  1. http://cardealermagazine.co.uk/publish/ase-reveals-10000-average-year-year-loss-uk-motor-retailers/121005 According To This CDM Article Motor Traders Lost £6500 in July On Average. I really dont understand how they get these figures, I dont think these analysts know the first thing about the average motor trader. If had Lost £6500 in one month I would packed up and got a job at the Post Office. Now Maybe July was worse this year than last but to suggest that traders on the local pitch are losing this amount of money is fantasy. Am sure these analyst's just speak to Holdcroft and arnold clarke and think this is the motortrade.
  2. Hi Guys Looking at using Click dealer for a new site I am opening up in the coming month. Before I fill my details in and no doubt be hounded by salespeople could anyone tell me if this service is any good and the cost in having it. I would imagine its a monthly service or annul subscription. Also Can anyone tell me the benefits of it and why its worth the money. Cheers Lee
  3. No Matt But you clearly work for this business so why don't you just plug your business or take your spam elsewhere
  4. MJ How Much Do Autoguard Charge for their warranties ? A Few dealers close to me are Using them at the min, So I am guessing they are Ok. Lee
  5. RH what issues were you having with Autoprotect, I was looking to use them for long distance selling of vehicles. lee
  6. Ok so customer is prop for finance they pop down take a look around and to the best of our efforts we don't have anything that we can get them into without the presence of a sawn off. (apparently this is not legal) So my question is what to do with this hot lead, is there a portal system or broker system that would take this lead to try and place them with another dealer. I guess I could place with a local dealer friend if they had the car the punter was interested in, but any other suggestions would be helpful. Lee
  7. At this point that Purchase becomes the Weekend Smoker
  8. Any info Guys, don't tell me I am going to have to ring Experien for an answer
  9. Hi All I used to use Hpi however when we downsized the amount of checks we were doing we moved to Experian autocheck. With Hpi when a valuation was selected with a hpi check it told you cap trade and cap retail. however with experian although they have a separate valuation check saving you a check against using hpi, it doesn't tell you the Retail value. Instead I get Cap / Glass trade prices but the Retail price is blanked (not available) on every car value. Do you have to pay for this extra with Experian or do they not provide Retail pricing as that would be a little Naff to say the least
  10. Garage has been busy for two weeks, until this week began. Now it's dead. My Mot testers have cleaned up the bays this week and even fixed there own vehicles. (outrage) !!! However on the sales front my main man has sold 6 this week, with customers due in this weekend for viewings on Matiz, Swift, Corsa, Astra. On Fire !!
  11. My personal opinion I will never pay anywhere near book price for a scenic, as they are always a headache. I try and buy them £300 - £500 under the cap. I have never bought via DA, but a friend uses it and has had some success, However recently he nearly bought a misdescribed car that had been placed on DA by Vauxhall Dealer. bad paint, electric fault. Glad to hear you avoided a right parcel.
  12. Hi JKG They have a set rate card, they will put you on Intermediate rate, Am sure the big buyers can get a further discount. At the min its 500-800 £140 800-1500- £160 1500- 2500 £200 £2500-£5000 £250 this is all in with Vat, so Cheaper than BCA by some way unless yo are a black or plat holder. Be warned though they take ages to set up an account, so make sure you keep on at them, as 4-5 weeks is the norm. Silly Really
  13. I think you are paying to much for the cars. You need to try other auctions and i Would have 2 up for sale at a time. I will give you some examples of my cheap buys today at my local aston barclay 2004 Mazda 3 1,6 110K blue, some minor bubbling to archs long mot £250 (average condtion) 2007 Suzuki Swift, 118k, in red gone faded, no wheel trims, short mot. £400 (average Condition) 2006 chevy matiz, 96K, no mot, checked before hand failed on front brakes and a track rod end. (Average Condtion) £150 2007 Polo 1.4 petrol, 5 door 81K, Black (watch out for the 1.2 3 cylinder engine, suffers with burnt out valve) wants £100 paint to bumper, £980 2007 Meriva 1.4 petrol, silver, 67K, Clean Clean Car, May need a chain kit, very slight rattle, for sake of what it costs I will do it, Picked up for £640 2008 Astra Estate 1.6 Petrol, 112K, Clean Car Other than dent to tail gate, £80 fix for dent man, Short Mot, Drives Well, No alloys (Shame) But only £600 2006 Corsa C design 1.2 5 door, 82K Long Mot, Alloys been pinched but clean and will make a car £350 (corsa C market is dropping, so by cheap as you sell one these days on price, there is so many about punters can be picky. All above include buyers fee's There out there, you just need to broaded your horizons
  14. The reason I mentioned about limited company was to protect you from a something going wrong as a sole trader with such little profit in the units you are selling. There are decent motors out there in the £500-£2000 market, I am surprised You are making so little per vehicle in this band of price. The only other thing I can add is find out what's selling in the market. My personal view, Corsa D's have become cheap sub £1500 at auctions and are good sellers. Punto Grande & Panda have taken a big drop at the Auctions my way, and can be picked up very cheap. 5 Door small cars are Hot in General, 7 Seaters, Zafira's Mazda 5 is also a good vehicle I try to keep away from 1.6hdi found in peugeot / citroen and also found in ford as 1.6 tdci (buy ford 1.8 or 2.0 tdci instead) . I dont by Vauxhall 6 speed box and keep away from 1.3cdti found in fiat and vauxhall. What type of vehicles have you been trading ???? Im thinking you're paying to much or selling to short or are just not buying the right stock Lee
  15. Hi Dylan I pre warn you, You may get some negative feedback here from some members. First off the golden rule for any business to have a good chance of success is to know your trade and have experience in it. I fear you have not come from a motor trade or at least a sales background. If you dont have the experience you have an uphill struggle. If you are only making a small amount as you suggest, you need to think is this for you. You must by law stand by your vehicles for warranty, if you sell a banger and the clutch goes 1 month later, like it or not you're liable. Trust me you will be bitten and someone will take you to small claims, For the amount you are making you need to stop or radically change your game plan. For cheapies, say 300-£1k in my opinion BCA is not the way, you need a plat card to get the fee's down to the level worthwhile and most people with platinum or black card are not buying bangers. Try other local independent auctions, there fee's will be much more reasonable and alot of dealers use smaller auctions to get rid of bangers rather than use the BCA or Manhiem. Trust me on that point I used to run a Car Auction. You can try going to dealers and asking for cheapies, beware that if a dealership has cheapies on its pitch and there offering off trade sales, Ask yourself why ? Don't be afraid of vehicles that have no mot at an auction, this is common with swappers, you can now check the reg to see if its been in for mot before the auction with the gov app. These sub £1k vehicles can be very cheap as people think they are opening a can of worms. You just need do your homework on the day and make a call, Main agent vehicles thrown in are normally a better standard of car and former owner. an example, I bought from the block the other day a (Main agent Entry) 2006 Mondeo TDci Edge, very clean car, with 120K, No mot, not been tested since expired, I payed £140 in the block cost me £200 out the door. it needed a Tyre and a wiper SIV is £240 I will £1195. I also bought a 2006 Punto Grande, clean car with 92K in 5 door. Listed with a clutch fault, for £280 out the door. The thing was barely moving through the block, A clutch for this car is £48 and a you can get a mechanic (go on FB and ask about) to throw it in for £100. Lucky for me I own a garage but the point is anyone can do this if the profit margin is there. Am not sure what to suggest about your warranty position, either supply a third party warranty but you need to get your margin up first. You can just try winging it for now but it only takes one screamer to come back and no there rights and you will be in miver. a Limited company will limit your personal liabilities. Good luck Lee
  16. Sounds like your onto a winner Green Giant. Do you know when the bus will turn up though please as a fear rain will return.
  17. Great stories I started 11 years ago, 17 years old a rookie mechanic in his last year I left my job working for a caravan / motorhome business, sold my 306XTDT and with a £1000 and old wedge shape rover 216 went to the auctions. I bought 3 cars that day 1997 Rover 420 , 1995 Escort 1.3 Petrol, 1996 nissan primera 1.6LX Bought them on the Tuesday day sale, Went to the local rag paper listed them all for the friday paper and sold them all 48 hours later. More than doubled my money. If I had bought 3 sheds that day I would not be where i am today I feel. Loads of ups and downs over the years, but over the last 3 years I have gone from part time sales from home and working as a mot tester to running my own garage and small sales pitch. But now looking to go into the big time. I enjoy the trade, and love going to the auctions and other dealers, some great people.
  18. If you're not interested in giving out the big afterpacks you get from guard and supagard. I sell the supaguard but buy from ebay, the box which includes the sealant sponges and scotchguard is about £15 where the after pack is 65-100 from the agent.
  19. cheers guys How much does click dealer cost ?
  20. Hi All So who uses Click dealer, I am looking at the software going forward for my new sub prime venture, what does it costs and is it worth the money. Is it useful for the Vat margin scheme and helping in general with vat and invoicing. Lee
  21. I came back from holiday recently and found myself in the same mind frame, No brain power and not on the ball and eager to press on. You think a holiday , relaxing, time to think, will help on your return to raise up a Gear. Not always Great to hear that you're breaking sales records
  22. Personally I Think either option is a disaster. What we needed was a brake on the freedom of movement of people or a permit system on freedom of labour, Cameron was beaten down by the german chancellor. what we should of had was a renegotiation that would kill the immigration woes, And they are genuine concerns which I also share on immigration, but he failed to achieve this. However looking at it from a business point of view, 1. More immigration and movement means the potential for more who need vehicles. 2. If we do vote out, it will cause issues with financial services within the single market including firms who will pull out of lending. Remember firms such as Deutsche Bank invest big sums of money into uk based lenders for motor finance. Do not think that nothing will change if we leave the Eu for the motor trade, there will be repercussions. Maybe we can get a good deal out of the eu, maybe we can become a nimple country and have it both ways with the rest of the world while trading with Europe, But this is a big IF, A Gamble. The question is Do we take that Gamble ?
  23. Many thanks James So To clarify, I should be able to register for my license in my current premises and then when i find the right place to move up, I can just change the premises location part on the portal system.
  24. thanks guys, 17 days is very fast I was thinking more like months. Did you do the application yourselves or did you get an agent or company to assist. Form does look a little complex
