  1. It’s interesting that you mention Volvos as they make a good example. Anyone who’s been dealing 10years+ will know what I mean by a ‘Volvo man’ - only wants a Volvo, not too fussy, realistic expectations for their budget & if the car was described correctly he bought. No f***ing about, the deal was done before he rolled up. Nowadays ‘Volvo man’ has all but disappeared. Since Volvos are more mainstream they now attract as much penniless scum as many other brands and rather like the newer Volvo cars themselves, the punters are cheap & nasty.
  2. Do anyone give a f*** nowadays about the number of owners? Those days were 20 years ago, weren’t they?
  3. I’ve been asked for a spoiler off a 4x4 before & only last week a friend was asked to sell seats 6 & 7 out of a Zafira he has for sale. Imagine him then trying to sell that - the only 5 seat Zafira in the UK!
  4. Even if there were gold there, my customers wouldn’t have a pot to put it in.
  5. Bloody hell TV, I thought you started positively but then you ended up even more negative than me. You’re right about the punters though, umming & arrring, often turn up without a few quid for a deposit (thankfully the nearest cash machine is 50yds away), sometimes drag the deal out a week and the number of the general public who are simply lying, bullshitting, deluded bastards is unbelievable.
  6. Any f***er who is expecting an easy ride in this industry at the moment is deluded. Cars expensive at the block? If you don’t like the heat get out of the kitchen.
  7. No (so not much help) but like much aftermarket ‘stuff’ it’ll either be fine or shite. Obviously the original is buggered so it’s be better than that . Don’t write stuff off cos it’s cheap. Everyone on this forum thinks anything on eBay is spew - I can buy genuine Sachs clutches/DMF for 60% of the price of the local factors.
  8. I suggest you just do a few from home. At the mo I honestly wouldn’t advise someone to pack in a job that pays their bills to start trading full time unless they have a strong financial cushion to fall back on - and that’s after they’ve paid out for stock. Mind you, with the quality of employers of many non-professional jobs, contractual hours (i.e. sweet f.a.) and low wages I don’t know how many unskilled workers can afford to live.
  9. Does it matter? Nowadays the auctioneer is either going to run the arse off them or usually there’ll be a sea of bidders’ hands anyway.
  10. Too true. A greedy cheap man’s car & there’ll be plenty of interest (genuine and dreamers) at really cheap money. A Bit Of Flash For Not Much Cash.
  11. Just fling some under seal at it. “Heavily under sealed”
  12. I’d like to know how you get £2569 for a 16yr old, end of life, 1.8 petrol Merc.
  13. Sorry, I’m with the customer on this one. The car has been incorrectly advertised which has resulted in a customer being mislead. Take no shit, either offer to put a Bluetooth kit in or refund, no compensation, no VW main dealer charges. Any reasonable person will see how the mistake’s been made & they won’t want to hand back the car.
  14. Absolutely true. Unfortunately there seems to be a few newer traders on here who regularly spout forth their ignorance regarding small claims, rights to returns, mechanical problems, etc. etc. etc. GLENVUM, tbh I’d sack her off - these shouters are all wind & piss. She doesn’t want to communicate in writing which would suit me down to the ground. Special mention must surely go to Funny Farm for their VERY sensible alternative suggestion.
  15. I’m with you on this & the treatment of claims in court. Unless the plaintiff is a complete idiot making wildly unreasonable claims (i.e. like the Land Rover man mentioned above) then I think in a small claims court scenario the defendant is on the back foot, assuming plaintiff is Johnny Public & the defendant is Retail.
  16. Haha, you know when you’re at the block and you hear everyone talking about how much they make on every deal................ Pulling £1400+ out of £600 old hatchbacks. Nice work if you can get it - I’m jealous.
  17. AD, do you read their shite for fun? I’ve had a scan through - imagine dealing with Surfer01. He’s out to sort out every car dealer. The worst thing you could do is give a man like that an ear. Sack him off & threaten him if necessary.
  18. I accidentally bought one at the block a few months ago - I thought it was cheap when the hammer dropped . Anyhow, 2009 (I think) black Focus Estate, decent spec, lovely condition & loads of interest. A really nice old bloke bought it, came 250 miles on the train, looked like Santa but filthy clothing & stinking of b.o. - glad I wasn’t sat next to him on the train. Oh bugger! I thought when I bought but it was a nice little deal in the end, if I remember correctly, driven out for £850ish & left me at £2200.
  19. £1995-2395!?!! Whereabouts in the country are you? Central London? If you’ve got a pitch you’ve got half a chance. If you’re an internet seller & up north the car’s barely worth a toss (with or without history). Absolute peasant fodder. The punters will be horrible greedy bastards. I’d rather eat my own sick.
  20. Send him this; Hi, sorry but if you’re struggling to raise the difference I can accept the difference from a credit card (if you have one) by issuing you a purchase invoice via PayPal. Please bear in mind that I may have other people interested in it so it's best to call me BEFORE you travel to confirm it is still available. Best Regards
  21. I hope so. We like a bit of smoke up here, it reminds us of when there was some heavy industry & employment rather than whippets & rickets.
