Our reply to this customer would be 'see you in court'. What an idiot! Just fu@k him off mate. ffs...they all seem to come out of the woodwork when its quiet. I'd rather fill out a Manheim survey than own one of those. Hateful things.

I try to stay away from diesels but I reckon most of the problems are caused by the type of person who nurse them. taxi drivers reps etc usually drive cars 'hard' or at least in the right gear ,saves a lot of problems. No wonder the dmf break when Polly is costing along at 40 MPH in 5th gear. diesels of yesteryear had a voice and soon let you now how to drive em

I tend to get it done if it needs doing within a year / 10k miles. More peace of mind for me, wouldn't want that dreaded phone call at 2 in the morning!

When you remove somebody's pants on an old shed, they are always going to pick fault and try and get one back on you in my book....

In all of my life I’ve only ever had ONE timing belt kit changed & that was on my own car - an old Cavalier Automatic Estate. Belts/kits/pumps; 45% of punters don’t have a clue about them. 45% of punters don’t give a f***. The remaining fussy 10% will find a problem anyway & go elsewhere cos they usually can’t afford to maintain their cars and want everything for free - often these people are referred to as Volkswagen Buyers. In my book these people are welcome to f*** off elsewhere.

The petrol ones!!!!!!!!! Anyhow, selling 80-120K cars gives me an insight into the longevity of certain cars and one thing I realised a few years ago is Vauxhall don’t make/sell a good diesel engine - the 1.3, 1.7 & 1.9 are pure shit once they’ve a few miles on their backs. Thankfully the laughable 1.3 isn’t fitted to the Zaffy, the 1.7 is on borrowed time at about 6 years old & at least most diesel Zafs are fitted with the best (of a bad bunch) 1.9 in 120 & 150bhp guise. The 150bhp version of the 1.9 engine has the dreaded swirl flaps which added to the rest of the ‘issues’ such as blocking egrs, dpfs, the occasional sensor, rattling dmfs etc. My experience of seeing a few over the years is once the diesels start getting problems they should be thrown in the bin. Add to that little list the chocolate gearboxes! I know the trade slag off Zafiras but I like one or two in stock - I don’t get rich on them but they’re steady money & generally nice ‘no-nonsense’ buyers. However I’ve seen sooooooo many knackered diesels ‘in the trade’ I’m permanently frightened off from them unless I can drive them & preferably see a bill for a gearbox refurbishment. The short answer is if you can’t drive it first before buying be warned - at over 107K it’s right on the cusp of needing a new ‘box, the timing belt etc. was due at 100K and any coughing, farting, missing of the engine will mean their are problems!! Other than that the diesels are good cars

+1 I honestly just assumed it was a typo! Very well done indeed although now the seller is reaping their reward for selling to the idiot. What a funny game this industry is!

I would suggest telling him to ring you. Then ignore any future texts. If he does ring tell him you need to inspect the vehicle. As Simon will tell you maintaing a classic car like this is part of the fun of owning it.

Why are you entertaining him? you say there was huge demand for the car so do you need grief? tell him if he is unhappy with the car to get it back to you ASAP and you will refund him as you dont want unhappy customers,,,, then sell it again.

1.6 is totally underpowered 3000rpm at 60mph. Early ones suffered from excessive oil comsumption due to glazed bores. Let's have a game. Try and pick a car that nobody can find a fault with!

This happened to a friend of ours .started selling from home , Neighbours got very jealous and reported him . Planning man came round , took reg of cars to check they were reg to him . Result is planning won , he moved to a unit and gone from good to better doing the job so it worked out great for him . At home he bought 4 bangers , and I mean bangers , rusty bangers , MOT and insurance later they were parked out side his house for the neighbours to look at . Didn't like decent clean cars on his drive he says so now his 30k car sits on the drive and the bangers on the road all outside his house , They tried moving them to NO avail, reg to his wife insured on MID and they all have an MOT and tax . Been there two years now . One neighbour complained about the state of them so he painted two of them with house emulsion paint in pink Jealousy !!!!!, route of all evil they say Hope it works out for you Marc

Simple answer is do not offer a warranty, I don’t, I never have and I tell every billy why, because I believe most of the time they aren’t worth the paper they are written on, especially on older cars way past the period the manufacturer was prepared to guarantee it. This is pertinent because warranty’s generally don’t cover wear n tear and neither does the CRA. However, Mr Customer there are a few good ones out there and there is nothing wrong in you purchasing your own insurance if you want coverage over and above. Ill be honest, it is very rare I pay a penny after thirty days.
