Every Day is a School Day! - Honda Civic Mk8
David Horgan replied to D&M's topic in General Dealer Chat
Write to all the other customers now and admit your a silly boy , bet they thought what the f### is he on about when your wobbling on about the floor missing Took some owning upto though I'll give you 10/10 for that -
Hi 100k of other peoples money would be my concern £3,000 a month for just the rent needs to be thought of as nearly double that , More advertising More costs of prep VAT element if your not already More petrol costs Then repayment of costs of the money people invested . May well be a clear case of working extra to pay other people . work your figures out very well , be honest with yourself , if your going to work harder the rewards should be higher for you .

Whole V5 , even our UK MOT is useless to him as it will need an Irish version of the MOT . V5 is all that's required for Southern Ireland , we do a few a year into there and never been asked for a Conformity cert , all info he needs is on the V5 Tell him to tax it for a month if he wants to drive it away though
-
That's me almost every bloody time
-
Might be double sided tape , if its what we use as tape you will need a hand grenade to remove it .
-
Tax it , put it your name , wait for new V5 to arrive back , put plate on retention , assign the car with original plate , wait for new V5 to arrive , put car back in trade Simples

Bit like a restaurant meal out isn't it when they open up ,Sat In a Plastic tent or behind a screen then served by somebody who you don't if they washed their hands serving you in a mask they've had on all week, probably paying for it up front by bank transfer , then asked to leave asap when you put your fork down . Not for me sorry . Feel sorry for them I really do , But not my idea of fun
-
Very True . people getting worried about 3ft or 6ft as to if your get the virus is daft really , turn away , not face to face , wash your hands , Test drives are still contentious in my mind , I'm getting away without test drives quite nicely . people understand . ONE Metre still doesn't let you take test drives out does it . Suppose you both mask up , gloves on , but do we really need too . With you on the new drivers and first cars , sooner the better , but we have sold the first timers cars so they can keep practising driving till they can take a test ,

Talking Finance One garage i came across has changed name , took 50 k Bounce loan on two garages , so 100k, changed name and is adamant its not going to get clawed back . how these people sleep is astonishing Regards being in debt to some of the above figure is eye watering , Not my way . Young guy over the road where i live in 300k house , two range rovers on lease his and hers , both white . two kids about 12 /14 , now redundant due to the virus mess and is for sale with cars gone , one old £2,000 Mondeo on the drive , how life can change overnight . I might put an offer on the house as they have spent huge money on it recently .

Plus you lost the sale too , major incompetence at VW Dealer .

Charging admin fees for selective customers is not a good idea with trading standards or the FCA . Need to think of a charge for ZUTO but they do ask you or record if YOU charge admin so they can invoice that to the customer , Dodgy ground in my view selecting who you charge . like the idea of not charging IF customer takes finance with the trader as I'm sure that's dodgy really under some rule or another .

Part ex car, and owner wants to go back
David Horgan replied to Catalyst Auto's topic in General Dealer Chat
Nothing wrong with a profit and that's what to say to them . No BS , i have to make a profit because the tax man expects me too , or it looks dodgy . car retails at 5 k and with the prep , new wing , and a small profit to show the tax / VAT man its got to be £4,795 and that's doing you a huge favour because that leaves me £150 profit for the handling , you cant begrudge me a drink surely . Its all in the way you explain the the deal and not the number at the end . -
Took our council 24 hrs to pay the money to us . 19 th March to now is a touch slow I would think .
-
If you had said that up front i might have turned the page over Takes all sorts , some one has to like the Meriva don't they . Long as you had the profit then Meriva's are super little cars aren't they
-
Well done , I mentioned Tesco etc cos i thought she had tried her bank . long as you sold it that's all that matters
-
You don't need insurance now as its not yours , cancel yours NOW You don't need a NEW MOT , just a Valid one that's in date as its transferable . Your friend , new keeper needs to get a New V5 by filling in the V62 and posting it to DVLA swansea , then wait for it to come back 2 to 6 weeks , at that point he can tax it . Simples but he has to wait , will cost £25 too to DVLA

Not Many Finance companies do the older people sector really . two that do older props require you to be FCA approved . Tell them to try a personal loan from Sainsbury or Tesco , one or two get a loan from them and its not connected to you or the car . All online and pretty quick too

Warranty or no warranty, that is the question!
David Horgan replied to JobDone's topic in General Dealer Chat
Beware of the 7 day return , not all customers are sweet and lightness , true and honest . I have seen with my eyes this service abused so many times in the past . Yes it does install confidence and that's clear why , but that needs to be an honest customer . I've seen a customers take a car that's offered with 7 day return because they had the same model at home with problems , swap parts within seven days and bring it back with obvious issues for a refund . The trader didn't find out for a while and it cost into a £1,000 + to put right again , He never proved it either and wasn't shy of trying . Take a car for 6 days to do a long trip and return it with issues , heard of that scam . There will be some more instances I'm sure , not something i would offer in this sweet honest world . -
We had our local environmental officer yesterday posting leaflets through our letter boxes on how to open safety This woman was touching all the letter boxes door handles , stepping inside everywhere when the doors were open on the estate from what i saw , I was outside washing the doors , windows and funnily enough letter boxes . She comes over to us so i ask , " whats the leaflet for in a sharp tone ? How to open next week she said , Then told me she's an environmental health and safety officer but doubled up as a leaflet delivery person today because its important to get the rules out in the area . So i asked her what training she had because you've touched every letter box and door on the estate , stepped into my workshop where it says NO ENTRY , and are presently standing way to close to me , you have not got gloves on , cant see and form of hand sanitiser or wipes and your like a bee round a honey pot to every building on the road . I suppose on the leaflet it tells me to enforce 2 Metre rule , wash my hands , put up signs , put screens up on my desk , use the appointment only system where i can , be careful and don't touch things doesn't it , don't take cash , and make sure i have a routine to clean car interiors She says yes it does cover some of those points , So why then in gods name WHY haven't you read it then i asks , told her to collect her leaflets and take them away with her . Then had to wash the doors again .

Warranty or no warranty, that is the question!
David Horgan replied to JobDone's topic in General Dealer Chat
Customers expect some form of warranty for sure , its a question they will ask you every time . Depends on the approach to warranty and how its explained , NO One covers wear and tear on a used car So you need to explain that warranty covers a LIST of parts that fail . But all this really does depend on how good you are at mechanical prep before you sell it . We all have to admit that when someone sells a used car and we buy it to resell there is going to be a problem of some sorts to fix before we sell it . So our rule is here , FIX it before its sold , we don't get warranty claims then . Life at that point is easier . Self administered is the way to go from a cost point of view and it helps you remain in control , but you have to know how to handle the situation when or if it arises . A third party warranty will say no to just about everything and then the call comes back to you anyway , Hard choices though because unless you have a workshop its expensive all way round . Golden 3 secrets , PREP PREP PREP before sale -
That's very true indeed isn't it , some scared to move and others going well this virus is here now so lets work round it . End of the day Plastic screens and and wipes don't control a virus and if they did we wouldn't suffer the the colds and flus we get now would we. Even when given so called permission to move comes in we have to work round the situation of keeping the public feeling happy , I have been busy getting prepared for just that and it takes some thinking about when you get into the detail . Where to show the car , when to open the door to the car , what questions you ask before unlocking cars , how to qualify someone before they sit all over your stock and you have to clean it all again . How to sell without test drives and how to explain that . contact less hand overs , paper work , pens , where they sit , card terminal pads , their licences , their debit cards , all need to be controlled and cleaned , Finance applications and e signing key pads all need to be re designed as this scare of catching Covid 19 will be with us for years not weeks wont it . Two car companies near us have gone already as the strain will be to much . can we get enough people through the door on appointment only ? Where do we buy cars from or HOW do we buy them and collect ? Test drives will have to change too , no more extensive drives sat at the side of someone for 20 mins . Lots to do in the industry before we get going again , going to be a different world .

You must be THE only private I have come across who cares . Well done to you ,

Trade plates can be used unaccompanied for test drives
David Horgan replied to James Baggott's topic in General Dealer Chat
Letting 80% of test drive out on their own will be a licence to either stop the car and remove parts , Get a mate to plug it in and potentially ruin your car , Thrash the nuts off it depending on car type , Steal the plates , Steal the Car , Get a ticket , Test drivers dream when they get to know they can take it out on their own . I've actually stopped numerous test drives only last year to take the keys and drive them back . Incompetence , breaking laws , cant bloody drive . Not for me till i rethink this through . Only have to lose ONE car and any benefits of doing the deal because you let drivers out solo is GONE
