  1. I'm talking about the customers.... nearly ALL of our customers have more common sense that a Minister! ps. please note the nearly bit before i get flamed alive. Government ministers that travel around in diesel cars and diesel trains, and have everything they buy delivered in diesel lorries... etc.
  2. Used diesel cars will go up in price, there is still a strong demand for Fuel Efficient cars. Petrol 1.0 turbocharged = 35mpg or 1.6 TDI = 65+mpg
  3. I was thinking this... but didn't want to say it.... Andy, the CEM (Central electronics module) is under the glovebox, has lots of wiring plugs going into it and fuses in it. I would be tempted to unplug them all and reconnect them and see if it starts. Also make sure the wiring to the module isn't chaffed anywhere close to the unit.
  4. Hi Andy.... Just got to tidy that up first.... System : Engine control - 52U / Diesel CR/EDC SID 803 0380 - Glow duration control unit. Error Message : Signal faulty. 1412 - Exhaust gas recirculation control. Error Message : Signal faulty. 1934 - Driving speed signal. Error Message : Signal missing. C121 - CAN communication with ABS/ESP control units. Error Message : Signal missing. 060D - Accelerator pedal position sensor. Error Message : Signal faulty. C104 - Communication between central- electronics CU and steering col. sw.. Error Message : CAN fault. C140 - Communication with central electronics. Error Message : Signal missing. C073 - Communication with engine control unit. Error Message : Signal missing. 0504 - Brake light switch. Error Message : Signal faulty. 1935 - Brake light switch. Error Message : Signal faulty. Ill mull it over...... supercalifragilisticexpialidocious ......
  5. Id ask him to drop if off with me and make sure it was water tight (ie not holding water inside the car anywhere) and that the heater was working correctly (demister flap moving etc) and pollen filter not blocked. Most of these faults should cost very minimal.
  6. Hi Double M Its BCA standard procedure to "fob off" Could we please have the age and mileage of the car? The grading does take this into consideration. I know your pain, Ive just bought a Skoda with a previously damaged headlight not declared, its only a Xenon one for £360! (that's for a bare one without ballast and bulb)
  7. I agree with the above. Even if its just been serviced elsewhere we tend to make sure it has been carried out. It is ok to look at filters and see if they require changing, especially with air filters and pollen filters. Brake services... now this is something that always get skipped. Customers don't understand the importance of this one.
  8. Everyone seems to be missing the fact that Insignias are infact not made by Vauxhall ..... they are made by Cadburys. They are pretty poor, if i was a customer, i would want to hear that is is free from all of the usual faults and that there is a warranty to cover the usual faults for at least 6 months. If necessary, put the price up with a warranty?
  9. I wouldn't authorise 60% of anything unless i knew the full price Ill take that as a lot of money...
  10. Yes you have done well to get a bit of money out of the customer. Can you share the labour fees with us?
  11. I think you should perhaps send him a box of chocolates and some flowers...
  12. I think after 10 days he shouldn't be asked to tip up anything on a fault like this. Fair enough if it was brakes, suspension, tyres etc.. but a lambda sensor failing 10 days after delivery would not be seen as wear and tear by a Judge. Just my view. Is he using a "specialist"? whats the labour rate? Total charge for labour?
  13. The problem with that code is that it could either be electrical or mechanical. Its saying that the signal from that sensor is reading too high and it cant adjust fueling to get it within spec. It doesn't necessarily mean the sensor is duff. As tradex says, coolant temp sensors are a real weak spot on these. I think they even have problems leaking and running down wires to the ecu if my memory serves me right? Although i would have thought if your sparky was any good he would have checked this already.
  14. Has anyone done a compression test? Checked cam timing? Sparkys don't often have the nous to check this first. Can you post the exact codes?
  15. I presume it’s a Petrol? Whip the spark plugs out and give them a thorough checking, maybe even change them. We had one with a strange noise and it had a spark plug where the insulator tip had cracked and was rattling around and gave off a horrible tappet style noise. The bad news is that we also had one with play in a gudgeon pin that sounded like a tappet too!
  16. I go off the colour of the oil on the dipstick instead. If it has any signs of water in the oil on the stick... walk away. The amount of Timing chain Vauxhalls we get with mis diagnosed head gaskets is unreal.
  17. I have a theory about these ECU repair companies.... I reckon most of their money is made from testing. I have never had a genuine faulty ECU fixed... i.e blown circuits etc. Whats the fault on the current one?
  18. I can sense a splurge in customers wanting to use credit cards, Due to the dropping of charges. How long until the merchant services push the prices up for credit cards?
  19. It would be a pretty low thing to do to lie about having a poorly family member. I would give him his money back. It sounds as though he has enough on his plate. He might come back and buy one at a later date. Or if you have doubts... hold onto £100 and give him a credit note for £100 to be used against any future purchases.
  20. Ive successfully carried out forced driving regens up to 240% full. Just be careful and carry a fire extinguisher! and some running shoes..... We remove full ones from other cars and wash them with the steam cleaner... corsas, renaults etc.
  21. Hi Andy What are you reading it with? 99% is still ok to regen on these. Have you had the fuel filter out to check for oil contamination? Any codes in the engine ecu? When was the last timing belt done? We see these done elsewhere with incorrect cam timing giving poor idle and starting issues.
  22. The actuator on this car should be vacuum operated with a electric potentiometer on the top of the actuator to monitor the rod position. Firts of all check there is vacuum to the acutator on the turbo. When the car starts it should draw the rod back and close the vanes/wastegate. If you have vacuum there then you need to make sure the rod is not seized. Every part for this turbo is available seperately.
  23. Its gone very quiet, I have just read that it is now free to join until 2019. Surely if you are keen to get people on board, this forum would be a good place to brandish this? "How much does it cost? Here’s the best bit It’s absolutely FREE! No it’s not an error, as an association we want to help you and until 19-01-19* there is no charge to get all the benefits of being an approved IMDA Member." There is no note on the website to go with the *? So what is the *? Unless Ive missed it?
