  1. Welcome to to the forum Faz if your making a wage in these times my thoughts are do you really want to include other investors in your business with a lot more overheads with rent etc

keep doing what your doing from home on a 1 man basis would be my advice especially in these troubled times

good luck whatever you decide .

Had a little chuckle at my own stupidity earlier today - thought I'd share!

Honda Civic Mk8 - We've had a few of them, always do pretty well out of them and the buyers are sensible.

Almost every single one we've had is has had the boot floor missing. I've been writing that it is missing on our PDIs and explaining to customers that its missing, and at the same time wondering how on earth all these different people have managed to lose this pretty big piece of carpet lined plastic.

Today, whilst valeting our latest one - again missing the boot floor, I lift up the boot liner to vacuum out the underneath and notice that there is a little tag to hook it up onto the parcel shelf so it stays upright - but it doesn't quite reach the tag. When you pull it high enough to hook it up, the back end is the exact same height as the rest of the boot.

Then it twigs - the boot floor is height adjustable! Duh! All these customers I've been telling that it is missing, and writing on PDIs is because I'm stupid!

I always wondered why the boot floor was carpeted, and underneath is another piece of carpeting. Now I know.

School boy error . :) go stand in the corner seriously though could happen to anyone bet the previous customers were happy when they found it ..

Thanks for all the advice guys, just a quick update...

They have dealt on the car and I do have a small profit - £200, plus they have also recommended me to someone else who is coming down today to look at one of my sticky cars (6 weeks and no views) so hopefully I can get deal on that as well.

As I cant physically visit you all who gave advice, have a virtual drink from me :)

Great news probably the way i would have done it too as I suggested hopefully get your deal on the other car too keep us posted..

Wasn’t given the option when I called up but I’ll give global a bell tomorrow.
Premier were decent as a broker, they always did manage to get me a good price even on a personal policy on one of my high value cars, whilst they ask other insurers I’m just looking around and see if anyone can beat the current quote

Was just a thought mate might work good luck hope you get sorted it always good to hear others opinions on here about brokers etc for future reference so thanks for that .

Ashley was my first choice after premier but because he’s the one who got me my policy last year and he’s only moved to UK global in the last 6 months I can’t use him (as he can’t speak to his previous clients for 12 months). He is very good at what he does though

im trying to find a way I can use him though

Ive had quotes from towergate in the past at time they were slightly more expensive than think but would say there cover was better . Can you not use another rep from uk global then Ashley is not directly dealing with his previous customers did you find premier ok to deal with .

I was told by a reliable source that DVLA are only operating with few staff and are only dealing with what they deem essential work.

Heard the same thing from someone that does a lot of registration transfers for a private plate company .

Interesting reading though I think a lot of the lookers stuff been on the cards before covid as terrible as it i think a lot of companies not just in the motor trade will use covid to down size and pay off and get rid of a lot of the staff they don't need of course many companies on the other hand will see job losses due to covid also.

  8. Do your research check the tyres panel gaps paint colour match etc and the mike brewer favourite check for matching dealer number plates though the owner could always just pop into to arnold clark and buy some with the correct  id after the car was returned from the body-shop so although in  principle a good idea not fool proof way of telling anything .

Yeah, i cancelled my insurance today.

The post office employee told my friend that sometimes the system does not always let you process the v62, and sometimes this is related to mot/insurance.

Anyway, the point of all this was that I thought that by going to the post office it could be possible to tax it at the same time as uploading the v62 and not having to wait 2-6 weeks, which might actually be much longer given the DVLA has 2.5 months of backlog.

     Many thanks in any case

Its nothing to do with the mot it remains valid . And wouldn't think its insurance either I guess it might be it because it has an owner on file that would be you . Send a letter to dvla stating you have sold it to your friend with his name address and details and that he has applied to be recorded as the new keeper with his details filling in a v62 ..

That’s a really good idea. What would you do about the road tax? I suppose you could/would have to pay them for it and try and sell it to the next owner?

Tax it on the new keeper supplement i guess many would back in the  post off log book days . And post all the v5s off together in a big envelope a local main dealer that we used to buy px vehicles from did it regular

  11. Thanks I've actually done a similar thing with the buying that was part off my main business for many years once in a big way but it only a smart part of it now for around 5 friends I've met through the trade  i had to take a step back when both my own health had issues and my fathers health went down hill  so something had to give  So mainly concentrate on my own stuff as well as helping with the care  for my dad.

    • All businesses have to limit customers from the local paper shop to IKEA, it's the new world we will have to get used to unfortunately :(

Well anyone can walk in and buy so yes?

Well the new guidance is quite clear and comprehensive, as was the old, who can open, when they can open, and how to run a business that complies with the regulations, if he does not know this or studied the latest guidance should he be running the company?

I think what has happened was not just with that company but as with many companies up here they had geared the staff to the return when boris had lifted some of restrictions but only for up here Nicola to said we had to remain in lockdown  . Well reading between the lines its all i can think of .

On a slightly different note I noticed at the local asda tonight they were just letting everyone in to do there thing the social distance and queuing to get in wasn't happening this surely cant be treated as  part -time when they have available staff etc  or simply cant be bothered or it not just never going to work .

its only as good as the people running the show most of the local paper shops and smaller shops only  have a sign up here saying adhere to social distancing please with only 1 having the floors etc marked out

the problem we have is many people don't know how to use common sense in the isles in asda tesco etc are clearly marked by mainly not policed so people do what the what they want and think it its ok to invade space and just have a free for all which in turn causes arguments due to no consideration

so as for auctions workplace etc theres always going to be the minority who wont comply and it got to be policed by members of staff etc then we are going to see the people who get less and less compliant and making excuses up which will cause problems

as have a word with the wife says this is going to be our new world for some time now .

Buy not only do we have to social distance etc we have to also work with the additions that come with it .

  14. Think it could be a while many auctions probably don't know there self heard from the owner of a large local building company thats he's unsure as it keeps changing he has.been given dates twice . so i guess it will be the the same for auctions and larger dealer groups

Hookers mate you pay a minimum of an hour generally which I find a bit unfair as I only need about 4 minutes on a good day and that includes getting dressed after
