Been a good week but most are wanting a plate transfer so it holds up the money coming in to buy some more.

Non retail cars .... They go on gumtree, they are mot'd and road legal and sold with a warranty. VAT and home traders, well if your not going to hit the VAT threshold then why would you want to go through the pain in becoming VAT registered. i've collected a couple of cars this last week and most of them have given up on trade to retail and become trade to trade. So far I've only come across one person pretending to be private but actually being a trader. I didn't buy it and walked away. as for me and my background, I started off with a mechanical apprenticeship then 6 years mechanical engineering followed by a move into purchasing with an engineering company, then staying in purchasing but moving to a charity and managing the warehouse and returns as well as the fleet. i love cars, always have and for the last 9 months I've been working in the car trade, be that cleaning, selling, paperwork, viewing and collecting across the uk to painting and decorating our new lockup. There are two of us and even though it's not my business I treat it exactly as if it was. So for me never being in the trade it helps reading about and being able to ask questions and receiving helpful advice from others that have grown up in the trade.

Who is responsible for returning a car? Buyer or Dealer?
Steve92 replied to Phil's topic in General Dealer Chat
If it's a known fault Or it is ecu fail it from water ingress I would guess it's fairly easy for the buyer to prove it was faulty at the time of purchase. The BMW Z4 suffers a similar problem where the drain holes become blocked and the roof motor sits in water and dies. http://www.copenworld.com/community/threads/roof-wont-open.878/ http://www.copenworld.com/community/threads/epic-roof-problems.2516/ -
Never driven one, I would guess the service intervals are 2 years or around 20k, I know on the last c63 Amg we had there was also a fluid change for the gearbox. It's an a (minor) b (major) service. merc customer services are not very helpful in giving out the service history, they want your inside leg measurement. At least the car should have some manufactures warranty. I'd be wanting to see the roof go up and down and that it has Oem tyres with the mo rating.

We physically taxed it for 12 months on my own credit card, it was a one off payment. I'm tempted to call the card company and stop the payment but not sure if that's a good idea.
-
If you tax a car for a customer from the new keeper reference and then things change, can you get a refund on the tax in any way ? If so how do you go about it. Thanks steve

Having run a fleet of Ford Focus I would never ever touch the 1.6tdci, that would also include the psa versions. I wouldn't run a 1.5dci either, vag 1.9 I would and the early hdi I would, how about an early 306 hdi, my mate has run one put near on 40k on it in 2 years and other than consumables and a wheel bearing and drive belt it owes him nothing. We paid £650 for it and it's still worth £500-£600.

Northern Ireland already have 4 year mot's, the biggest issue is out of most of the cars we see at some point there is an advisory for tyres being close to the limit and that's on relatively new cars too.

330i cabriolet, 1st call after being listed on at within 10 mins, sold first thing the next day.

done, but I'm not sure what the aim of the survey is. Have you looked on speak ev ? The main issue is range, it needs to average 150 miles comfortably for me to consider given the range drops significantly in cold weather, the other issue is charging infrastructure.

Corsa, c2 and c4 are manual boxes with auto shift, some of the fiestas are the same, some are torque converter boxes. Dsg has issues with the mechatronic unit, personally I wouldn't buy an old one. I hated my a3 dsg, it was a horrid car.
-
How do you find the fiesta, is it still the manual with auto shift or is it a proper torque converter box ? none today, a few enquiries including one call 10 minutes after we listed it on auto trader. Also broke someone's heart who owed 11.8k on a car valued at 9k.

Using the above as an example, let's say a customer buys a car it gets taxed and then on collection day they back out. So you haven't set the v5 out. What would you normally do ? I guess You could then fill out the v61 or complete the keeper change online but would the tax still stand ? After all if it's taxed and the v5 gets lost in the post how would this differ ?

Out out of interest how do you find December as a month, last year in mail order sale (like the 12 previous years) we found December busy but only because it was a shorter month. Do you find enquiries dry up around the 22/23 or o people buy right up until 6pm on xmas eve ? Do you find it generally quite from the 24th until the 2/3rd January ?

2 more today

1 today.

And there is me considering an a class auto ..... Mot shows it's had a cv joint recently. Gearbox is a know issue and ecu testing can repair them. This is month was quiet, it picked up half way through though. Let's see what December brings.

Ministers lose £80m in revenue after scrapping car tax discs
Steve92 replied to sparky's topic in General Dealer Chat
The buggers fined me £40 for failing to tax my corsa when I didn't have the v5 to it ... Funnily enough the fine was issued 2 days after I had taxed it. It was never used on the road as it was poorly. -
15 miles .... Bloody hell, I did 620 last week to deliver and collect a car. Shame on you for not paying top money on a 150k clio. Everyone seems to want something free, last week someone wanted 3k over book on their car and 3.5k off the one they were interested in.
-
if the car didn't show on the mid or wasn't taxed then in order to minimise the chances of being picked up you would need to ensure the trade plates covered rage number plate. You would need to make sure the trade plates on on the mid. As for the location of anpr cameras I'm not so sure. You do see some cars with plates in the window, some taped on, some in rubber hangers. i guess you need to do what you feel comfortable with. The dvla do seem to be about more and more, you would have thought with the changes to the dvla that you could just register them and move cars without the use of trade plates. Oh and if it had no mot then it should not be driven unless you are on the way to an mot station. Trade plates are for road tax nothing more.
-
Dash for me and if possible jammed in the rear window, although if the car shows as taxed and insured sometimes I leave them in the car. Some don't seem to bother at all.
-
Just watch out for the scratch cards, everyone's a winner.

Can it not be taxed online using the new keeper document number and then just change the new keeper online when you know who it is
