If you tell a customer you are a mechanic then when something goes wrong months later you will get “You knew something was wrong when you sold it. You’re a mechanic!” I’m not sure if it’s exactly public liability you need. I forget the correct term. But if you are fixing brakes for instance. Then you should have some insurance in place in case something happens and you get sued. A private person wouldn’t need this but you are a trader, as you are buying and selling cars for a profit. I doubt very much that you will get a knock on the door from HMRC but be aware you should be declaring any profits.

In that case start off working for someone else and learn at their expense. I'm sure there are dealers who are looking for cheap help, you can use some of your £200000 to subsidise your wages.

Always check WBAC as well. +1 for part exchanges. As the customers often get a value from them first and they are usually lower than Autotrader.

Elderly but can get finance?
-
It can be. Customer signs online with Zuto. You just send an invoice. Obviously don’t release the car until funds are in.

I would display it with something like "2012" on it. Then when you get a viewer explain the situation and tell him you will swap it top a 12 plate free of charge if he wants. Just put him as the new keeper and when he get's the V5 put it on retention. He will get the retention and can sell the plate if he wishes.

Well that’s just bragging!

Probably because Auotrader and DA, I assume, use Experian. Hpi could have made a error listing it as Cat D.

I would suggest telling him to ring you. Then ignore any future texts. If he does ring tell him you need to inspect the vehicle. As Simon will tell you maintaing a classic car like this is part of the fun of owning it.

1.6 is totally underpowered 3000rpm at 60mph. Early ones suffered from excessive oil comsumption due to glazed bores. Let's have a game. Try and pick a car that nobody can find a fault with! -
The problem is it's a high spec model with lots of toys, such as heads up display and distance control which you don't mention, so looks expensive against a lower mileage more modest spec such as these https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-search?radius=1500&postcode=ss69ey&onesearchad=Used&onesearchad=Nearly%20New&onesearchad=New&make=PEUGEOT&model=3008&price-to=6000&year-from=2013&transmission=Automatic

Him buying a big old smoker to use as a daily motorway hack (I presume l, evidence need please) could also be stated by you as being unsuitable for purpose as what he really needed was a small ecomobile, as new and low mileage as possible. Irrelevent. If he told the Op that that is what he wanted the car for then it should be fit for that purpose. -

I use rear number plates in the windscreen to display "Diesel" and "Auto" and a silent salesman for everything else. I have to admit at my age these are mostly for my benefit!!!

£2300 a year. Forecourt and £300,000 of stock with Allianz. That includes loan car cover but no employee cover. You did well. Stress and hassle usually costs me -
You can have your name on it. It needs to have your postcode but nothing else. Not allowed phone number or web address.

It's £99 a week cash to advertsie on this site.

£7 + Vat From our local Vauxhall main dealer.

yes and yes Number plates cost me £7 a pair and apart from the advertising I think a new set of plates lift the look of a car. Unlike window stickers the customer is unlikely to remove them.
