  1. Thank you for the reply Rory, this is what I wanted to hear, I appreciate its not an easy job, if it was everyone would be doing it! How ever sometimes it comes across as such doom and gloom that it amazes me that we have any traders!
  2. Thank you for the replies, there is mention that a lot of times you are making very little margin, is this the case for everyone?
  3. Thank you for your reply. I am trying to get an idea if some money can be made, it's hard because if you look at a lot of posts on this board it seems all doom and gloom, and it's the worst possible job out there, but surely that cannot be everyone's experience!
  4. Hi Thank you for your replies. Sorry my message was a bit vague. Making a good living, I meant is it possible to make a reasonable income selling cars part time. I fully appreciate that there is no such thing as part time in this trade, but to me it will not be my main source of income. I would be hoping to sell a couple of cars a month, and had the idea of making an extra £6000 a year. I will not be the type of trader that gives traders a bad name, if I am to do this it would be done properly, no sold as seen etc.
  5. Good evening all! I read many dealers reporting how difficult it is to make a good living in the motor trade nowadays. However there are normally two sides to a story, so out of interest, who is making a good living out of selling cars? I would be interested to hear if there are any part time home traders who manage to make a reasonable profit, or is this just not possible anymore?
  6. Good evening all! I am due to start up trading part time whilst working full time. Now this may be an odd one but I cannot decide if it is worthwhile setting myself up as a sole trader or a limited company?! I would really appreciate your thoughts on this. thank you in advance.
  7. I would not be allowed to purchase pxs from work to then sell on and make profit on, I would want to keep it completely separate from work! If I had a dip in performance it would be questioned whether the selling I am doing out side of work is the cause!
  8. I have not personally been inspired by TV programmes! I have been a car sales exec for a main dealer for nearly three years, and I really love the trade. How ever I have always fancied working for myself and selling cars seems the obvious way to do this!
  9. Good afternoon! I hope you are all having a busy weekend selling, wish I could say the same! I am looking to start selling a few cars from home next year maybe only doing a couple a month. For the time being I would like it to be an additional income to my full time job, how ever my long term ambition would be to do this full time if all goes well. I fully appreciate this can be a difficult job to make a good living in, but it is something I would like to try. My question is what do I need to do to start up. I would need trade motor trade insurance, liability insurance as well? Trade plates I realize you may need to get permission from you local council to sell from home. Warranty cover Join an online dealer auction etc Any tips or advise from home traders or people who started trading from home would be really appreciated. Thank you and I look forward to
