  1. I've had a similar problem. I found a windscreen guy that would give me a decent discount if I took the car to his workshop which happens to be about a mile from me. But sometimes the repairs are better than others. The excuse offered is usually something to do with how long the chip has been exposed to dirt and contaminents?
  2. I don't know anyone that's had any luck with these, but if the price is right it might be worth a punt?
  3. Well if anyone can figure it out, let me know?
  4. Does anyone know about this new Insurance Act coming into force on 12 August?
  5. Too much 'skullduggery' still going on with salvage. And as already mentioned, not enough profit margin. I've noticed Autotrader are now indicating cars that are 'written off' but I don't think private buyers still really understand
  6. I've been pondering the possibility of having another string to my bow by starting car delivery alongside my car sales. I've dealt with many 'trade plate' drivers over the years and understand the job. I seem to spend a lot of time around car auctions anyway and I feel it could be a good fit?
  7. This is exactly the attitude to take
  8. Which is exactly why the auction houses dont want to return to the 'bad old days' when they had to dance to the tune of the motor trade. I'm a 'home trader', what's the problem? Or are we all being tarred with being illegal traders now, regardless...
  9. I suppose its up to car dealer magazine to decide if they are going to encourage start ups and offer advice and support or pull up the metaphorical ladder?
  10. Because there's no such thing as 'trade' auction any more. Everyone is 'trade' nowadays, everyone wants to pay wholesale price; its a thing! costco and Makro are also booming, same issue. Sadly buying 'trade/wholesale' is no longer a secret society
  11. I don't think there's many cars currently advertised for under £1000 that would pass a Halfords 'special' inspection!
  12. Well, primarily a trade account means cheaper buyers fees as buying privately is vastly expensive. You'll get the v5 as opposed to being forced to register in your name
  13. Looks like Manheim have gone the same way as BCA and now offer a range of cards depending on your buying level, which probably makes more sense. Not sure how the 'buyers fees' compare as yet. Manheim have dropped the yearly subscription fee for first time set up.
  14. Depends how good the operator is? Usually if you keep your eyes and ears open you will find who your local traders use. Large auction sites can be a useful resource as lots of trades people are often around; locksmiths, screen chips, wheel refurb etc.
  15. Interesting as they offer these services to sellers prior to sales and again to buyers after. Kerching!
  16. I'm surprised they didn't ask for a 'trade to trade' deal. Because these days "everyone" wants to buy at trade price and then claim to be 'private' if there's a problem!
  17. I agree, you'll end up re-doing everything they've done
  18. As regards the Japanese auctions, I understand that all lots are viewed through terminals even on site and all bidding is therefore electronic. But, and this is a huge but, the whole system relies on honest and accurate descriptions of all vehicles by their auction houses! In that respect they are much further down the metaphorical road than our auction houses with vague/conservative descriptions?
  19. You could try sending a polite letter to the previous owner with a little something to cover postage. Sometimes all the documents and/or spare keys get lost on its way to 'the block'. I've found Manheim to be pretty good about forward on things like this after the sale, have you chased it up with them?
  20. Hmmm VED banding is changing again in 2017 i hear?
  21. Funny you should say that.Back in the day I couldnt sell enough of those V6 Vectra's, even when fuel prices started climbing. And boy were they cheap at 'the block'! Strange how many of us struggle to sell what what are described as 'bread and butter' cars?
  22. Might be alright for you guys selling nearly new but I can't see me doing this with my old bangers? But seriously, its nothing new, the auction houses already do this pick/click/buy/ deliver thing, don't they?
  23. One little problem with having VED on DD is that if your car fails its MOT just before the DD is due out, it will be cancelled automatically, and subsequently, have to be restarted. Could be something to bear in mind?
  24. Hanging around a large dealership for a few crumbs off the table was how I started back in the day. But, nowadays. I would imagine that unless you are offering them to 'mates' only, you'll have "supposed" traders from everywhere trying to buy them for tuppence? These days it seems everyone is 'trade', and its easy get insurance, business cards etc.
