  1. No easy solution , to be fair the local Honda dealer helped us out a few months ago 'master key' free of charge removed the locking bolt and we but a new set. The Renault dealer not so friendly ..8 attempts to speak to him /left messages that never got returned ,I Asked the customer to drive to them on spec and see if they could help , he waited am hour ..they removed the lockers charged £20 ! I put on my invoices where the locking wheel bolt is in the car and show them at hand over point .. also reconfirming that its there, Do NOT Take it out of the car and keep it safe, leave it safe in the car its unique to their car. ....
  2. I buy a lot from the public, I always go with gut feeling - if it doesnt sit right regardless of price -I Walk away ! Can't beat that ' GUT FEELING' ! You've taken all the precautions with your suspicions ! As said I too have refused to buy or refused to take Part Exchanges , some customers do get shocked but why get into soothing which is going to be an issue/headache , this job is challenging enough at times !
  3. Maybe a bit conversational but here goes ! I have no problem in everyone knowing who i am , name, dealer etc etc .. I just feel sometimes I see various posts and would be good to know more about the person/dealer/area /stock profile etc etc to give me better understanding about that dealer , I click on the name - , when it goes to profile nothing more ! So i'm none the wiser about who that person is or about their business ! If the full details were on there I'm sure we could possibly help each other more as we would understand each others businesses more , not only that but if I'd sold a car in a certain area had an issue with the car one of the trusted fellow dealers could help out - visa versa ! Just a thought ? what do YOU all think? umesh
  4. Happened to m ea few times , I take the deposit ONLY on the basis he's buying it unless I've not described it properly ( But willing to give deposit back in full if its down to me) - Odd times it the deal doesnt go through I refund , call the next customer and tell them the truth the deal didn't happen because you couldn't' agree a deal with the 1st lead / or px issue etc etc.. usually the 2nd one buys ! Just tell the 1st guy the truth you have 2 others who want to buy the car but because he asked 1st you're going to be fair but don't want to be messed - most genuine buyers understand and go with it.... If you don't take a deposit but they all know there are interested parties they may feel that they may miss out so will will continue looking and when it does arrive and you call them - you've lost them all as they've bought elsewhere? - just a thought !
  5. You bought it with the information given ' full service history' you only bought it because of that other wise you would not have bought it ?? Very simple goods NOT as described ..Maybe a call to Lagistics , but cannot see how they can not claim responsibility ,other wise its open to all sorts of abuse!
  6. Full money back from DA , 'Mis-sold' ' simple as that regardless of ' sold in good faith ' They are acting as the agent so its their responsibility.

  9. As Matt Says €15000 Legally. .. Had one a few years ago who wanted to pay £16000 cash on a merc , I explained I couldn't take that - only £9000 , he went on say you can take €15000 , so he knew , i told him my business rules £9000 rest has to be debit card / transfer ONLY! Very, very long story .2 hours later and me refusing to sell the car he goes away telling me I must be an idiot not wanting to sell the car ( Should we say traveller type community!) .. rings up next day , saturday to see if I'd changed my mind, told him it's how I do business - He says I'll bring a draft for half ! Said that'e fine but be here well before 11.30.. Why ??? I said I need to verify with the issuing bank ! He says " you really do not want to sell this car do you ? " I yet again explained that's how I do business ! Arrived with the cash and his sons - bizarrely he and his 2 sons all had same name , paid by debit card , the 'young' lad looked about 12 who entered the pin number and signed the invoice ! Asks for the 'complete V5' Told him I can't do that I have to inform DVLA ... said to me " I'm in the trade' ! I said provide me with your full traders policy etc etc , but as far as I was concerned I would inform DVLA . When I bought the car ( Not my usual purchase but the company I bought usual directors car has their managers car for sale so obliged to buy it 3 year old E320 With 130,000m- You would never ever know it had done the miles !- ) And I know what would happen to this car ( Answers on a post code ) ... ..fast forward about 6 years ... A trader calls me from Leicester ( Hope not anyone on here ) .. " I have a car here you supplied can you confirm history / Mileage etc) Give me reg Number , I asked the mileage .. 139,000 miles ! I said where's the history , none with the car , I said that car had the best history in the world , all the invoices etc etc , Told him I had sold it 6 years ago with 130,000 - He said I think you have the wrong car mate ! I said no , I know the car and I knew this would happen one day , asks me who I sold it to , ( Data-protection can't divulge ) so I said tell me who's on the V5 and I'll say yes or no , Last owner I don't know the one previous was the guy I'd sold it to . Trader says I've sold it on retail but customer not picked it up yet ! Told him he got problems he needs to contact the customer , he wasn't too keen - so he says if anyone else rings what would I tell them - I said I have to tell the truth simple as that .. Parting words .. " I'd better take your number plates and stickers off then " ... Sorry I digressed a little !!
  10. Money Laundering Issues Do not do it !! All as per Mat C ! Tell him to bank it then transfer to you , otherwise walk away , its gonna come back to bite you.
  11. Was but got this monster instead ! Think you'll do well retailing it .. Ithink good margin in for you ! small 4x4 not many about ! Sorry it won't let me post the image ...keeps telling me image too big ! V8 3.9 Offroader - just trying to sort brakes out for 1st fun run this weekend ! wish me luck ....
  12. As GG Says as long as you have clearance letter , and it should literally take minutes had similar issue a few weeks back and it was done in minutes off HPI.
  13. That is exactly what I do ! Top Marks to you .. Tax the car on line as you say - do the new V5 on line in his name - he'll get that back with in 2/3 Days , then put the plate on line - he doesn't even have to visit you - do it over the phone if he gives you new V5 number and numbers off his retention form ! #simples #quick #easy If taking it off the car -put new v5 in his name - leave old V5 intact in his name ( Do not put into trade ) - again when new V5 arrives as as long as both V5 are same post code do it on line Note: If the car you're selling him has not been taxed for 3 months or over then it won't always let you transfer the plate , you'll need to send all documents to DVLA , but to be fair they come back within days! Hope it helps and I'l explained it clearly !

WOW ! What a fantastic effort from everyone ! Following some of the antics via twitter when I can .. It looked a lotta, lotta fun ! Well done to everyone - Thanks for the smiles and looking forward to seeing a record amount being raised for a great cause ! #Ben Well done to Car Dealer Mag for organising another truly successful event !
  16. Unfortunately its just a fact of life , if it has then not much that be done - it doesnt really put me off buying a car with a speedo change as long as its documented correctly - not had one for a long long while ! Did have a strange situation about 18 months looking at a Bentley , customer told me it was only 18,000 miles , her late husband's car, went to see her checking all the paper work -' speedo changed' old speedo 38000 miles - when I showed the lady this information she didn't have a clue , her friend who 'seemed' to know it all said well its not an issue is it ..??? No issue but its no longer as desirable and value's are different ! wouldn't have it so walked away from it. It was all stamped up properly by the Bentley dealer in the service book and a letter confirming the changes.
  17. Should still say if its 'sorn' /taxed/not etc .. seems weird to me .. https://vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/
  18. So what about Autotrade-Mail valuation as that is based using Glass's and their own data of vehicle sold , which in this case is way out ? but how can it be way out if that's what they are allegedly selling for ? or is that not enough data is available to give accurate valuations of the market for that car ? Its all baffling and allegedly I'm supposed to know as I'm in the trade .. no wonder so many customers are saying it so many times " I've seen these cars advertised and don't know why there is a difference of £3000/4000 between dealers " ! I've agreed to buy the car - it's here next week Retail as I see it to start £14999 ( Can't post what I've paid as its too much an open forum ! )
  19. Interesting about white cars.. back in early 80..to 90 ..If I saw a White it was usually a Vauxhall with the private number plates of ' JCB..' All their cars except the CEO were white cars.. in years to come they changed to silver due to residual value .. amazing how the times change !
  20. I Try not to get too involved in delivery - long distance sale , But recently had couple of requests on ' older cars' which I declined without hesitation , but in reality even the later ones I simply say "sorry I have a showroom and cannot leave it unattended all collections from my premises ! " ... Genuine buyers all turn up.
  21. Valuations Sure this topic has been brought up previously and no doubt it will be raised again BMW 1 Series SE Auto 3dr- £4040 factory options 21800 miles 2013/13. White / Black leather with £4040 factory options We all use various valuation tools , so I try to check its value on Autotrade-mail £14819 Glass's guide £14200 ( Strange as when Glass's DM and checked it came back at £13530) Cap Clean £12100 ( £11500 Average ) Now before I reveal what I THINK the market value is for this car I'd love to get your opinions ( Needs 2 wheel rufurbs thats all ) . What's Trade & Retail IF you were buying this for stock. Join in - don't be shy :).. After all no one is right or wrong - just look at the difference in opinions , or is it data ?
  22. I Think as Tom says , need the customer to have the car for some time to make sure they are fully happy before asking , on the spot I feel is too much pressure ! I have a customer feedback form they post back , plus asking them to review on www.carbuyingadvisor.co.uk , some do it on there some on facebook but the form prompts them ! Reviews sell cars ! Give me a shout if you need any further help Rory.
  23. Could have been worse ! When i 1st Started - local - very successful businessman asks me to find him a Fiat Punto Diesel - Must be -FLAT RED - ..After a couple of days I find one in Aylesbury tells him all about it - " Yes , please get it for me !" he tells me... I drive down to Aylesbury - pick this little gem up only couple of years old , call him to say " I HAVE YOUR CAR READY HERE " .. Come and looks at it , .." Sorry wrong 'shade' of red , I don't want it " !!! I explained that was the ONLY FLAT red they did .. He didn't have it ! On wards & Upwards .. he came in a few years later asking me find a Passat Estate - I Couldn't help him !
