TV - I'd forgotten about this! My old man and the other old days traders used to use beer mats. As the colour of an in date tax disc changed (for anybody reading that doesn't know: this is how the police would be able to look out for and spot un-taxed vehicles in the old days) then they would produce a like coloured beer mat swiped from various pubs...
  4. Hi Big Dom. I think you need to take some action to live up to your screen name. Look big, pay, then trade it or sell it on for a small loss if you have to-or better still, put all your energy into preparing and advertising it and make a profit - even maybe getting a decent swapper in you may not have otherwise had. A win, win from a lose. What car is it btw? If you’ve bought 50 cars, then getting the odd one wrong shouldn’t bother you. We all make mistakes intentional or not I guess you’ve otherwise got to ask yourself if you can live without a BCA account. Although ‘suspension’ doesn’t mean ‘expulsion’ no?
  5. I bought a late ish 208 out of boredom the other day from Manheim. Low miles and ownership, good history. Left a ‘bid not to buy’ by proxy on it and a few other cars. Was amazed later when the email comes through as was well behind book What I didn’t notice was the ‘multiple unrecorded damage’ bit (as it was in a run of other cars I’d been looking at all grade 3 and above) It only had a couple of photos. I clearly confused it with one of the other cars or, more likely, was just not paying attention Anyway-It only needs about 800 quids worth of paint, EML sorting (bound to be the chain). All wheels doing and the clutch is high. What a div. oh well, serves me right :o)
  6. Ha. Good one S.T! You're so right. When we moved house the other month, I quickly looked through some old photo albums (not sure Millenials will know what they are ;0) from when I was VW mad. Countless MK1 and 2 Gti's, Split and Bay Window campers (used to cut these up/break them for the front axels etc), Beetle's. As you say 205 Gti's -giving nothing for the 1.6 ones and not a lot for the 1.9's. In there were also pics of my parent's numerous Granada Ghia Coupes, Capris, early Audis and BMWs etc. Hindsight is wonderful thing.....TV, will have similar stories of even older cars :0)
  7. Regulars on here will maybe be surprised with my answer here, but: As much as I hate the robbing bastards and haven’t advertised with them for years now (I may not have mentioned that before), I don’t think you can scientifically put this slump down to their latest new pathetic reinvention of the wheel. As Earunder says, it’s funny and jittery out there at the moment. You need a longer sample size to compare. I know what you mean though, and it’s the quiet months where that AT bill hurt -I don’t miss it myself, and plod on nicely enough without them, but anyone doing big numbers seems to be on it. Or at least, that’s the impression I get.
  8. I’m guessing here and I’m sure he’s joking- but: All Punters are Bastards? He’s right though (not about all punters) and it’s pretty much the advice I offered earlier in the post. Reply, record/document everything...
  9. I hate text and agree with BHM. Real men call. Or send a letter or email if you have to. Text complaints are from liars and morons mostly. In this instance I would have repeatedly called the penis after each text. If they don't answer- leave a voicemail asking them to call you. I would have followed that up with an email (or letter if no email). Record everything. As has been said, ensure each punter signs the Pdi and handover paperwork (making sure it is comprehensive). They sign to say they understand the comebacks/warranty procedure also and have a copy. Return to base repair and the right to inspect always. I have occasionally paid the punter's garage if I'm satisfied they're not trying it on, but only out of the area. As for the free advice - I guess that's what we're here for (within reason) and as the topic is very relevant to all, I think we can feel OK about replying no?
  10. Same here the last 7 days, with nothing sold so far (without the Autoraper bill of course) after a reasonable August considering. Two demos booked today so here’s hoping... Good luck everybody!
  11. I wouldn't be able to tell you if Walsall is better or worse than Bromsgrove. Is it near Birmingham? Anything further than Ringwood is 'up north' to me ;0) It's all about how you present yourself and the car in the ads/website/pictures/reviews etc. I'm sure there's good places and bad places in every area. Concentrate on the presentation and don't worry about the location. If you're within 20/30/50 miles of the punter (whatever they deem to be acceptable) you'll be fine.
  12. She's about in the secret room. Or is she....
  13. Speaking of on the missing list -Where's AD? (and Dave 12334567789202..)
  14. Eric Cantona Seagul ramble, so only read if v bored: I’m not that old (47), but I have always liked the music of Bob Dylan. I wasn’t around for when he defected to electric (my dad was there -so he always said), but, I’ve always liked his recordings and so on over the last 40 odd years. Last year, my Mrs bought us tickets to his show at The Bournemouth International Centre near us. They were an extortionate price, but I thought, oh well, it’s Dylan. Will be a good show and he's the man.... Anyway, the day comes and it’s packed outside etc. He’s obviously raking it in still! Never mind the queues and the extortionate prices for the drinks in a plastic cup and the bottles with no lids:It’s Dylan. Worth the money and you get what you pay for... Anyway, after the first opening bars (musical) I realise I’m a sheep and been duped. It’s utter crap and tuneless noise. Never mind that I can’t recognise the song that I think he said was blowing in the wind. Must be a new jazzed up better ‘all bells and whistles’ version that I’m not getting. Maybe the next song will be better. It wasn't. Utter taking the piss, over complicated drivel. He was literally laughing all the way to the bank without a care to us, the audience. Almost as if WE actually weren’t his customers or he at least didn’t give a damn. We were not near the front in the ‘even more pricey’ seats. The people that were there seemed oblivious to it and were clapping and going along with it. They would clearly pay double and not moan or wake up From a bit of a distance, everyone else, it was clear, had realised also the emperor wasn’t wearing any clothes. It’s all I could do to sit through it. As we left, a busker outside was singing early Dylan stuff. It was brilliant. I gave him a couple of quid, as did others.... Of course this is my side of the story. The people in the front row singing, will disagree and say it was worth the money and more, as he is ‘the best’. One of us is wrong of course. It might be me....
  15. I have 40 odd in stock. I do zero running around unless I’m v bored as I soon realised you can easily by the proverbial busy fool years ago! Valeters collect, and we always leave a dumper at the MOT station that doesn’t collect (the other one does collect). Same with the paint shop -they collect and deliver. We have three or four garages etc who deal direct with any screamers & the courtesy car is left permanently at one of them. I have one PT Polish site cleaner and two PT sales/Sunday/weekend guys plus another as needed old chap who fills in the gaps. You can’t do it on your own and you’re better off concentrating on the buying and organising & all the virtual business/answering the phone and emails.
  16. Only 10 so far, but some nice deals and a couple of heavy stickers gone, so ticking over. Have had the same issue with finance props. Mentioned it a few months ago. Sign of the times I guess? I’ve not needed to buy for a while luckily, as was holding enough and didn’t feel the inclination. Started to look again last week tentatively and prices seem more reasonable, but we’ll see.
  17. Maybe somebody else can fill in the blanks...
  18. A week or two? I’m doing something wrong. Or you’re talking bollocks.
  19. I too can't see how it can possibly be your problem (except he may be uninsured and cost you) - I mean as in you did not give him permission (implied or otherwise) to drive it. It surely must be a taking vehicle without consent deal as mentioned. Anyway, what do I know. Would be interesting to hear @Tangovictor32 's take. HIm being an ex-copper and all.
  20. Motonovo do it for free as well - good company and the local rep- Jemma is excellent. Only thing against MN for me is their clawbacks (although it's only happened to me a couple of times over the years) I'll text you her number if you want.
  21. Like TV ever goes to a supermarket! I go once or twice a year (her birthday and valentines day for flowers) I'm not allowed to go with her, as I'm really annoying apparently- pointing out that 'we don't need half the stuff she's buying'. She now gets it delivered. Same here- also true when getting fuel. Shortening your life by worrying about saving fifty quid over your lifetime isn't for me. Either that or I'm lazy.
  22. We rarely show the punter the log book. Nor do they ask to see it. It's not proof of ownership and, as above, just throw in six months tax and go do it at a post office and apply for a new log book at the same time. As Umesh would say hashtaghappycustomer. Agreed.
