  1. I agree with you I always listen to others views and opinions. You seem to have found your market . Keep us al posted how your getting on .. have a word with the wife is right you have to choose your customer
  2. Sounds like the way forward Mark . I know its amazing the amount of people who will say that well it is a used car on a 10 grand car I like the one with the £300 banger on gumtree they ask if it has service history and a spare key had another contact sold a lot of that stuff they offered him mobile phones as swaps etc I had a mk4 golf tdi few years ago it actually had Fsh 2 keys 2 owners etc real nice car years mot no advisories guy said it not full service history cause it wasn't done at a volkswagen dealer think about 4 stamps were done elsewhere 2 but a specialist and 2 buy a local garage to the owner Im not knocking it mate here to help if I can joined here the same as you to help people and receive and offer advice . I have and still do ok with 4k and cheaper cars and sell the clean Px as well . And its a good point there is a lot of buyers of 4k cars .the contact I mentioned Actually started in the same way as you as has built a good successful business from a small forecourt to two large ones with mot station etc may I also thank you for your manners and wish you good luck for the future And remember everyone starts somewhere lots of people forgot that and also some try and get to big too soon just a thought about starting somewhere unrelated but came inti my mind is when a learner driver panics and cars are peeping at them etc i think to myself didn't you learn to drive once
  3. I've never had a lot either I always fix them and people seem happy I'm a great believer in it unless it the ones with the airfreshner is the wrong scent etc you know the types A family member bought a car from a dealer one time paid 5.5 k the car lasted 6 months engine management light on in three days after purchase went back to dealer who said fine when I had it needed 2.5 k work and numerous garage couldn't put it right they sold it to a guy who exported it for parts they didn't know there rights as elderly said dealer still trading when most try and do the right thing things like tht annoy me. what I meant with my contact something like say customer would bring a 1200 Astra back with management light on say maybe an air flow sensor he would fix it customer says thanks very much etc then they leave bad review saying engine light came on after 2 months wouldnt let me fix it At my own garage and had to travel 50 mile types . Guess that what he means .its not worth doing a lot when selling high end stuff from a wealthy area he stills sells the good pxs buy most get sold on to other home traders etc . I think if you stick to the under 5k stuff you can do well be best to stick to one market although I know some guys on here at auctions etc will do well with a 1000 pound car one week and maybe a 100 grand car the next infact I've seen guy who sells a lot of BMW Mercedes Audi etc buy a lot of older Mondeos and vectra at the auction recently .
  4. Welcome to the forum all the best for future .. tradevet ive did well with the under 5k stuff and cheapies I find most of customers are happy as long as you do repairs within reason for the first maybe 3 months . I normally keep a bit from each sale to do it with older stuff or ad a little on to cover it . Although A guy a work for help out at auctions lives in a different area still sell them but says he get more comebackd guess it a lot to do with setup and location ....
  5. I've sewn them in the past . Not ideal but certainly tider also smart repaired them I remember once I use a marker pen on an old ten year old corsa and peugeot 307 obv not a repair for the golf only don't that on old cheap shitboxes
  6. The problem was the no driving thing was verbal so he is going to turn around and say no one told him
  7. Ive been in involved in the motor trade for about 20 years a lot has changed but i miss the old days and a lot of the characters every auction had them
  8. I agree David theres no such thing as too much preparation I think your better doing the required work like brake pads servicing fresh mot etc if customer wants money off for small faults I just politely decline and say I'm not and wouldn't feel happy putting something out thats no up to my usual high standards . And that it will be taken care off during pre delivery inspection Even mostly do all the advisories on mot unless it something daft . Having said that A/GUNNER I wish you all the best and stick to your guns with the regards to customer using car when told not too ..
  9. Also those with Rds rich daddy syndrome ..
  10. I would fight the fact he used it after being told not though I always get them to sign to that affect .
  11. Well help them up David never mind posting here lol
  12. I even had to replace the gate hinges the other week
  13. Not seen much of trade-girl either maybe its the forum holiday season and we've not been invited
  14. Its like i said in my experience drivers don't seem to give a feck if its not there own well a lot of them anyways .
  15. I was meaning a lot of cars in general people don't care cause they don't own them .. in saying that my parents had an ex europcar for 8 years and it never missed a beat ..
  16. I guess there also treated like most pool cars I worked in a garage years ago we had a little 106 ex avis or hertz damaged repaired the workers and mechanics thrashed the poor thing to death . I agree from a customer point of view lets take for example a 12 plate astra diesel and for taking sakes there both white I guess a customer would rather pay a bit more for a 60k example owned by miss/mrs jones from new with full vauxhall history than ex plod 100 k miles different drivers worn seats and patchy history as others have said the renovation process is so much harder now too with half dash radios etc .. not like the old astras or peugeot 309s of yesteryear . In saying that if i could by one cheap id run it for myself same with written off repaired etc
  17. They always find something mate had a focus on lease same mate as the supermarket story he really cared for it polished it ever Saturday there report said it had a dent which in actual fact was actually just the way the door swage line went on it looked at a few at auction the exact same and light car washes scratches it was put down as fair wair and tare so no cost but in reality in was mint for a 2 year old car with 20k miles a business friend of mine I buy for sometimes bought it from bca funny thing was what he paid on the lease and the purchase price was about 5k short or the retail price of the car the lease obviously must get good discount buying cars in bulk
  18. Yes he was buying them early. 2000s he actually changed to leasing for a bit but last time I spoke to him he had went back to buying due to the cost at hand back time from the lease company ..
  19. I do actually Tony lol my mate was just saying the other day that I can't go into a supermarket without meeting someone I know and funnily enough my sister says the same guess it the joys in the wee place I stay everyone knows each other .. and over the years I've got to know a lot of other dealers etc attending auctions and was doing car buying for a few etc also my dad is popular and well liked in the area so met A lot of people through him .. obv some are close friends some just acquantinces the driving school guy actually was the one that taught me to drive about 20 years ago still see him in the shops etc
  20. I know a guy owns a driving school and registers the car in his personal name and removes the dual controls and polishes them up and trades them in as privately owned .
  21. Sometimes there alright for a cheap runabout mechanic friend of mine used to buy the focus estates and used them like a works van he wasn't selling them on though just ran them till they were scrap or only worth a few hundred
