  1. I'm not so sure about that. For those type of jobs I don't think you can beat hot water, chemical, elbow grease and suction. That said, I am toying with the idea of getting a full hit steam cleaner like an optima. I'm going to have a demo of one next month as soon as a lovely part ex treasure comes in.
  2. Always worth another look
  3. Last year I was looking at some old auction invoices from a similar era. Best make those tissues man size!
  4. O Yes mate. Got a customer for it and he's not bothered as all sees is a saving of 4k. I doubt he will tell the neighbours.
  5. On copart I'd stay away from anything that's isn't there for obvious reasons like accident damage or stolen recovered with no keys etc. I buy the odd one and last week bought a 2014 top spec Kuga with no keys for half book so very much a case of you pays your money and take your chances. I also put a few in and if they drive on the transporter that classes as being good enough to be sold as run and drive, not quite surecheck but not far off you might say
  6. And a lot less hassle as well I would imagine. I've been working on a couple of bolt on businesses for the last year so when the quiet times do come there is still some income coming in to take the pressure off. Agree with stockedup!, it's all about the overheads, or rather lack of them.
  7. Seconded. As I've said before, things on here need to tweaked. I'd start with nobody being able to start a new thread without a certain number of posts under their belt.
  8. Amazing how you can change your opinion of someone in just one sentence
  9. Dare I say it, that sounds reasonable.
  10. And me. Anything powered by a french unit will do me nicely. Amazing isn't it, put the Auris through on a Tuesday with a Bristol Street sticker on it and suddenly it's worth 2k.
  11. And more sheep. Sheep sell cars...
  12. Assuming I've read that right and your issue is with the breakers, personally I'd just write if off as they are clearly doing what cowboy breakers do and are taking you for a ride, probably have been from day one. More chance of Usain Bolt signing for Wrexham than you getting anything back of them, I can just picture their set up now. Go to a decent breaker (there are a few around and I'm happy to suggest a few that I think could help with this although those engines do command good money) and then get the thing back on the road and then never, ever, ever even think about buying one of those ever again, and if you do, it's 10 minutes on the naughty step. Beware of the guard dog?
  13. Indeed. It's becoming a bit of a theme on here, before you know it we'll have plastic surgeons and barristers wanting a piece of whatever cake is left. Or you could take some time out to smell the roses. FWIW, the suggestion about salvage stuff seems pretty sensible to me.
  14. Aye; BIG cars and caralot, two darlings of the used motoring media spring to mind. 3 in my area in the last 12 months have gone, the common denominator being stocking plans and overheads sprilliling out of control, aka greed and vanity. Personally I'd rather have the models of a few of the lads on here, although I appreciate they are not sexy enough for some.
  15. A few weeks ago I thought I saw some light at the end of the tunnel with regards to buying. I'm now back to banging my head against a wall, even the prices in Scotland are off the charts. Sadly, like you say, it's only going to get worse. Jesus, can you imagine what January will be like? With that in mind, unless something changes dramatically I'm going to write January off. Sack off AT for the month, two weeks of housekeeping prepping for Feb and then if I can get the right deal, two weeks in Barbados taking in the cricket while most of the trade blows their brains out in the hall.
  16. That's my recollection as well. There may have been, but I can't recall the likes of Partner Finance and NextGear being so popular back then. Three in my patch over the last two years have 'lived the dream' with such funding and are now living life in non league. Can't say I've lost a moment's sleep over any of them.
  17. I'm pretty sure Tradex has a pitch, which is a different ball game to those that do appointment only. The man might come down and waste Tradex's time on the Clio, but it will also give Tradex an 'opportunity to sell' as my old boss used to say on something else, and that's what a pitch is all about, putting up with tyre kickers and turning them into buyers. It's a bit old fashioned but thankfully it still works
  18. Agreed. But we mustn't forget the basic fundamentals of the job. Sadly like most things in life the art in KIS seems to be lost. I know I sound like an old man (honestly I'm not), but the subjects of 'digital marketing' and going off thread 'sports science' (don't get me started on that) really gets on my tits sometimes. And yes, I have got out on the wrong side of bed
  19. Video, pictures, description blah blah blah. Yes, they are all bits of armoury that help the job but the meat in the sandwich is still the car, then price and location and anything else is just bizz IMO. This week a Pathfinder flew out with only one picture. On the hand I could get Steven Spielberg to do some photos and video of a Nissan Juke and Stephen Fry could write the description, it would not make it a better spec, make it a nicer colour and therefore give it more ad views because it's overpriced and as dull as dishwater.
