  1. Well put Rory Agree with this stance, but just remember you got rights to, Firm but Fair
  2. You Bast*ard Jack That barmaid Said I was the only one for her. Gonna Drown my sorrows in Private members area with the table dancers later
  3. Focus today, and a Astra cdti with the horrid 1.3cdti engine which i normally don't go near, but this one was cheap and seemed ok so took chance. Payed off
  4. Just tell this burk that he needs to get the car to you for repair and you will fix it or bring it back to you for a refund under the terms you suggested (which is fair IMO) Balls in his court, or he can go to court which he will not do in a month of sundays. He will get that car back to you one way or another when he realises he is backed into a corner.
  5. some of the margins have been pushed so low its daft. You can sell a £13k Aclass with £800 margin in the car because car supermarket has 4 Aclasses in the lovely blue everyone wants making yours look Pricey. But then buy a clean 2007 £800 Punto that will fly out for £1995 lol Crazy
  6. am not big user of the local paper either, even though we get a very good rate. But the thing was he didn't put in the usual dealer add in but 4 private looking box adds, now he wasn't pretending to be private seller he explained to all the callers he was trader, the point is he got more interest this way than advert with abc car sales etc. Strange how the trade works
  7. We have been Discussing this in another post, There is no clear way to refund and deduct on wear and tear. I am waiting to hear from other members to see what they have done or could use as a guide. The main defence is reasonable cost, you can argue anything is reasonable lol we do need some test cases or guide going forward, so we as traders and customers know where we stand.
  8. SK to me that seems fair, but I am not sure if its legal, its justifying reasonable costs and am yet to see a clear way this is determined. Maybe look into Mat C's point about £per mile. Or speak to the legal eagles, they may charge for advice but trust me it's not worth getting tangled up with a screamer customer who is hell bent on taking you to court and back, Unless you think you have a good case. The customer even under your proposition (if it was reasonable, you need to look into this) is still going to kick off about being £500 down etc, but at least if it can be justified then there is sod all he can do. You are legally entitled to them costs, the question is How much. Let us know how you get on. I think we all need to starting getting Tough with these customers Rory does make a good point, £560 to make this go away is not bad outcome, but the question is what the customer is going to be like going forward. You just don't know and sometimes you can suspect a customer is going to give you grief for 6 months on every creak and rattle. I have in the past turned down sales when you just know a customer will give you 6 months of migraines. politely say this car is not for you am afraid, shocks them every time. SK make a decision on the best outcome, if you think he will disappear and never here from him again, then fix it. If he is going to nag you to an early grave then refund.
  9. Be surprised how many traders sell cars to brits living in Bermuda, Gibraltar and Malta. As someone who has spent a lot time in malta over the last few years, UK cars being sent over there is big business. Ironically touching on another post in the private members lounge Fiat 500s are big news over there, Only with Aircon Mind.
  10. Only other issue Sk Will have is the swapper he took in , The guy will want his car back although am sure its gone by now. Not sure How you would address this one just have to give the part ex value back I guess. SK Did you make any money on the Swapper Merc, ?? be a bonus if you did lol
  11. Yes agree with MJ, if he is going to give issue after issue just take the bullet and refund. However don't let him walk over you, Take away 7 weeks wear and tear and the extra owner on the v5, remember its your legal right to do this. you may be able to get back some of the cost that way. I would have the car collected as it's not safe to drive the customer will claim which am sure a court would agree with. The main question is how much you are allowed to deduct, anyone on here dealt with a refund under the new system, be interesting to hear voices on this ? as I just don't know 100% what you can class as reasonable costs. Could you argue that 7 weeks equivalent car hire cost be reasonable plus a deduction for added owner ?? Or would you look at last months cap / glass price and deduct the difference, I doubt this would gain much. If you can get out the of this mess with £500 deducted it would be IMO be a good result in the long term.
  12. We not mad busy but its not dead either, A pal of mine has 10 cars on a pitch with another trader and has had a bad few weeks with not interest, he placed 4 of those cars in the local rag this week with £200 off each car and dealt 3 out of the 4 since Saturday. Just shows it all about where they're placed somtimes.
  13. cheers guys like I thought. It does read that a business plan may be required even for interim permission, thats what was throwing me as I thought it was only for the full permission apps. I will just fire it over and see what comes.
  14. MC Experience is key, 100% commitment, and Money. if you have not worked in the motor trade and crucially in vehicles sales starting a used sales business could be a potential failure, its hard for the most experienced of traders never mind newbies with hardly any experience. (I say this as the questions you are asking would seem to show lack of knowledge of the sector). This forum has the answers you are looking for, carry out searches and look through the old posts a long with the link that Tom has sent you. Think long and hard about how you will run your business and be prepared for the good and the bad of being a trader. We all love going to the auctions and buying vehicles and when the deals go through, but that comes with angry customers (screamers), warranty firms that don't pay out, and bad buys that blow your wallet. Oh and Auto trader bill lol.
  15. Hi Guys Putting in for my FCA application for new Subprime site starting in the new year (fingers Crossed) My question is On the Limited permission FCA application it asks for a business plan which may be asked for but is not required to be sent with the application. Have anyone been asked for this plan ? I don't want to start putting together a plan for it not to be even asked for.

    No V5?

Agree with this, Dvla have really pulled there finger out in the last 18 months with the new vehicle mot & tax history.gov site and dealing with V5's and Cherrised plates. Last logbook I sent for took 19 days, That was around 3 months ago. What is the average reply now traders are finding ???? It would be great if DVLA could get V5's out that are lost via auction route in less than 7 days the norm
  17. Welcome to the Forum, Maybe some background to what you do in the trade, Help break the ice with users.
  18. Low price vehicles sell well on gumtree, less than 2K, dearer bits not so much Ebay works but you will get the muppet brigade bidding you £1000 off a RS Focus as they have found one 300 miles away that's cat D and lots Cheaper. Facebook is a winner for anything if you know how to use it right , Motors and ebay are never going to get you the same traffic as AT but they are miles cheaper. so pound for pound they are worth doing. What I mean is out of 10 cars on a pitch you may sell 2 from walk ons or repeat / recommended , 6 from AT and the rest by other means such as Motors or Ebay motors, facebook etc. The problem is that AT is to expensive and does not seem to be getting cheaper, even though guys on here including myself are trying not to use them so much to teach them a lesson. ( I fear it's not working with AT announcing Massive rise in profits) In my personal opinion you need to be fully in Autotrader and pay the high costs and shift motors (high numbers modest margins) or spread advertising across all the platforms which will bring the costs down massively but less sales may come of this, but from this you can see in black and white where your sales are driven from.
  19. Motors .co .uk Ebay motors, free for 2 months of pro account gum tree, yo can have 20 adds for around £180 per month, you can update every day if you like and get to the top of the page Car Gurus , free to join on basic listings Facebook, you're using, make sure you use the groups to post vehicles with good pics and description, be warned of the fools who will bid you in the balls thinking there clever,

  22. I do fit into the 20-30 demographic, Only just mind i'm 29 next month. Metcars, the government keep moving the pension age further back, I wouldn't bother thinking about retiring lol. I doubt I will ever get my hands on a state pension.
  23. Didn't see the stock bit, I thought it was just the one add. But Met Cars this makes the situation worse surely they should no better than to picture a banger like this, and £395 lol if that what crappy astras are selling for down south am moving.
