  1. I very much doubt that HMRC are now going to start chasing Facebook ‘ ne’er do wells ‘ or anyone else without assets or funds.
  2. Clearly the guy has issues,he may suffer from Autism.Whoever sold it to him needs to be penalised,it should have been evident to them within 2 mins of meeting him.I am sorry to say but I think the problem maybe that you need to employ ‘pro’ salespeople who are able to qualify your punters better.I started advertising our 7 Day Money Back Guarantees nearly 25 years ago which quickly routed out any difficult punters ……..and it generated a lot more business for us.It was one of the best things we ever did .
  3. Named drivers don’t appear to qualify for no claims discount when taking out their own policy. We had a similar experience having been individually named for social domestic and pleasure on our fairly expensive company fleet policy which we had with the same insurer for many years. When we retired ,we were taken off our company policy and took out a new private policy with the same insurer. They accepted my application which included full no claims discount so I settled up.Sometime later,I was informed that my no claims discount had been disallowed and that the cover would be cancelled if I did not immediately pay the balance they requested.Although I thought this to be very unfair,I paid the balance ‘ under protest ‘ and complained to The Ombudsman. Sometime later The Ombudsman service got back and they agreed with the insurance company that we did not qualify for any no claims discount and we would have to start afresh having been previously comprehensively covered to drive any car by the same insurer for 40 years without making a single claim.
  4. You guys are the unsung heroes of the trade. The thought of doing Scotland to East Anglia twice at the moment …….
  5. I remember when auctioneers did look after you ‘ know what I mean Harry ! “. The best ones of course had their own catch phrases .If Andy did Rothwell I probably bought from him.I hope he does his memoirs,ha ha the millennials will open their eyes.
  6. All the best guys,to,buying well, quick knocks ( can you get them now ),good net margins, plenty of prime chucky, good retail swappers, less comebacks, cheaper prep, spending less with AT,finding good all round mechanics and staying away from EV’s.I have to say that I am pleased I am not involved anymore.
  7. On the face of it,it appears to be an ‘on premises’ contract but CHR 15 is wide ranging and Small Claims Court Judges ( who are not fans of used car dealers and tend to side with claimants ) may interpret the law in different ways.Who did you invoice, was it the son,his mother or her brother.Would you be able to prove to a judge that the brother ( a close connected party ) inspected the car on your premises and made the contract after contacting his sister. Also did you establish what qualifications the brother had in order to carry out an inspection. For instance anyone trying out a car on my pitch had to give their name and address and provide their usual signature and if they were ‘ in the trade’ to state where they worked. ( I got caught out on that one once )
  8. Cazoo down 24% today to 22 cents …….to quote Kenneth Wilsonholme ‘they think it’s all over etc ‘
  9. 2 months, that’s not bad for DVLA ,try registering an ex MOD vehicle !
  10. Brings back memories of cashing in tax discs
  11. 20 grand more ! No wonder Stratstone are apparently quoting £2500 to service a Range Rover
  12. I was at my old pitch today and they were discussing trying to replace a mechanic who has left to earn a lot more money at a main dealer. As adverts rarely work, such is the scarcity of good all rounders,it is apparently better to poach another one if you can. However I am told signing on fees of 2 grand are now commonplace.Has anyone else come across this ,we are in the North East,it is probably 5 grand in the South East.
  13. Spot on, I think it is called ‘ protecting the down side ‘. Also if you want to make any money retailing older stuff, unfortunately the reality is you have to do the lions share of the prep yourself.
  14. Kwik Fit ! There is the answer. There is probably little wrong with it.Anyone who has been in the trade for a while has a Kwik Fit story. They are worse than the main dealer free health checks.Unless things have changed,Kwik Fit fitters have daily sales targets and get paid 10% of jobs and if they miss their target ,they get bollicked.Kwik Fit should be able to tell you the mileage if they think they will get work. They may have done a lot of miles,so you could refund them less at least 40p per mile and charge for any paintwork ,a valet and probably collection.
  15. It might well need discs and pads.We did our own 12 month warranties and occasionally we would investigate claims especially if the customer was from out of our area.I recall one guy claiming for a turbo on an Astra 1.7 diesel estate that he only had for a short time. His local garage confirmed the job so we gave the go ahead . Replacing turbos on those Astras was not uncommon but for some reason I sensed something was not right.I checked where he lived on Street View and he had a bloody great caravan parked on his drive !
  16. I doubt you are getting the true story. The car could have been purchased for his partner or ex or ‘ bit on the side ‘ and they don’t want it or might even have fallen out.Have you spoken to her to establish who she is.At the point of sale did the buyer state that it would be used far away by a third party covering long distances.I think that is material information a dealer should know when selling an older vehicle.Firstly and to cover yourself,I would email informing him that as the car has been inspected and having stated as being unroadworthy, the car cannot be used on the public road.If he wishes to process a claim under CRA 15 he or his partner should promptly send a photo showing the current mileage reading together with copies of the said inspection reports and their receipts. He should then arrange to have the car trailered to his home address which he provided at the point of sale. That you will then collect it and your engineer will then promptly carry out a CRA Post 30 Day statutory inspection. If this is not to his satisfaction he should then contact his local Trading Standards Dept. who will then usually contact you with their observations. if he has been telling you Bullshit,in my experience he won’t cooperate.
  17. How far away from you is he located.
  18. You might have to become part of the LGMGBGT or whatever community .But if you actually saw a GP,you did well.A lot of surgeries now don’t answer the phone but a message says that you are first in the queue and 20 mins later you are still waiting so you hang up which is what they want you to do.Their websites now just say ‘ please don’t bother us if it is not urgent as we are very busy ‘ and if it is urgent dial 101 or whatever. You can’t speak to them about an elderly relative you might be looking after because of ‘ patient confidentiality’ As for prescriptions,it takes 3 days here to get one and chemist shops now appear to be closing up,I think Boots are closing 200 shops.Everything gets harder,an ex trader friend described how he changed a headlight bulb on his 66 A4,it took him 4 hours and had to put it on a ramp and drop the front bumper .
  19. It might mean that stuff at auction with a ‘ no docs ,get your own ‘ description will be a lot cheaper ! With a finance repo with no docs and still reg’d in the previous owners name,it could take months with DVLA to get a new reg doc !
  20. I wouldn’t risk buying older stuff with no description online. With physical auctions you get a close up feel of a car .In the distant past ( when cars were cheap to fix ),I would often buy non runners but only if the opening bidding was quick which usually meant they had been doctored. It is worth finding a physical auction with good main dealer vendors even if you have to travel long distances.
  21. Nothing changes. For as long as I can remember, there are usually a few quiet weeks at this time. I was at my old pitch today which sells plenty and they are also quiet .It’s like the early to mid November window when prices usually drop and you can stock up .Good luck with your new pitch.
  22. It’s me is right provided you don’t buy many.I had quite a few run ins but had quite a big account with BCA so had to tread carefully. The most memorable one which I have mentioned on here before was a mileage problem on a ex Autolease car. Our punter had the car for about 3 months before finding some additional history showing it had done another 30k.So I nipped it in the bud and swapped it for a newer and more expensive car, which I taxed and filled up etc.I initially contacted BCA whose reply was negative as usual so I decided to contact Autolease.I got a prompt but abrupt letter in reply in which they virtually told me to ‘ piss off ‘and not to contact them again. This was ideal so I sued them in the Small Claims Court and welded on various consequential damages claims..On the day,BCA flew their legal guy up to Newcastle on behalf of Autolease. He was a very nice guy and explained they would take it on the chin as they couldn’t upset Lloyds Autolease . He also said that because BCA get so many claims on any given day ,it works better to fob traders off and most go away.I can’t remember how much exactly I was awarded but we were into pocket by several grand .After that any problems we had with BCA were promptly dealt with.
  23. The sale is void. How long would it take to contact Experian ( the biggest ref agency in the world ) to get sense out of them to confirm their mistake .Even if they did, it might still bounce back in the future when the car changes hands.Included in the exorbitant buyers fees which they now charge ,buyers are indemnified against this and it was also described as a Premium Select vehicle and an Assured entry which attracts a further fee.You used to be invoiced for the sale price plus an indemnity fee which covered everything.BCA ‘s hard line works because most traders shy away. You have to deep dive into BCA T & C’s and quote both them and those for the National Association of Motor Auctions of which BCA are a prominent member.
  24. Make sure you send them a copy of your Experian report. Its upto BCA to contact Experian to find a remedy .
  25. So basically BCA owned the vehicle as it was entered by their subsidiary We Buy Any Car and both appear to have failed to identify the mileage data discrepancy while carrying out their own due diligence checks. The data discrepancy may only be an error but it is material to the description and therefore it can no longer be considered a UKCGR premium vehicle. Under the circumstances,I would request ( by email ) that they rescind the contract but alternatively you might consider accepting the vehicle if the selling price was reduced by £1500 or whatever and the Assured fee cancelled. You could also enquire from the BCA guy which section of BCA T & C’s you need to refer to with regard to mileage discrepancies effecting Assured entries with BCA owned and entered vehicles and their right to charge storage fees while they are investigating a problem which they themselves have caused and that you require a definitive reply within 48 hours. I would keep emailing them and always be polite if they call you. This appears to be straight forward ,there will be various other angles you could follow. Please keep us informed.
