  2. To me, a customer does not care about the reasons you think you deserve your money. Its all well and good saying I never take offers and I have prepped the car to an ultra-high level, however the customer cannot know that as they expect a certain level of car. In my experience, the hardest battle being internet base is getting the customer to pick up the phone, then following through with a visit to view the car. You have to give them a reason to pick up the phone and being internet based that come down to just a few things...... Price and on certain cars Spec\Desireability. Like others have suggested the picture setting does not do the car justice. But who knows, you may well sell it straight away as the right car for the right person will sell and I wouldn't listen to my advice as I'm having a shocking run at the moment.......... Whilst I agree here, buying patterns are changing. In my experience the younger generation are more price orientated, there will always be exceptions but in my opinion, people want perceived value and the ease of dealing with a one-stop shop. Look at the success of WBAC. I never thought that a company like that would have such success, just another indication of how the market has changed drastically. Small independents will shortly be a thing of the past.
  3. £1600 for 45 cars!!!!! I mean WTF is going on here. I pay 1800 inc for 20........
  4. A friend of mine sold a £25,000 range rover to an absolute scumbag. 3 weeks after he purchased the vehicle he reported a large dent on the roof. Long and short of it is....... he went to court, where the scumbag was armed with a quote of £1500 and aerial views of his rather big house surrounded by a large fence and gate. My friend said as he turned up to court he saw the car in question and there was a huge dent in the roof that was completely unmissable. having shown the judge that the customer had signed a PDI form which did not show a dent in the roof. The scumbag claimed as he has rather short he could not inspect the roof at time of purchase. The judge ruled on the balance of probability that the dent was present at the time of purchase and ruled against my friend. The guy hadn't even got the work done. To this day he still cant bring himself to talk about the situation without tearing up!!!!
  5. I used ECU testing for my last corsa d ecu and they sent it back saying there was nothing wrong with it..... there clearly was. Ended up having to get one of ebay coded to the car...... worked a treat.
  6. What is the code, P0012,13,14,15? if so, they all relate to valve solenoid's.... very common I've changed loads. The exhaust side is super easy to change, the valve side a bit more annoying.
  7. I'd imagine the seller is losing all day long. I'm sure by definition an injector is wear and tear....... but if the fault is preventing the operation of the vehicle that a reasonable person would expect, you are losing. Its all down to interpretation, but that's my interpretation.
  8. Completely spot on..... Just I don't believe a pdi is proof that many faults weren't present at the time of purchase. It will help with a starter motor issue, but if a customer has a problem with a blocked dpf that renders the car undrivable within the first 30 days, I highly doubt that any judge in the land with side with a car dealer because he did a pdi before he purchased.
  9. But a customer is exactly that, a customer. He's not an engineer. Pdi is good for tyre depth, locking wheel nut location, etc, but you can't expect it to save your ass if a serious fault happens with the first 30 days. I just can't see a pdi saving you when sat in front of a judge.
  10. I think a lot of emphasis gets put on a pdi. Don't get me wrong, I do a pdi, I just don't believe it acts as proof as there being no fault present at point of sale. How can a customer sign to state there was no fault present at point of sale? Maybe I'm different to everyone else, my pdi gets done as soon as I get a vehicle....... It can be months before I sell the car. I never give customers a copy of a pdi as I deem it irrelevant. Within the first 30 days I will break it down like this...... Is there a significant fault with the car? If so then offer to repair under warranty or refund... If there is a minor fault with the car? (98%) offer to put right and no offer of refund. It is always up to the customer which route to take, but I am not prepared to take back a car with another owner because there is a knocking noise coming from the suspension, the airbag light has come on after 7 days, the starter motor has stopped working, etc. These issues are just normal day to day issues that happen on cars. That's why there are thousands upon thousands of garages.... It's a small issue, I'll gladly help you out but if you choose to go the other way than so be it.
  11. Whilst I really wish I could operate like this, I could never get away with it. What would you do if a customers car needed injector seals, stretched timing chain, abs pump was faulty, etc? In my experience, there are endless amounts of wear n tear issues and so many people seem to lose all rational when a light or a defect presents itself. I operate my own warranty, which lists what is covered and what is not, but id guess 70% of my come back work is stuff that is not covered under my warranty. Just last week I had to get glowplugs changed on a car I sold for £3250 because the car was struggling to start in the cold and the customer was threatening to back the car after having it for 29 days. You can be as clear as possible at the point of sale, but as soon as anything comes to light that requires a customer to part with a penny, all that goes out the window. Its like they have never heard of cars getting repair work done before. Having been to court on several occasions, 50 quid here and there is a lot less stressful. Just my 2 cents........
  12. I have managed to get out of trouble by selling 2 whacky cars. An old classic beetle and a land rover defender that I pimped. If it wasn't for those 2 both with a lovely profit i shudder to think........ now onto the quiet months!
  13. Well......... There we have it. I shall also not be responding further as this is a gigantic waste of time.
  14. That's today, in 3 years time the variety and the range of these cars will be different. What % of people drive the distance of London to Glasgow? Most people drive a couple hundred miles per week. The landscape will change extremely fast and how cars are viewed, driven and sold will change completely. This job will change dramatically within the next decade. On a positive note...........
  15. Every household won't be charging a car tomorrow, in 30 years time when the whole fleet is electric and autonomous i can see the power will be drawn predominantly from renewable.
  16. I joined motors 2 months ago, by far and away from had the most leads/sales from them. Maybe it's just me, But I am on cargurus/at/ebay/motors, Autotrader was a complete waste of time for the past 2 months.
  17. I'm not sure what all this relates to. The comments that Met made seems to have caused great offence and I can not see why. If they want to set up an organisation....... crack on. However, if this is what I can expect for my money then I certainly won't be joining. ......... Deep Breath
  18. From the outside looking in, the above quote seems fairly harmless and playful to me. What has followed is petty and ridiculous.
  19. I use autosales systems. Works well for me
  20. Well, I don't agree with you at all. If I have a part service history in the future I will continue to advertise as service history...... As that is exactly what it is. In fact I have just taken a Px in today, it has 3 receipts, no service book and is 10 years old. The very first thing I shall be putting in the advert is 'service history'
  21. How does one define service history? I sold a car years ago that had full skoda service history and was advertised accordingly. I had a customer turn up and not buy the car because it was just a service book with stamps in. I called the garage in front of him, but this was not enough for him as he could not see what work had been carried out. In his opinion, my car didn't have a full service history as there were no invoices, Equally, people have claimed that a fully documented car does not have service history because there is no service book. If the car has had a service and there is documentation for this, in my opinion, there is a service history. If they were not happy with 1 service then perhaps they should have told you before committing to buy
  22. In my opinion, you have....... No service history, Service History (Part, Some, however you want to describe it) or Full Service History. Some people list each individual service, some don't. If It had one service, it falls into the service history category. Yes, you could have put in the advert..... "this car has only had one service that we know of", but i have never seen it. If a car has a full comprehensive history most people will completely advertise this point, if the car has a limited history then they don't.... simple. I had a similar case a couple of months back...... The car had no service history, I didn't list anything. The customer phoned up a week later asking for the service book, I explained the situation and they were not very happy. I personally think you have been reasonable.
  23. Morning all, I was curious to hear about some court cases you guys have been to. You hear lots of horror stories from people who have lost the most horrific court cases, but there must be some thrilling tales of victory also. A friend of mine lost an horrific ordeal this year, where a scumbag customer won because the 25 grand range Rover he purchased had a dent on the roof 3 weeks after purchase. The customer actually turned up to court in the dented vehicle armed with a body shop quote of £1600. The judge ruled on the balance of probability the dent was probably there at point of sale. The scumbag claimed he was too short to inspect the roof when he purchased the car! I myself have been twice, once when the customer turned up 10 minutes late (detailed on this forum) and another where the customer had driven the car 5000 miles, the EGR valve stuck open and he continued to drive. I won both of them, albeit one was by default. This has definitely changed my Outlook on how I deal with complaints. Previously I would just given in to the customers demands.
  24. £100 for petrol boss? They did have to come all that way ....
  25. Having just scrapped through October and now moving onto November I was wondering how everyone else seems to be getting on with diesel stock. Obviously sub 1000 cars sell, regardless of what they run on (or they should!) However, I have some cracking 4000-7000 grand diesel stock that last year you would have been blessed to by at the prices I gave for them. I just haven't been getting calls on them and I was just curious to see how everyone else has been getting on. Obviously for the majority of the trade, it does seem slow, but has the scare mongering killed the diesel buyers? Last month, I predominantly sold petrol cars although I did have a 1.4tsi engine blow up, but that deserves a whole seperate thread and it's too raw to speak about just yet!
