  1. Sending you some good luck David hope you get it sorted..
  2. Your right BHM I've seen them use a focus st up here seen a black one kicking about its a nice one to has the nice darker wheels etc well I guess they use undercover as seen it parked in in the two car driveway next to the standard beat car 308 at the local plod station so guess was an undercover car.
  3. No doubt it will do silly money but as others have said if we cant work it out it will put the customers off as blemheim says they will be thinking anyone can stamp a book . And as matt r says if customer cant find the mot history they will think there is something strange going on For future reference but not in this particular car as it has main dealer stamps though bear in mind we i have all heard stories about stamps being bought on ebay etc but if a car has any sort off stamp in the book it will be marked as history even if the book only has serviced by joe bloggs with no address or phone number service carried out by genuine parts a car badge etc at some auctions more so the independents they mark it as history but we have no way to verify this .. I know a some of auctions list or used to list the actually services and dealer name but others don't and others have stopped with new data protection laws . Just something that might help some one out that was all I bought one it just said on its last stamp serviced by George second name mechanic .on the auction catalogue it just said 8 stamps 2 main dealer I never actually thought to check the online description as was just something that happened to be at a sale i was attending it was a cheapish older crv so didn't really matter or have much affect as was a £2995 car for the dealer I appraised for a the time but would have hated it to happen on a range rover sport or something .
  4. That's another possibility I guess .
  5. Thanks Nick You got me thinking now . i get what your saying my friend did that with a discovery to his dads holiday home and then sold it at his uk van site about 3 years later and as you say when you think about it like you have explained it thats what could have happened with the clio and possible and most likely did . Im thinking though say someone decided to move for what they thought was good taking there car with them had a cousin do it and move back to the uk when his wife took ill so effectively you think when going the car is tobe exported for good but something changes say personal circumstances and you want to bring the car back How would this happen with the car having the paper work filled in to be exported would its then just be like an import when brought into this country like many others even though it was previously a uk car just a thought
  6. I never thought of that but sounds like a good option I guess thats doesn't always show up on hpi Out of interest does the export marker remain if its exported then brought back to this country .
  7. Good for future reference . I've seen taxis not show up on mot history and then appear at auction with suspected lower mileage seen one of an auction site declared due to ecu reading but evrything else checked out another one was maybe money issues recent family man couldn't afford to keep two cars on the road but didn't want to part with his weekend car on the hope he would use it some time keep us posted
  8. Ex police cars or taxis don't always show up on mot history so watch it not undeclared ex private hire which wouldn't show on motor check does seem odd unless its maybe been someone gave up driving or passed away maybe son put it back on the road again but has other car and no use for it something like that maybe good luck
  9. Bought an old what i thought was cheap low mileage astra once about 11 years ago when i thought i knew everything To use as a smoker for a few months ended up about 2 grand into covering all possibles when doing the head gasket new oil cooler etc etc mechanics cost thing was never right wouldn't pull the skin of a rice pudding used it 6 months got rid for £600 at auction found out the guy that bought it got problems with it aswell did pumps injectors etc was no better and scrapped it after a year . Must have been the dearest astra ever was about 8 years old at the time was selling some four and five year old cars for less than the total tht went into that with purchase price etc guess the big tow-bar and ball show have been the giveaway . Same as the astra i should just have stuck a second hand engine in it at the time but was only showing 82k miles with history
  10. Yes my colleague did it once was with mainheim not bca though as i said earlier he just payed the money for it sold it and actually did ok out of it probably the best way as was his mistake they did phone once saying we had won the bid on a ford ka which had never been bid on as this was was there mistake they rightly sorted it ..
  11. There a lot of old uns here well respected old uns at that I love a good catch up with the old school gents love hearing all there stories from way back . Teach as younger guys a thing or too and as they saying go always respect your elders as my dad says .
  12. They did do a bluemotion that was free to tax yes ...
  13. I think He means in general . If we weren't already in the game and were new to it
  14. Yes we had a similar discussion a while back that sometimes works not everything and family life is also important as well as your own mental and physical health . there is a local do it all multi skilled trademan around here . He's booked up solid to well over christmas I've had him booked him to a bathroom for a while he doesn't start till early December so guess it tells how good he is at his job .just like it says to me the classic car specialist is
  15. There's always one everywhere isn't there .
  16. I remember a local farm auction called the implement sale local to us sold an escort at the Time under the hammer with no engine David . Also remember an old guy I know buying a civic with a broken timing belt that had been pushed in he bought an old peugeot 406 out it later on for £400 spend £200 on it and sold it for £150 in the same auction cause his daughter in law couldn't insure it being a 2.0 petrol you think he would have learned his lesson same guy bought a smoky diesel Mondeo for £1200 at the local car auction and sold it back through there for £200 some people never learn funny thing is the same old guy was always telling us what to buy at auctions saying things like what you buying that for it it will never sell etc . Proved him wrong a right few times
  17. Yes David thanks . That what it will be ecu software aero design and the rest off the above when you think about Never thought of that or gave it a thought before yes I do remember the Astra eco we bought a couple back in the day due to the cheap tax all the best
  18. yes terrible people out there in future id recommend considering only taking deposit over the phone hope it gets sorted keep us posted good luck
  19. I know the road tax is emission based . But something I often thought about was say take an 55 plate Peugeot 307 1.6 Hdi with 129g/km of emissions take a similar 59 plate Peugeot 207 Hdi with 119g/km the 55 plate costs £125 to tax for 12 months being 129g/km the 59 plate cost £30 to tax for 12 months being 119g/km to me it looks like the same 1.6 hdi engine right up till a late 2010 where they changed it 110g/km costing £20 The mechanic the does our work also said he's even put a salvaged engine in a newer 59 207 from an 05 307 so my question is what did Peugeot do to lower the emissions on the newer cars for what effectively looks like the same engine even down to covers etc although i may be wrong someone more technically minded than me will know the answer ..
  20. Most the staff at the auctions I attend are decent ladies in the office are lovely etc but what is it with some managers as you say cant get the basics even when you explain it to them . Others I've met over the years look down at you thinking there better than you while they swan about with there friends from large dealer groups and car supermarkets free lunches dinners coffees walking in and out the staff only offices as they please only if your face fits mind . I find the owners of Independent auctions genuinely nice down to earth people just like one of the lads as my old friend used to say but some of the larger chains are something else I remember one saying to me years ago we don't care about the small buyer if your not buying 50 a week you get no perks and we are more interested in looking after the vendor than the buyer anyway the same guy used to put cars through for a company now gone with px direct from on the sale note on windscreen at the time the guy I was working for was putting more cars in the sale and also buying more from there much larger pitch and delership workshop and they point blank refused for him .. To add to that we always say no or give them a low bid if they don't accept we offer them a bid in the next sale lower than original one funny thing is it would amaze you the amount of times the accept after its been through 3 sales there famous line is sorry cant really do much for you its only its first sale ..
  21. Remember my dad telling me about the beermats .. and about the first car they bought think another one he said was stout beer labels as in the 50s and 60s they were round and looked like a tax disc I remember as kid I would wonder what colour the tax disc would be for the year ive still a collection of tax disc holders in my parents cupboard somewhere collected them as a kid as well as pens and key rings and air freshners sad but true . Remember thinking id made it when i got my own printed tax disc holders then they lay in a box half the time I never changed them and think i bought 1500 at the time so was never getting through them bet theres a few of them in drawers lol
  22. Crazy £2 to check the mot history . The one i always liked was charging both the buyer and seller to hpi check it as though its be written off from leaving the seller to going through hall
