Because I do it as a private seller at the moment I am trying to buy under 5k maybe a bit more for certain cars and sell for 500, maybe 1k profit. (just found a desperate seller that wanted a Skoda Kodiaq that sold me his 12plate Merc c220 82k miles for 3500 and luckily I sold it in 5 days for 4750£) So you dont declare your trader earnings for tax or NI, you dont have trade plates and you i imagine use these cars on test drives, You dont put a warranty on them either i imagine, Why dont you pay tax on these earning what makes you so special Come on,give her a break.Where you whiter than white when you started out.I wasn’t when I was door stepping aged 17.I paid plenty of tax in my day job though working 7 days.

Actually it is very common that there are misleading points in the government forms and no one asked for your advice about my sharpness. So please mind your own business Mr. Smart! One reason I became interested in this industry was the number of stupid car dealers whom I dealt with!!!!

Before you all have a go at me and say "I told you so".... Yes I do know BCA have some good points... Anyways bought a car with no v5 and no service history about 2 weeks ago (originally came with a blank service book) and today received a present from BCA in the post... Service book with lots of stamps in it all the way upto 120k! They hadn't called me or anything it just got delivered. Edit: Edit again:

I source most stuff from auctions . As do my friends in the trade and associates as well as part exchange there is a few online auctions you can use but most you have to be ltd or vat registered . Did used to buy some from a main landrover dealer but the guy left who was our contact and think it all goes to dealer auction now .and also a Volkswagen dealer but it changed hands so it much harder to get into dealers now for part exchanges There is a hpi free car price guide online you can always use the we buy any car etc to give you an idea what you should be paying but expect to pay slightly more as most of there stuff goes to auction .. when buying to sell on use the Arnold Clark px price checker and expect to pay a bit more buying private most dealers will have the cap and glasses price guides well online apps now that they use But in your position this might might work what i suggested above when you register as a trader at the auctions with trade insurance etc the trade catalogue has guide prices on it Look out on gumtree there a lot of badly presented cars that come up well with a polish a new set of trims and number plates If your able put a full 12 months mot on everything as it reassures your buyers hope this helps .. oh and aim higher 10 percent is not a lot but keep at it

yes happened to me a few times and arrived late in the post, it is nice given the thousands of cars they sell in a week they still have the thought of sending on these items if they arrive, Car was obviously sold with no docks so they were within there wrights to just dispose of the items you received Nice one BCA

When forum members say good luck to newbies sometimes I wonder do they mean good luck from the bashing on the forum from a selected few Well he does want someone for a grand to do all the donkey work for the expansion to a bigger site... Is that a grand before tax or after

You cant head for 10% in this job Marion , 5k car with 10% mark up wont pay the bills . , Advert bills , Mechanical work , Cleaning , Fuel to fetch it and test it , Insurance bills, that's just while your part time . Full time then the bills multiply quite considerably . VAT , Rent , Power , Services for the cars , MOT's , Repairs , Accountancy , Bank charges , and lots more . Then you will have more than 10% in costs to sell the car , There's no shame in profit when your working for yourself , Don't let this phase you though Marion , I made my daughter do it the hard way , Started with a £1,000 C2 , 1 earned a profit , then 1 became 2 , became 3 and so on and now shes into a 200k stock value and makes a good living that makes your Gas work look like a Saturday wage , I'm a cruel old fashioned type though . Get on with it , dont let anything get in your way and remember PROFIT is the key , don't be shy to hold your hand out and take the money because you will be working hard for it .

Thanks TV I used to run a couple of car washes and do the valeting before starting in this job nice of you to say I agree completely though, get the Albanian wash to do the majority of it, get your cars advertised quickly and on with a mini valet and then just give them a quick tidy up back at base.

Not really. I would stock an SL, but probably not a 911 A typical car for me might be a low mileage, FSH, 1 owner older S4 Avant or a low miles petrol Merc CLS, or E class Estate or maybe a Porsche Boxster or a MK 1 Audi TT, Alfa Spider but today I bought an Alfa 159 which I know I will make a big margin on and it only cost 5k. It is low miles, 1 owner and great history, so its a car people will travel as far as they need to for. I sold a car to Southern Ireland today. What works for me is; 1. I can afford to pick and choose cars and pick them to suit whom I perceive my customer to be. 2. I won't buy unless the car is absolutely right for me. I would rather have no stock than the wrong stock. 3. I make trading from home a positive not a negative. 4. I make not offering finance a positive not a negative. If I were dealing in 5K cars I would be going for rare rather than mainstream bread and butter. Big petrol Estates, Low miles Alfas, Saabs. Old jag XF's with good history, good Spec. Cars for mature people who don't give you hassle and don't need finance.

Can you pay a capable person £10.00 an hour to do the time consuming but not complex or demanding jobs whilst you do the jobs that net you £100 an hour ( big margin etc). I never view this sort of stuff as losing a grand or 2 on a wage, its freeing up my time to do more important, useful and beneficial stuff.

Had one in this morning , Come 50 miles on a £13,795 car . Loved what he saw, got a 05 knackered BMW 320d sport px part service history 184,000 miles and well used shall we say regards body work and interior Wanted £2,000 , silly boy Then offered me £10k for my car , silly silly boy , He left , why do they come shopping with only 80% of the funds needed , No way on earth I would ever go shopping with not enough money , what a weird hobby , No wonder they no funds as they must spend it driving round the 5 counties looking at what they cant have . Another yesterday came on £3,799 little motor in our small car section . Dad says son wants to spend 3k but he will pay me £3,,250 as the car is so clean I said well let me explain it this way We like £650 profit £100 goes to VAT man £135 goes on service and MOT £100 on adverts £75 On valet £50 towards Rent £20 on Fuel £20 on power Electric /water etc £25 web site costs £100 wages = £625 expenses = £50 profit . See why my offer is thought out and not a guess like yours He said i was just trying my luck and paid £3,799 .
