  1. agreed! my mrs has to clip the seatbelt on the passenger seat whenever her handbag is on it...
  2. Down to brass tacks, selling 'no warranty given or implied' is always a gamble. generally the wrong punters, think its a bargain and ignore the warnings you give them. And as for selling it to someone who lives 6 hours away? I'd have told him you werent prepared to sell to him in the first place. sell locally (ish) if you want to sell problem cars unless your advert and invoice are explicitly clear as to what the car is. That way, if a problem like this arises, you can get a garage you know involved. What should you do? You may be ok in court. the judge may award against you, but I would think the customers behaviour could secure you a reduced refund (losses for failed collection attempt)
  3. Local to you is newark auctions. But dont expect a fantastic return on it. Same concerns over a car with a 'trade to trade ' tag.
  4. Entertaining as this is on a quiet december afternoon, I really do hope to have more to do in January than look at what some clown on a keyboard wants to write about 'setting up a business' seliing cars and getting a workshop
  5. Heres hoping for a great little break over Xmas and Wishing you all a propsperous 2019, I second Mark, it's nice to know that someone else is there too
  6. I'm sat here waiting for a bank transfer to show in my account which the new 'owners' parents have apparently sent at 4pm. If you could trust Joe Public you would let them drive away and see it in the account on Monday morning, but that just isnt the way it is.
  7. I wouldnt worry about an extra owner, its an old car. neither will any prospective purchaser
  8. Fingers crossed for you, lets hope some excited privateer gets bidding on it. Let us know how you get on!
  9. at least there wont be pine needles in the boot
  10. yes, change pictures, attention grabbers etc. sometimes makes a difference
  11. I'm waiting for my CCL but only 10 days so far, ready for January I hope! In the meantime, the hagglers are out, just sent someone packing who wanted a 2350 Mazda for 2k. They seem to resent me earning a living! roll on January when the real punters come out not just the chancers
  12. Its a big part of the decision for many people today - sometimes more important for them to be able to link the phone up than anything else. Going forward, check before you sell it. Dealing with this one, unless you want to buy it back I think youve got to fix it. But you will probably find a carphone specialist or auto electrician who will do it for less than VW.
  13. This can make a real difference. Just a different angle of the car or text in the 'attention grabbers' seems to fool Joe Public into thinking its not something theyve clicked on before
  14. How does a gearbox casing get smashed? Thats the first step, because the gearbox failure seems to be because oil has leaked out. You need to know if that was an issue before you sold it. I Dont think you can tell someone like this to 'do one'. But you can get the car back to you and get it properly diagnosed by your mechanics. That will cost you less and give you control. But work quickly. She has this problem to obsess about, you have other things to deal with but she will move very quickly to screw you over. Its nearly Xmas, she wont have a spare grand in the bank to fix this ( which is what a garage will tell her) and your name will be mud in no time. So tell her your plan, and if its a £350 repair to fix this, I'd suggest you act big and swallow it. (unless you can prove she damaged it)
  15. Interesting, but how accurate is the checking? I'm sure I'm not the only person who may have a car that sits on a mileage parameter who would list a car at say 60,000 miles when it has 60,500 on it (I would always list the EXACT mileage in the ad text) as I'm sure a customer would still regard it as having covered 60k. helpful for sifting out the real liars, but when its only slightly out surely they have an allowance?
  16. right spec, it will have been serviced early years because of the warranty. it should be a £30 tax disc car, so at 2k ish will sell whether it has history or not.
  17. Its all down to the customers expectations - and as long as they expect a new car for used money (which I'm sure this website will tell them will happen) I would think its not going to work. Interesting when you look at his previous experience of zoopla, surely people go and look at a house before buying? so they should encourage the same with a car. And if he raised 2.2bn from the sale of zoopla, how much of that does he have left if he wants other peoples money to scratch just 30m together?
  18. Hi Lucas. I would be free on thursday. my fee would be £995 plus VAT. I can even supply the manual car!
  19. sent the application down the line to them on wednesday - so guess thats a 2 week wait then ( unless they take a lot of time off before Xmas)
  20. A Mitsubishi Colt which I had for about 13 Months. Finally got an appointment on it, then someone walked on and bought it. Appointment wasn't happy as he had just parked up round the corner when I called him to say it was sold. Sometimes it doesnt seem to matter what you do with the price on it. I sold a Corsa last week which was just about to hit 6 months in stock, it had consistently got poor daily hits on AT, Price made no difference. Then changed the strapline to "12 month warranty", and shuffled the photos around. Sold within 4 days. I guess it made it look different to the other corsas out there. And the daily hits went from 4 to 6!
  21. Hi Mark out of interest, how long did your FCA approval take to come through? I did mine on Wednesday and it says up to 6 months but I assume thats their default answer.....
  22. ask the seller if he is VAT registered. If he is, then you have to give him the amount plus VAT. its then down to him to pay that bit of VAT to the VAT man. When you sell it, you sell it plus VAT (even if you sell it to someone who isnt VAT registered) which means that you dont calculate the VAT on the margin. you recover the VAT which you paid out, and pay the VAT on the sale amount. If he isnt VAT registered, then you treat it like you would a car, so you dont give him any VAT and you dont charge it when you sell it. Just as a precaution, I would recommend you ask him to bring evidence of VAT registration if he says he is, just a copy of one of his invoices may be helpful if you ever had to prove anything at a VAT inspection.
