Cheers Greengiant, been trying to figure it out for days now.

Never got the "buy it now" auction. I often have a look through them, Grade 5 - no mechanical report/or warning on "engine noise" that you can buy for Cap Clean money then your £500 fees on top are people really that desperate for stock? What also gets me is the grading on older cars, no condition report, but 5 dim lit photos of a black car from 6ft away is apparently "enough" information to make your own judgement on it.

Probably a stupid question... however i haven't sold "new" cars since the new rules on refunding the tax came in Basically, im looking at buying an ex demo (registered before the new car tax rules this year). The first year road tax is about £500, and subsequent years tax is £270. Im guessing the dealer has paid the first years road tax, but will then get a refund when they sell it to me? Will i have to pay the first years tax again? or just the subsequent tax?

What to do when you cannot sell a car?
CJ Underhill replied to SK Motors's topic in General Dealer Chat
As others have said, sit tight on it and keep your eye out for another one, because the moment you finally sell it, the phone wont stop ringing for it -
I know exactly the place you are on about. Over a dozen times i've been outbid on Saabs, watching them fetch over retail price to find them advertised at this place. However... they must sell them, and they make mine look dirt cheap...

Wonder if the auction companies are trying to cash in on the madness? Just having a look through an auction companies "by it now" auction Now i havent checked the prices, however one car caught my eye. They list the prices as AVG - £14,750 CLN - £15,450 RTL - £17,450 Bearing in mind this is a grade 2 vehicle.... their "buy it now" price... £17,900

There are those dirt cheap GPS trackers, not sure how reliable they are but are about £10... better than nothing i guess -
What's The Highest Milage Car You Have Seen
CJ Underhill replied to XFS's topic in General Dealer Chat
Had a SAAB 95 with pushing 400,000 miles and tbh, it was probably one of the best driving 95's i had driven -

The problem would be knowing which dealer it is. You get a rough location i.e Manchester, Derby etc but that could be a number of dealers on DA. You would have to try and guess from the picture background which dealer it is. Then all they would do is take the images in a different location

200k miles? Its just about run in then. grew up with SAAB, parents always had them so i was bound to get into them eventually. Pre GM SAABs are such lovely cars, well built and i think they look pretty timeless. As for 9-5's, never really had any serious issues with them and i've sold hundreds of them If you can get a Satria, do it. Had mine about 9 years now and just cant part with it. A little under powered (unless modified) but arguably the best driving, handling vehicle i have ever driven, i'd say on Par with the elise & 205 GTI. People on the owners club are running 4G63 engines, 300bhp + as pretty much all of it is old Mitsubishi. They are like little go karts. Problem is getting one, they are worth about 3x the value in parts then as a car and theres only about 100 left in the country. parts are scarse now, and the price of available parts. Also makes you look like a 90's MaxPower throw back
-
Highly modified Satria GTI... yes i havent grown up yet , a classic Saab 900 convertible for the summer, and a Porsche 944 for some fun

Theres Dealer PX (Rybrook) however there system seems a bit odd. If somebody puts a bid in the last few minutes it adds an extra 5 minutes to the auction time, but they have some nice stuff, and the odd buy it now I've signed up to Buying Buddy, but never bought anything from them yet, has anybody had much dealings with them?

If glasses is saying the trade is £13,560 then i'd say the Market Retail would be sub £14,000.. lets say £13,800? I've found recently that whatever Glasses have as the "trade" price is actually near enough the Market price In which case i'd go for somewhere between CAP Ave and CAP clean, £12,000?

I've really gone off Manheim, and doubt ill be buying from the again Very slow website, no service details until you've clicked in the vehicle The last time i used the website i was looking at an auction in Washington 3 cars had no condition report until about half an hour before the auction started All the cars i was looking at (about 8 in total) all had "awaiting service history" . I had to wait until they came through the hall to find out if/what services it had had All cars listed 1 key, except 3 cars which somehow had 0 keys How could i work out if it was worth the 3 hour drive to washington or not to go and bid on these vehicles, and how to plan my day around it To top it off, bidding on the simulcast i was clicking away to submit a bid, i know i pressed the button before the auctioneer had started closing the auction, i tried 3/4 times yet my bids never appeared, until i got a display message to say my bid couldnt be accepted as the auction had finished... back to BCA for me
-
Touch wood.. BCA have been pretty good. I bought a Corsa VXR online, grade 2. Once the car had arrived it was anything but, 3 rusted panels, loads of scracthes, dents, paint contamination, ripped seat cover etc... Couple of phone calls and they offered to contribute or refund. I had to send pictures to them, and was told it would only be refunded if the missed damage would render it a different grade. Sure enough the vehicle went back, and was then listed as a grade 4 (still missing the rusty bonnet lip and ripped seat) I bought an assured Saab from manhiem, car arrived and the radio didnt work. Amplifier had broken, £800 for a new one. Rude women at bristol wouldnt have anything to do with it. Its only covered on whats on the assured, they dont check the radio, so its my tough luck and my problem. havent bought again from them

The odd ones seem to appear on sytners auction, and my local sytner select has a few supercars in stock When i used to work at bruntingthorpe (before it was Manheim) we used to get the RBS snatchbacks, repo'd cars which were all supercars, high spec'd and modified Range Rovers and bentley GT's etc Probably find aswell, alot of them would be sale or return vehicles or commisson sale. I have done a couple of classic E-types and Aston Martins which were clients cars we moved on for them on a sale or return basis, as i know personally i wouldn't hand over £120k for a private sale super car
-
I've just bought a couple from auction, well under book price I buy them all year round, my theory is, people are always "told" not to buy them in the summer but buy them in the winter as the prices are cheaper Plus, getting them for the right price, you can keep them if needs be till the spring and still make on them
-
I always list the faults, sometimes even too much on bodywork issues as i just can't be dealing with the hassel. I also put the faults in bigger front, and bold so there can be no missing it, then print off 2 copies of the ebay listing and get the buyer to sign both copies. Saying that, you're lucky the buyer turned up. I've sold an old clio auto 4 times on ebay.. even for £400... and nobody ever turns up to pick the bloody thing up
-
DMF is pretty common on the Saabs. As is EGR valves, and swirl valves. I've specialised in SAABs for years, aslong as you know what you are looking for and where to look you should be fine.

Sounds very similar to a guy i had once Wanted to buy a 4x4 we had in stock, he hadn't seen it etc but really needed it. Wanted it MOT'd and taxed so he could drive it away. I was a bit weary of doing it for the reason he hadn't even seen the car in the flesh, but he agreed to pay for the tax and mot even if he didnt take it. Wanted to trade a 54 plate vectra, which was he PA's company car. Arranged that he would be with me around 5pm.. 6pm comes and goes and apparently he has "got lost". Just like your chap, he was in a rush, needed to get going quickly, didnt even want to test drive my car before having it. ALARM BELLS!!!!!! For some reason he had had his "friend" at his local MOT centre MOT the car that day, hence why he was running late. The car had already got 4 months MOT left on it, but he wanted to prove to me how great the car was... strange i think.... Also strange as to why his PA's company car has already had 9 owners and she'd only had it 2 months Also, to say he had driven 2 hours to get to me, and got "lost" the temp gauge, engine, bonnet on his car was cold. I refuse to do the deal until i have driven his car... he will just have to wait. Needless to say, a bit of prior googling came in handy. When the engine got up to temperature, the automatic gearbox lost all gears, banging and crashing through them before before going into limp home. Get on the phone to a local gearbox specialists, common problem apparently, nearly £2k to refurb. I came back, offered to pay for the road tax on my car for him in exchange for his car... (£145) Alot of swearing and moaning and huffing and puffing, he finally excepts. Turns out, from speaking to a guy in our village that this bloke had been sat outside his house for nearly an hour and a half (waiting for it to cool down) and even had to ask him to move so he could get off his drive -
I use blackbushe quite alot too, its probably you buggers im bidding against haha Auction prices seem to be all over the place. I tried buying a dozen or so cars this week from BCA, and wasn't close to any of them. I always wonder if people take in the auction fee's. You can add £500 to the hammer price just in fees, and if like me, you're too lazy to go an collect you have delivery aswell. Does anyone else follow a car? I keep the paperwork/ condition report etc for all the cars i've missed out on. Then usually on a quite afternoon, i'll search auto trader and see where it ended up, and what they are retaling it for compared to what i thought price wise. Example - I was bidding on a lovely SAAB 93 the other day, was prepared to go over glasses price as i was confident in what i could get for it. Needless to say, the hammer price was near on what i would of retailed it for. It's not just Cap that seem to be a long way out Glass Trade - £7430 Glass Retail - £8920 Hammer Price - £9,375 Car is advertised for nearly £11,000 !! Found it on autotrader at a dealer, Wont mention the name... however it did make me laugh that they have on their website that they DON'T buy cars from auction, just genuine main dealer part exchanges... think somebody is telling porkies... it would also help if they hadn't used BCAs auction photographs in their advert Anybody else use think there's the "phantom" bids going on? I bought a car 2 weeks ago (it quickly got sent back tho) , i was bidding online for it, against "another online bidder" until i decided to pull out and let the other bidder have it, i'd already gone over and above what i wanted to pay. 5 minutes later i get a call saying there "was an issue" with their online bidding system and it had "accidently" submitted the last bid in error and that my bid was actually the winning bid.

We use the old sweet lollys to keep the kids sweet. Chocolate is a decent idea, but can go off, melt etc The problem is the cost. if you are giving it away and maybe not getting anything in return it could be costly. I like the idea of the small Corgi or Matchbox car. Maybe speak to you promottion company and see if you can get some little "Umesh" decals/stickers to put on them How about a smallish cuddly toy? You can get the little t-shirts printed with your logo on. Don't know if any of you have had one, but i've got a "Go Skippy" car insurance stuffed kangaroo on my desk and the kids/babies love it. Although after reading some reviews on that company i have never promoted them and removed the t-shirt

I seem to end up buying more cars for myself than for stock. Im a sucker for anything different Currently drive a highly modified Proton Satria GTi, a standard Satria GTI, Porsche 944, Porsche 924, Classic SAAB 900 Convertible and have two classic Mini's a projects Talking of scrapping.. we once scrapped 2 SAAB 99 Turbos as they were worth more in metal at the time... if only we could predict the future hey
