Beat me to it Mark Nice unit MrC, perfect for your high value relatively low volume set up - hope it goes well.

I've had 2 or 3 really good weeks buying stock

But just don’t say. ”So, going forward I shall continue to join in the banter.”

Now Alanis Morisette should have used that line in her song because that is actually ironic

Element of truth but only affects some models with others having to be reg before year end. Wife works for these brands (and others). VW saying costs in excess of £1bn

Pain points when I was in corporate world, shit like that and the dreaded term "going forward" provided some real gravitas during board meetings. Now it makes me cringe. latest irritation is people starting replies to questions with "so."

I meant, I would pack in (in reality find a unit) but simply "keep" the cars and just leave them all road legal, insured and taxed and in the road.

Hi Marc I too am a home trader but I currently have about 15 cars (including my Transit and my car transporter) on my driveway, only the Transit is in the road, right in the very corner of the cul de sac under a tree (where no one else would want to park). I was worried sick about the neighbours but to be fair they have taken a genuine interest and I go out of my way to befriend them and to respect them. There's still one or two that I "worry" about and one two faced bastard (i can just tell). I do NO mechanical, valeting or prep work at home, it is all farmed out (or done quietly in my garage). I am a quiet neighbour with a lot of cars. Carry on for as long as you can, it may settle or they get bored. My immediate neighbour has offered to take me to collect cars and my postman has actually taken me on 4 or 5 runs. It can and probably will turnaround. Don't worry about the council until it happens. The first neighbour to complain to me will receive. "I park nothing in the road (except the van). If you want to complain, I shall regsiter and tax all 15 vehicles and park every fucking one of them down the street, you decide your next move."

Took a call yesterday. Im interested in your BMW Me: Which one sir, we have 4 The Touring Me: Yes, still available, how can I help you? I'm also interested in your Focus ST Me: Yes, still available I'm also interested in your 325 Coupe, infact I am interested in a few of your cars. What discount would you do on the 325 Coupe? Me: I don't do discounts and it is fresh in. Do you deliver Me: Yes, I can offer delivery That's great becuase I am too busy to come. Me: No problem, cost will be £X That sounds fair - Can I pay you now with my debit card for the BMW 325 Me: Sorry, I cannot take card payments remotely, only in person. You can bank transfer me the payment, I will send you a proforma invoice. Oh ok, I just need to go and talk to my wife and call you back. Radio silence ever since. Sold the Touring next day to someone else anyway, full price + £100 to extend warranty.
-
It's one of the reasons I prefer card payments - yes, I pay 1.75% (credit or debit) but no trip to the bank to pay in cash, so only actually .75% extra - worth it in my book. Still prefer bank transfer of course but you can't have it all.

CRA - Conclusive Action Required Legally

I'm going to open a can of worms again and say. This is one Topic which should be in the Secret Room. Google CRA and customer may land here -

Is it me? How on earth could anyone think we are only responsible for existing faults? Surely it is our job to put faults right so that the car leaves fault free (meaning we would be liable for nothing). I personally consider myself responsible for all faults past, present or future for 6 months (unless I have told the customer and stated on the PDI something like AC not working, customer aware). I say within 3 months (my warranty period) I will fix everything except wear and tear items (I mean obvious ones like tyres), hoping they agree to that and don't start spouting CRA. After 3 months, I would dig my heels in but as an honest trader, I genuinely want my customers to come back if they have a fault on their cars within 3 months. Of course, I hope they don't have the need to but equally I am more than happy to oblige. I can categorically state that there is not one customer whom wouldn't buy another car from me or recommend me to a friend. For the avoidance of doubt, Of course we ARE repsonsible for NEW faults except fair wear and tear. -

See I disagree - the warranty is valid for 3 months or 3k. IMO the owner deserves the cars warranty to be validated regardless whether the car is work a quid or a hundred grand. Otherwise, what’s the point in doing what we do, what value do we add? Caveat - except when you have done a deal with Billy for a sold as is and he is renaging on the deal, i.e wanting his cake and eating it. Again, so what whether it was there before or not and IMO, even a clutch isn’t a wear n tear item within my warranty period (not sure what else could even be argued as wear n tear in a gearbox). I think it is completely reasonable for a customer to expect his gearbox to last throughout the warranty, regardless whether it is a wear and tear item or not. -
But Halfords are open 7 days a week until late - otherwise I completely agree with you.

I and the 3rd party garage both use the Snap On Solus, a great piece of kit but even that cannot go as deep as full dealer level diagnostics, so whilst you clearly make every feasible effort, it isn't fool proof and like you say, it won't pick up a worn bearing, so a moot point in this particluar OP. -

That might be the difference, you say we whereas I am I (by my self). Who does you scanning, I'm confused -

Who cares whether the fault was there at POS or developed since purchase? Of course the fault developed since purchase, that's the whole point of a warranty and probably the reason a customer bought from a dealer instead of chancing their luck by buying privately. Is it just me, as responsible dealers (whom most here seem to be) - we ensure there are no faults at POS (unless noted and customer informed) and we honour our warranties within 3 months (or whatever term we agree). Why are we talking about getting out of fixing things (within warranty). It might be a cheap car but to some people, spending £2k is the equivalent to some of us spending £20k.
