  1. its £7.50 for nothing, as if you wouldnt buy a car because a couple of bulbs have blown?? Do I check them before buying a car? No. Because thats what an MOT is for which I do before it goes on sale. It's like Nick says, a few quid which doesnt stop you buying the car (but does wind you up) but makes a huge difference to them at year end.
  2. Ive just had this on a beetle, lock jammed down on handover... Ended up spending last friday fetching it (an hour each way)and getting it repaired here so it didnt fall into the hands of someone elses labour charges or a 'health check'. I put a VW part on which was £140 but there seem loads of non gen around for around £20. Anyone ever had success with those or do they break in no time? I didnt want to do it on this one because the customer isnt local
  3. Sold one of those last week too, but to a local lady. To ensure that she was able to save as much weight on it as possible it didnt have a parcel shelf in it and had approx 2 litres of fuel....
  4. I Dont think you need do any more than tell the insurance company the car was stationary (as all your stock is) at the time of the incident. If you have your own personal car then that would surely help your case - why would you be in a pitch car 2 hours from work?
  5. Everything has a price.... It may not have AC but then some people really arent bothered. On a pitch, you will have a better chance than online. I've got a base Up (take model), no ac, keep fit windows, and no central locking, just like an old escort you have to lean over and unlock every door individually. No idea how long I may have it for, but theres always someone out there who wont be bothered.
  6. Not Ltd? Then there is no transfer as you already own the cars, just with a different name on the log book. I would only think there would be any tax to pay when the cars are sold to someone who isnt you for a profit. So I would see no reason to take them out of the company name, that way any maintenance is still tax deductible?
  7. thank you for the update. And beware what you say, its a public forum, you will have said enough to identify yourself to the party involved
  8. Keep us updated. I would suggest you may want to send her a letter confirming your intention to rectify the fault. In that, you could point out that the fault was not present at sale (evidence being the service) and therefore under the rules of the CRA 2015 this is not cause for rejection but that you will happily repair. She may well then realize what is going to happen if she chooses to ignore your offer.
  9. Ive had one of these in my time. Thankfully my one went away after I explained that nothing was dangerous and the new MOT the car had on it when I sold it demonstrated that. If he is expecting you to put it right, explain that you had done an MOT on it before he had it, that the car is safe as per that standard, but if he really isnt happy and wants you to buy it back, you will. That will either result in him disappearing as he likes the car too much or disappearing because youve bought the car back. Either way, thats the end result I would want.
  10. Akhtar, you need to look at your whole business idea. To me, you sound like what most on here will term a 'plastic trader'. you are chasing easy money, but need to add value. pitches are full of astras, golfs, focuses etc. Mine is. But ive got a great local reputation, put a warranty on it, Fully Valeted it, offer finance and ive fixed it before its even marketed. And its on AT. So I can ask (and get) more than you. what do you offer? Facebook? £5 hand car wash and vac? you have to be (a lot) cheaper than me. So if you chase the same car as me you will be outbid or work for very little. Thats the hard facts of life. So buy something different if you want to Swim. Or do more of the same and sink. Silver card, gold card, doesnt matter. Dealer Auction is real. you are looking for problems which dont exist. the problem is how YOU are trying to do business. And Rory, I agree, he has pissed me off a bit too. 'please tell me everything I need to know to make millions' is how this sounds. I just hope this sorry story of akhtar the plastic trader acts as a warning to a series of amateurs who will look at this forum thinking its easy.
  11. I trade my junk out to local mechanics. You will know mechanics and bodyshop workers who love to make a few quid on the side. If you dont, go to your local industrial estate and find them. It takes the hassle out of the job, have 2 or 3 of them on board and you will always get out of the shit with NO HASSLE.

Hi Leo Spend the tenner. It'll give you a bit of info. And if youre setting up a company, you should probably talk to an accountant. I'm afraid to say you will learn everything else the hard way. But do give us an idea of your previous life and what you want to do, pitch or home? age and price range?
  13. As said above, do the refund, these people will find a way to stop it running if they really want the money back. You will sell it again, but do make sure you get the reg doc back before you give them any money - and make sure they know the refund is a goodwill gesture so they dont try and take you for any extra costs.
  14. COCK. pay the fine and be pleased thats all thats happened.
  15. Hi Mark even though it is a warranty you are selling the car for, in effect, more money, so the difference between what you would have sold the car for and what you are selling it for, is an increased margin. so if you are charging say 240 for the warranty, 40 of that goes to the vat man.
  16. This would make self warranting the best proposition, use the Lawgistics pads mentioned above for the PDI, and try to sell locally (ish) so you can get it back for potential claims. A warranty book stating what is (and isnt) covered by you will make your life (a little) easier
  17. Tim, That sounds a lot.Might be worth trying someone different.
  18. you dont have to offer a warranty but you do need to abide by the CRA 2015 - do a search and you will find plenty of info on here about this. as for 'if the warranty company dont cover it, do I have to?', see the CRA 2015. And then find a warranty company who will support you when needed. They are out there!
  19. Sell it to someone else who doesnt live that far away. if they cant be bothered to drive to look at it, they are just as likely to tell you to take it back for something like a stone chip.
  20. You dont need to do this guy a favour. Every time ive done a deal where the deal involves very little cash, theres a problem (normally significant) with the swapper that I hadnt spotted, intermittent running fault etc. I'm happier taking swappers for a few hundred quid, can always get rid of them. So go with your gut, and sell to someone else. If he really wants your car, he can use WBAC and turn up with the cash
  21. Not sure how a broken dipstick makes it a non runner. The owner should have at least informed you, but dont think that is a legal requirement unless its on your order. There are plenty of similar situations on here, I think you need to consider what a judge might do if it went that far. its a problem within 6 months so unless theres some serious abuse taken place, I think you would still be responsible (in his eyes)
  22. Yes, and getting rid of a google review is very hard. If you have other reviews on there, it does, of course dilute it. In my experience, most people who look at such things will take it with a pinch of salt if you do a professional reply. If someone had a real problem with your business, you would know about it. So this is some idiot who likes to go around trashing businesses. But dont attack the person who has left the review, there was some unfortunate business that got trolled (details were on here a few months back) and tens of awful reviews. That is the last thing any of us need
  23. why would that be your 'main thing'?
  24. And it is a real one because i've just spoken to them on the phone! I actually sold one from a cargurus lead in between xmas and new year. I have the free package where they have to contact by email and you dont get anything apart from a car gurus email address to reply to , but its getting a fair bit of response so far. I know its been discussed before, but for the people who do well from cargurus, is it the free package or a paid for one?
  25. I dont do the windscreen stickers anymore, I have a roadside pitch. But as everyone else says, its mainly internet driven. And most of the good stickers like 'auto' 'low mileage' etc have gone missing over the years. Dont think 'electric windows' or 'power steering' impress many people anymore....
