It’s funny how we all do things differently. I don’t allow a purchase without a test drive. I tell them I want them to drive the car to confirm it’s suitable for them - they won’t be bringing it back on a whim here! Some people want 10 miles, some want 100yds - I’m happy either way. The vast majority I accompany but if it’s a couple (as in man & wife), there’s no b/s and they know the area I’ll give them the keys because they can do their ‘family car buying chit-chat’ in the car & by the time they return 10 minutes later they know whether or not they’re buying - they usually do - I think a seller who is confident enough in the car to tell them it’s fine & to go out on their own automatically instills confidence. I don’t let younger punters out on their own. Neither do I allow father/offspring punters out unaccompanied or £999 p/x punters because they end up being out 40 minutes doing about 30 miles & performing inspections in lay-bys. Also ‘expert’ fathers who know it all about cars & cheapie punters often need their expectations firmly managed & because they are naturally suspicious people the slightest thing can be blown out of all proportion.

Where do these cnuts come from?

What a bellend.

Funnily enough I had a phone call today from a punter considering visiting but he’s “a distance away”. He lives 5 miles away & considers me almost too far to travel. I’ve sold an £800 car to a man who travelled 350 miles on the bus for it - 700 miles in one day for an old shitter. I’ve sold cars abroad. I’ve occasionally sold a car that looks expensive locally if it’s slightly ’oddball’. There’s no set way of selling - every person & every deal is different.

Apart from a discount... what incentives do you feel work

Hahaha, FFS, quote of the month! -
A bit of both tbh. Human nature dictates many want something cheap, however many then get lazy & can’t be bothered to travel. Tbh though, it’s always surprised me that people will travel half a day for a cheap car but many will.

Register of Encumbered Vehicles check worth the money??

Ronney, are you smoking a crack pipe? -
Of no interest to me whatsoever. I can beat that (You’ve got one itchy arsehole so I’ve got two ). The Mrs’s Honda auto, almost 3 years & added almost 30K miles, made £200 (admittedly that’s not factoring in 3 oil changes + discs & pads). The downside was I recently paid over a grand into book for her replacement. The funny thing is she got the car because I couldn’t sell it originally even after advertising it at cost! And even stranger still is a few cars before that the same happened with her Corolla auto - originally I couldn’t sell it but a few years later there was a scrummage for it.

WTF!?!!! Sounds like a nut job to me.

Similar happened to a friend a couple of weeks ago. From what I’ve seen on my Mrs’s facebook about 80%+ of private sellers are anything but. I think they’re the same cnuts emailing me on a a slightly scruff £999 p/x Astra with full MOT. Horrible idiots wanting to email back & forth all day long and attempt to rape me with stupid offers. I know this sounds uncharitable but some of these greedy twats deserve all they get.

The Party is so in touch with reality it’s now got Jo Swinson at the helm. I guess the Lib Dems decided they don’t want to return to power anytime soon.

+1 ...and imagine what the real percentages would be if all of those who emigrated for work had to return to their original countries. Greece’s youth unemployment is something like 40%! Poland only has about 6% unemployment but there’s a skills shortage due to emigration & they’re now attracting in various old Eastern Bloc workers & shipping in Indians - like the UK, Indian takeaway may eventually become Poland’s favourite food

At the lower end of the market some punters have had a belly full of ‘cheap’ old diesels because they’ve been caught out with a big bill & ultimately ended up out of pocket when they’ve had to dispose of said car to the knacker’s yard. That said, the Astra/Focus market take petrol or diesel but the Mondeo/Passat market still seems to want diesel. As for bigger cars/SUVs etc. it’s diesel as always for the time being. As for chancing buying/selling old hybrids here up north, any customer who has ever mentioned them in discussion seem to have the attitude of ‘who the fuck wants the complication and the potential bills’ and tbh I agree with them. However I think fully electric cars will be viewed far more positively than hybrids when they hit the cheaper end of the market.

It’d be great if it wasn’t for arsehole punters.

Very well screwed together with very few issues. All tried & tested technology with few surprises and drive absolutely spot on. I know the German badge snobs ignorantly sneer at them (most of these people are incapable of forming their own thoughts independently of their peers) and I’m of the age that remembers when cheaper new cars were fucking shit (Yugo Zastava anyone?) so have an underlining suspicion BUT these really are very good cars and quite rightly have an excellent reputation.

I believe the best (least problematic) engine in Mercedes-Benz’s range happens to be of French design and often bolted into cars of a Romany persuasion.

Are there any messages scrolling across the screen? Is this a regular issue? I see plenty at the block with the fans doing an impression of a Jumbo Jet and usually with an Emissions fault message scrolling across the screen. Tbh anytime I detect any issue with these ‘delightful’ newer 1.6 petrols I run for the hills.

It’s not f***ing rocket science, is it?

Laugh? I nearly fell off my chair. It’s good to see your council catching up with fine upstanding members of the community by the names of Sunita Begum, Jodhsingh Jandoo, Masuma Lona and......and..... wait for it.......Iqbal Hakima Khan! Good old Iqbal! He gets everywhere, doesn’t he!?!!

......unless the DPF is full, a mega expensive electronic injector buggers up, manifold swirl flaps get jammed etc. etc. then you’ll soon find that there’s more to running costs than what goes in the tank and a few quid on road tax. Of course, this is assuming the lad from Sheffield is still looking 9 months later!
