  1. We currently have 1 full time mechanic working for us. Workload is increasing through growth and I was thinking of perhaps taking on either an apprentice or alternatively an experienced mechanic. If I was to take on an apprentice can anyone offer any information as to how to go about it, is there anything I need to have in place or any organisations I can speak to to be able to get someone placed with us? Thanks.
  2. Bring it back to you. Is it a hassle for the buyer? Probably but if he wants the car fixed free of charge then that's his best option. Some customers are very nice and reasonable people. Some just love to make a massive song and dance about things. I would not not entertain the idea of going and collecting a customers car. It would not IMO be reasonable to expect a used car dealer servicing customers nationwide to go and repair cars on the driveway or collect them from customers who could be anywhere from 0-400+ miles from them.
  3. Get a finance rep to come out and set you up. Might aswell be offering the finance and make the commision yourself. FWIW evolution funding have got a very nice system which is dead easy to prop customers on and has quite a large panel of lenders you get the commision. I got got my largest finance commision cheque since starting in the last week and it really does make a difference I have sold the cars and made extra on the finance.
  4. Why do they always get checked after purchase not before ? Lol
  5. Agree Gavin, a local chap sold a £500 pug 206 in the last week or so - customer took it to Halfords to get it checked over after purchase. Were told front 2 tyres were low. Customer rings local chap rather worked up 'What are you gonna do about it? I have young children in this car!' Tires were low and worn but not illegal. On a £500 car I would say that is probably rather lucky, we all see what £500 gets you in an auction and it is not a lot.
  6. Haha - confident they are buying it then, could always bump the price up mate I like to think I am pretty quick and as soon as the hammer is down on an online auction the car is coming soon on my website and autotrader but I must say I like to have bought the car first. Can I add a new Monday morning rant :- Customer has just called, bought a car off us 5-6 weeks ago. 60 plate Insignia having a 'few problems with it'. I ask what the problems are he is experiencing. Mainly the boot does not open at all. This opened when he was on site with us because I remember looking at it with him. He agrees. It has not opened at all since he got it home and this now must be sorted urgently as he is worried about this on his new purchase - No issue in terms of taking a look and sorting this but if it has been happening best part of 6 weeks why the sudden urgency? Other issue is he put a xmas cd in the car and it now won't eject. Really stroppy bloke, can't believe you sold me a car with all these issues, what are you going to do about it or do I need to take it further type... We always look after our customers but when they get my back up like that over minor easily fixed issues it does rub me up the wrong way. So many places just offer awful service and tell these types 'not my problem see ya'.
  7. Usually just me here doing the selling so I know it's a tough day when you have to juggle that many customers about and still pull in the results. Great feeling.
  8. Great stuff love days like that they fly by. You are going to have a smashing month if you keep it up mate. Is it just you on your own ? Just the 1 here today with 3 handovers not had any other viewers out or much in the way of calls but it has been a miserable day. There is always tomorrow.
  9. Not Hsbc after online banking down all yesterday and a good chunk of today.
  10. Global pay and the funds are in our account next working day and ready to spend as available cash.
  11. I get my debit card payments/credit card payments next working day. Makes a big difference for me and helps cashflow. 4 dealt today, 6 for the month so far off to a good start feeling charged up and ready to go. Bit of a warranty Monday here with lots of minor jobs having come back today having been postponed over Xmas.
  12. Best thing I have learned over the year is never buy hot food if you want to eat it, however it will always result in some customers turning up
  13. Zuto one has been pulled off so a nice 36 units for that 'quiet dead month' everyone warned us about. Best wishes to everyone, have a good night tonight and a great start to the new year.
  14. 1 today first one since Xmas. Nice profit in it which was a winner. Couple of things lined up tomorrow and just had a missed call from Zuto whilst I was on to another customer. Wish Zuto would learn to leave a voicemail.

  16. What has been the highlights of the year 2015 for you all? Focus on the high's not the lows.
  17. First thing so between 8:30 - 10:30 midweek. After that unable to call it.
  18. Currently sat on 30 for the Month, this weekend has seen 4 cars go. Certainly dropping off now was dead yesterday and so far today. A lot of the dealer groups will hold decent auction stock back til January and get the added profit from the people desperate to stock up. I did quite a lot of buying last week trying to keep on top of things. Trying to get a last couple of cars today and tomorrow online but very little showing that has my interest.
  19. Can he lend the nice lad from RS car sales a C63 AMG for a weekend?
  20. I think you probably can just vet the people buying from you. I reckon gumtree might be a good source for people thinking they can buy a car quick clean it and flip it to AT. We had a great local auction near here which has recently closed - It was 5 miles away so no problem dropping the cars off there. I got more money for my part ex's there than I would have dared retail them for and it was weekly money back in on all the cheapie cars which helped cash flow and clear space. If I tried to chuck this stuff through manheim/sma etc the fees would render it completely useless. Ebay auctions for me have always resulted in people coming out and then saying it has this wrong, that wrong etc etc. Have to list them 2/3 times to get things gone. And I do write honest ebay adverts but if i can tell you everything wrong with a £300-£1000 car that it might need to get it in tip top shape I might aswell try and sell it.
  21. funnily enough lots of the companies we deal with have sent us a Xmas card. Some that we have a big spend with even sent us a gift. Euro parts who our monthly spend with is similar, maybe a touch more than AT were very generous in the business relationship. Not AT.
  22. I struggle with anything small like the aygo and corsa etc etc - Funny really when I first started out I only sold small 'first cars' how little I knew then. Good sellers, Golf GTI and Astra VXR I never struggle to move on and Rav4's tend to always be good also.
  23. I cant believe they charge you to set up an account to buy cars from them! I don't recall ever paying to set up an account with them. Well run auctions though and some of the most helpful staff I have encountered at any auction. Manheim Shotts auction and SMA Kinross and SMA newcastle have the best staff I have dealt with.
