  1. Give them a week & I think reality will sink in. I think on any longer-termers I’ve got advertised I’ll consider half-reasonable offers to move them on for fresh stock.
  2. Appraisals might work well enough on 2 - 3 year old stock but they don’t cover 25% of what I check (in 90 - 120 seconds so it’s not exactly rocket science). Someone wrote earlier they believe Manheim may try to revisit this in the future, I agree, but it will not work on cheaper/older stock given the current wholly lacking appraisals.
  3. I’d rather take my chances with DA than pay up at a Manheim cash desk, be directed to a handover point only to see the yard lads pushing out my latest purchase with a knocking engine cos the clutch had just packed-up halfway across the yard.....and that’s before I stuck my head inside to be greeted with the stench of cigarettes, a non working blower fan & faulty electric windows. Bid online? No fucking chance whatsoever.
  4. Good luck. There is absolutely no chance of me bidding online for cars up to £3K based on their absolutely pisspoor non-descriptions. I’d be bankrupt within weeks of buying blind from them shysters.

What do you mean MORE problems? He didn’t seem to have a problem shagging that young chap & he also never had a problem with his reputation by shagging that same young chap behind his Mrs’s back. He should be advertising Teflon.
  6. Plenty on Dealer Auction though for the trade. I guess the main dealers are doing nowt so they’ve had time to upload all of their accurately described gems.
  7. Absolutely. They can f.o. & traipse around for hours looking at the pure shit, burning off their petrol, for all I care.
  8. I’ve NEVER had a customer walk from a car with a clean engine bay. In fact it’s only very rarely I hear negative comments about clean engines - most don’t know what goes on under the bonnet anyway. Also, on my sub-£3K cars if they’ve been to view anything prior to me from what I hear half of it’s dirty & misdescribed.
  9. How much do you pay for Finish? I buy a 25ltr drum at a time & was recently charged £100+VAT which was more than usual. It was a different lad on the van & admittedly that’s all I buy from them though.
  10. Can’t you get pissed & fornicate with a prostitute without going to America?
  11. Here’s an opportunity for any of you lads who own a truck & are saying business is quiet. Make hay etc. etc.
  12. One size fits all here for my gems. I use Finish for everything. Inside, outside, wheelarches, tyres & under the bonnet. Tbh it’s bloody good stuff & really does finish off the cars (pardon the pun). More than half of my cars go to the valeter but the rest (the quick & easy ones) I do myself.
  13. Most definitely! The number of people who lift the bonnet, see it beautifully presented (usually better than the bodywork tbh) & then declare the engine perfect is a surprise. I pressure wash every engine bay, usually when hot & running, then finish off with Finish. However I know what not to spray the water at. Only ever had one problem & that was just in January on an Alfa 159. Parked up afterwards for a month, found to be in limp mode, found to be the engine fan had seized - full of water.
  14. Every cloud has a silver lining - perhaps I might have a fortnight away this year instead of a week. Funnily enough on a similar vein have you ever tried explaining to a punter that when times are hard car prices rise? It sounds counter-intuitive because they think; lack of customers = buyers market. I then tried to educate this chap in the laws of supply & demand; lack of customers = lack of cars (poor supply). I wish I’d not wasted my breath because he then educated me in the fact the local travel agents are screaming for his business. I knew at this point I’d backed a loser & politely sent him on his way to book 10 days in Benidorm. Quite how a self catering holiday in that shithole gets you to work when your current car is fucked is beyond me but that’s his business.
  15. Quite frankly some deserve to. Absolutely. I’ve got as many waiting in my repair queue as I have for sale but a few more at nice money never go amiss. (A few more not quite so knackered would also be a bonus )
  16. Imagine dealing with this mentality
  17. Nah. If memory serves, some nutter resurrected one a few months ago that was about 4.5 years old.
  18. Screwfix must of realised they’re selling a good vacuum with the Titan - about 4 years ago I’m fairly sure mine only cost £35. AT must be running the show.
