He wants a Merc i have etc etc, I pointed out my geographical location just in case he'd been in the dimly lit shops of Amsterdam enjoying the local brew but no, he knew exactly where I was and is moving to the UK. I was sceptical of course, told him to call me Monday morning and we'd firm up arrangements. It's fair to say if Mr Mufassa of The Democratic Republic of Congo called I'd terminate the conversation tout de suite. Well he called yesterday and after a reassuring conversation that I was genuine and so was he with a few online checks on his story, a deposit has appeared in my account and he's coming to collect next Monday. It seems my arduous videos presentations have at least gained me this sale if nothing else. AD is our leader, AD is our leader, nah nah nah nah.... So, Holland. Anyone beat that? trade vet 697 Posted August 7, 2018 I recall selling one or two banger 200k plus miles Passat diesels to Poland or somewhere.They knew what they were doing.We are near the airport and there was a time when Irish punters often without notice would be waiting for you to open up having flown in early from Dublin or Belfast for £10.They used to cough up with all sorts of Irish and Jock cash and you were unsure it was real.I think there was some scam to beat import duty.They would sometimes get pulled at the airport for carrying a lot of cash so we would get a call for verification.We would say,sorry we have no idea who they are....they are Irish,they come on spec...da da da. They are from Ireland mostly, a few from Scotland but this month I had a young chap fly from Trondheim in Norway to buy a RAV4 for under £5K. He will be based here for the next year so didn't exactly fly-to-buy only. Years ago I had an elderly couple from Sweden that bought a Volvo C70 Convertible (it was worth around £3K at the time). They flew in and immediately drove off back to Sweden in mid-January. The cheapest "export" was a £500 Merc 190D 2.5 (no turbo and 0-60 "but only just") that went to a North African chap based in Brussels. D&M 66 Posted August 7, 2018 We had a call from someone in the South of France about a £1,100 MG ZR TDi with 144k on the clock. Made arrangements for him to view - yeah, like he was ever going to turn up... Bang of time, a little french registered 207 drives up - there he is! Drove the car away. Apparantly, MG/Rover's are popular over there. I think its because the LHD ones are so expensive, and a few years ago most MGR stuff was throwaway money. Seems like their all appreciating now - think it is because now, most of the survivors are the good ones. Funny enough, we also had a different guy call about an MGF from somewhere in France, said he'd call the next day to arrange to collect but never called. Can't win them all! After a 10 minute conversation, the full balance was in my account instantly. I held the car for 2 Months, then dropped it to her Chelsea hotel. One of the easiest transactions I've done. SC Derby 259 Posted August 7, 2018 Oh we've sold a few cheap estates to Africa actually but they've not flown over, normally someone done the deal for them in this country. I think they strip the cars and fill them with electronic goods then ship them over, the cars are still worth something over there and it's much cheaper than a container. Took a while to sort shipping think in all it took three months to sell as he wanted it inspecting then had to be tuned for thier low sulphur fuel, plus another 6 weeks shipping. And an evo 9 to Germany when the euro was strong, he drove it straight back. Nice profit thanks to BCA writing it up wrongly in the catalogue doesn’t happen now. Boohoo. Many a moon ago via eBay auction a Jag to a government official in Kenya. Jag taken to a haulage company in Wales as the man was filling containers with cars & heavy engineering equipment. A few years ago a mega mileage Merc E320 sport estate in black. It was about 4 years old, I couldn’t sell it here for love nor money, but eventually a punter from Germany sent an email with an offer saying he’d could be on the xxxxx flight to Leeds Bradford airport next Wednesday. He came prepared with a set of Germany no. plates, asked me to screw them on & drove off as happy as Larry. A year or two ago a shitty old Vitara bought via Dealer Auction on a whim from them shysters in Bolton. I thought they let it go cheap (I guess they’d warned off their local pet buyers) - the alternator & EMLs were removed & on opening the back doors there were no wheelarches left . Anyway, advertised on eBay as ‘scruffy, needs cosmetics & some work’ and a couple of Hungarians came as they where buying just about every old Vitara in the UK & sending them ‘back home’. Made £600 wages funnily enough on a scrap Vitara so perhaps Bolton’s finest did me a favour overall. A few years ago a Yaris to a Cypriot who drove it back - he got the plane over & then tried chipping the price. Needless to say his discount was sweet f.a. An old white Lincoln town car limo - the Italian buyers arrived in a few they’d already bought. They were driving them all to Italy. Good luck cos mine was doing about 6mpg. That’s enough for now, I've plenty more, probably because half of my stock is unpalatable to UK buyers so thankfully Johnny Foreigner has stepped up to the breach!
