Consumer Rights Act 2015 is destroying my business
Rory RSC replied to John13's topic in General Dealer Chat
Andy it does not matter about Lawgistics - If you fight the finance companies they just won't deal with you is the background on it. Very frustrating. Finance companies are a bit of a joke tbf with this sort of stuff. I have just been through something similar with a finance company. We have had to issue a full refund on a car we categorically proved faults were not present at point of sale due to a car's tracking not being right and a minor blow to exhaust.. Cause - Once car got returned? A spring had broken and an exhaust clamp had completely broken off. Simple facts it did not leave my place like that. With the records and paperwork we keep we would have walked any court case but like pointed out above finance companies are judge, jury and executioner in these things. -
I'd rather deal with a complaint than watch that again

Bit of a blow with the new sub prime pitch, bad timing Betginge.

eBay works for us. Definitely reach more customers that way and it is pretty cheap. Yesterday was quite a good day with some good chunky cars selling. VXracing, 2010 A3, 2013 A3, 2012 A5 and a 2010 Focus RS.

Your own fund.

The copy and paste section was something I saved to favourite from pistonheads a few years back. Makes perfect sense once you get going.you need that right network around you and to have everything in place regardless of how many cars you deal with otherwise you never get anywhere.

That is my number one trade secret I can't give it all away. I will take some pics of my ivory tower - Its falling apart here every time it rains

All this doom and gloom was around 3-4 years ago when I first started. A lot of traders actively discouraged me. In that time I literally started with nothing and now hold 40-50 cars in stock, selling on average around 40 a month. Being totally honest I work very hard, have next to no social life, don't take holiday or days off so 7 days a week working but I have managed to build a very strong reputation and a knack for buying desirable stock which sells promptly. It can be done. If you want any help PM me. An understanding girlfriend Rent of a yard Autotrader bill Ebay motors bill Motors bill Cargurus Trade insurance trade plates Buisness insurance staff or someone to run around at the least 2 x mot stations to use 2 x paint shops to use 2 x auto electricians to use 2x repair garages to use A diesel specialist a good scrap yard your friendly with Merchant services Your own transporter CCTV Equipment Overflow space - as someone said for me to have cars ready to retail i need another few getting prepped and others sitting in hand over zone i also have a dead zone for cars i want to forget about haha ) FCA / Credit consumers license for finance trade acounts with bca, manheim, local etc A good accountant. a good selection of tools A snap on booster pack, nothing else cuts it for me. Still end up going wrong with a customer even if you have done 500 miles in the thing, in my experience.

I think the key thing to do is make sure you explain any defects - explain no warranty - explain car being sold below market value ie others are at 3k yours is 1500 it is that price for a reason - include the wording car is not fully safety checked so you advise any buyer to make their own pre purchase checks and whilst car starts, runs and drives you advise that they should trailer car away until they are satisfied it is safe etc. I have not had any issues, you do possibly open yourself up to them but you are most likely going to be dealing with a trader if its cheap enough. Be selective with who you sell to.

For what its worth every time I send a car to auction I never get anywhere near what its worth. Appreciate maybe you don't want the liability of selling something like this. I would write the most honest advert with clear pictures and advertise as a trade sale with no warranty px clearance car. 2 options ebay auction or an autotrader advert. Most high mileage Audis like this I have sold within 24 hours with zero prep to ukranian/eastern europeans who export them. No messing around, dead simple they are hunting for them and 160k is barely worn in for them I have done this on a few cars and had zero issues I have just been brutally honest and explained it is not my type of retail stock. at 2k you phone will not stop ringing be prepared.

Its working just tried a test post. Probably no ones bothered posting on it - I have pretty much given up there is just no point on there at all. Time for the good guys and other dealers no time for the AT crew.

You have the right contacts and background to make this work. Website with about me and making a lot of noise about the company you have worked for will certainly provide a lot of confidence. I think the lightweight special type cars will be a good shout for what its worth. Again hardest part of job will be stock, but lets face it its hard to find good stock regardless of what sort of cars you are trying to offer.

Someone I know who sells very, very high end cars gets a lot of his own stock offered back to him by these 'broker types'

I took one in as a part ex and far from being a soft roader chucked a high lift kit / snorkel and off road tyres on it and had hours of off roading fun in the thing. Surprisingly capable. Must get out in again.

Having a right kick off at the moment with a customer, same car and same engine due to an EGR issue. Useless engines.

Never happens on mine always go through for weeks with no bids lol

WTF?

30 for the month - cant buy them back in quick enough. Doing better with the newer more expensive stuff that I have more profit in. The cheaper stock I have which has been sat for a while and reduced back is still sat growing roots. Not that much finance coming through, couple of reps calling in trying to drum up business.

Loads of auction stock has finance flags on it, particularly when its in from a finance company. Cashflow I guess, shift it on at auction before the customers settlement due date and settle it that way rather than tying up money in in / adding it to their stocking plan.

Swings and roundabouts - When you sell 3/4/5+ and have a great day you can't beat the buzz. Saturday / Sunday just another day like any other to bring the money in.

Anyone experienced head unit problems with the Mazda 6 - I have 2 in at the moment both with all the lights and buttons working for stereo but no noise/volume will play. Ordered a replacement genuine head unit (2nd hand) and still not working. I don't want to just start throwing money and parts at them so wondered if anyone else had experienced similar.
