I would also tell them what we as dealers do to a car when we sell it. Valet, touch in, service, warranty, etc. Basically get the car as good as we can. How many owners do that every 2 years Worst cars are 1 owner 10 year old examples.

I don’t know whether the supplying dealer had his money snatched back. Just that the card company had refunded her and she had to pass on what she got for the car to them.

I did a deal with a lady a couple of years ago. She'd bought a Prius off a local dealer. It had a fault with the battery cooling fan. Apparently the supplying dealer didn't want to know. She had got her money back from the credit card company, not sure how much of the price she had paid on the card. She still had the Prius, a 54 plate low mileage example and said the card company had told her to pay them whatever she got for it. I didn't particularly want the car so went silly and got it.

When I was young I fancied the girl in the newsagents. Used to go in everyday for a packet of sweets. But buying 8 cars in 12 months!!!! That's a whole different level!!!

So since the changes in January I've only been taking deposits up to £200 on credit cards. Yesterday was the first time I couldn't deal a customer because he had no other means of paying. Admittedly it would only cost me £50 in fees, but over the course of a year they all add up. As we can't pass on the cost or do admin fees just for credit cards I was wondering how everyone else was approaching it. I know some dealers won't touch credit cards because of section 75 which is fair enough. Do you fund other peoples financial lifestyle choices and swallow the fees or just lose sales. Also at what point do those of you who don't take cards qualify how they intend to pay?

I had a1.4 Yaris Diesel. Sold it. Dpf light came on within a couple of weeks. My garage injected some cleaner into the Dpf, worked fine for a fortnight then light came on again. Took it to Toyota and they performed a regen, very reasonable £68+Vat. 2 weeks later light reappeared. Took dpf off and got it professionally cleaned. Been ok since. Had another one that the injection stuff cured. My point is. It might. It might not. Sorry!! If you have sold it and are worried customer might reject it I would get it professionally cleaned.

He's now looking to spend a bit more because his uncle in Nigeria, a Prince by all accounts, has given him some money. Apparently he's been trying to give it way for ages but no one replies to his emails!

If you buy a car without a V5 best check and see if it is still taxed. If it is then customer has lost the V5 as they can’t get a refund without it. i applied for one on the 8th of Feb. Had a letter last week saying it should be processed this week.

To which the customer will reply “Well if you are coming over you might as well come in the car!” Which is back to square one.

With Cf24/7 If they view the car first we try and place them elsewhere. Had one a couple of weeks ago. Got her placed straight away at 11% Apr. Cf24/7 wanted 32%! Saved her £1500. Earned £340 for myself. Most just sign first then turn up and drive away. Their standard charge is £150 + Vat. I have got it down to £100. If it’s a prime bit of stock then I just tell them I haven’t go anything in it for them. Its a great business model. Earn at both ends. But at the end of the day we don’t have to use them.

The main dealers/Motorpoint etc could of course put their name in the logbook so when the customer receives the V5 the first owner is no longer visible.
