Really quietened down this week here. How are the rest of you getting on?
-
Have any of you done any good saves on test drives to avert customer attention to mouldy seatbelts?
-
Don't suppose you know of a UK equivalent do you It's not for me its for a friend.
-
Craigslist is huge here in the UK for selling cars isn't it
-
I would feel that the warranty obligations on a higher mileage car would be far less and I think most reasonable people would feel the same. Most aftermarket warranties will not cover these high mileage vehicles.
-
mr Skillawonjker, Sorry its just sold!
-
Priced accordingly they always sell for us. Certain cars it is not really such an issue ie a mondeo/audi a4 etc Always a struggle shifting a 1.2 corsa taken in px on 198k.

Ive actually been in touch with the local college and an agency called total people today who have set the ball rolling. Fingers crossed, could be a good opportunity for someone. They just need to be able to put up with our existing mechanic now

I would not even entertain questions like that, not really needed.

Completely agree with you here. Small business, cashflow is important and I am more than happy for you to pay for the car and leave it with me for 2 weeks if you like or alternatively start using it right away and I will do the paperwork for you no problem and give you a quick call once the plate transfer has been done and you can switch your plates across anyway. I have not had one person who has ever objected to this or raised it as an issue when I have explained the reasoning behind it.
-
I just charge them the 80 and do it for them say will call you when the new logbook comes through and you can swap the plates over. Speeds things up.

He buys them off roadside traders I met him there when I was stocking up keep it quiet 3 today here, couple of finance declines who I could place sub prime but the payments were to high. Loads of test drive time wasters who have just come out and first question can I drive it, we have 6 more to look at.
-
Motors for me nowhere near the volume of autotrader but do get calls and enquiries off it. Had a bit of a boost in motors sales/enquiries since back from Xmas not sure if maybe they are doing a bit of a push on advertising. from others I have spoken with it is now better than when first launched.

I am open 7 days a week. I open 08:30 til 7pm monday to Friday, 9-6 Saturday and 10-4 Sunday. I regularly stay late to do deals or have customers pick up cars. I personally work 7 days total last year in 12 months I had 14 days off. I easy do 100 hours a week and have personally experienced great growth through my own hard work and dedication. If you want to play at it and juggle the 9-5 with selling a few cars you are no threat to me. I am open when you are working at your day job. Part timer with no/little reviews or online presence is not working hard to maintain the reputation and feedback we/us have gained. I tell you what really gets me annoyed and it really boils my P!55...Its the faces that are at the auctions running businesses with premises and 10+ cars in stock at any time easily operating beyond the vat threshold who are NOT vat registered. They are direct competition to any of us 'proper/fulltime/legit traders'. They hurt us. And also these are the ones who don't give a hoot about warranty and obligations.

Based in Cheshire Phil - I was'nt sure if you just start asking the colleges or if there is an organisation that deals with placing trainees etc. Tried a few google searches but conflicting information seems to be there.

We currently have 1 full time mechanic working for us. Workload is increasing through growth and I was thinking of perhaps taking on either an apprentice or alternatively an experienced mechanic. If I was to take on an apprentice can anyone offer any information as to how to go about it, is there anything I need to have in place or any organisations I can speak to to be able to get someone placed with us? Thanks.

Who is responsible for returning a car? Buyer or Dealer?
Rory RSC replied to Phil's topic in General Dealer Chat
Bring it back to you. Is it a hassle for the buyer? Probably but if he wants the car fixed free of charge then that's his best option. Some customers are very nice and reasonable people. Some just love to make a massive song and dance about things. I would not not entertain the idea of going and collecting a customers car. It would not IMO be reasonable to expect a used car dealer servicing customers nationwide to go and repair cars on the driveway or collect them from customers who could be anywhere from 0-400+ miles from them. -
Get a finance rep to come out and set you up. Might aswell be offering the finance and make the commision yourself. FWIW evolution funding have got a very nice system which is dead easy to prop customers on and has quite a large panel of lenders you get the commision. I got got my largest finance commision cheque since starting in the last week and it really does make a difference I have sold the cars and made extra on the finance.

Agree Gavin, a local chap sold a £500 pug 206 in the last week or so - customer took it to Halfords to get it checked over after purchase. Were told front 2 tyres were low. Customer rings local chap rather worked up 'What are you gonna do about it? I have young children in this car!' Tires were low and worn but not illegal. On a £500 car I would say that is probably rather lucky, we all see what £500 gets you in an auction and it is not a lot.
-
Haha - confident they are buying it then, could always bump the price up mate I like to think I am pretty quick and as soon as the hammer is down on an online auction the car is coming soon on my website and autotrader but I must say I like to have bought the car first. Can I add a new Monday morning rant :- Customer has just called, bought a car off us 5-6 weeks ago. 60 plate Insignia having a 'few problems with it'. I ask what the problems are he is experiencing. Mainly the boot does not open at all. This opened when he was on site with us because I remember looking at it with him. He agrees. It has not opened at all since he got it home and this now must be sorted urgently as he is worried about this on his new purchase - No issue in terms of taking a look and sorting this but if it has been happening best part of 6 weeks why the sudden urgency? Other issue is he put a xmas cd in the car and it now won't eject. Really stroppy bloke, can't believe you sold me a car with all these issues, what are you going to do about it or do I need to take it further type... We always look after our customers but when they get my back up like that over minor easily fixed issues it does rub me up the wrong way. So many places just offer awful service and tell these types 'not my problem see ya'.
-
Usually just me here doing the selling so I know it's a tough day when you have to juggle that many customers about and still pull in the results. Great feeling.
-
Great stuff love days like that they fly by. You are going to have a smashing month if you keep it up mate. Is it just you on your own ? Just the 1 here today with 3 handovers not had any other viewers out or much in the way of calls but it has been a miserable day. There is always tomorrow.
