I’m still half way through a house move. Still not sure how that will work? Our sellers are pushing for exchange on 18th of may. Don’t really want to commit to a potential breach of contract.

Could really do with it going through as we are releasing capital which I will use to start up.

Sure I seen it on the news you could. Carry out a house move if it couldn't be helped and was absolutely essential no 100 percent but might be worth asking agents or lawyers the question .

A few of the people at the dealer I used to work at (large plc) are saying 11th for workshop and early June for sales.

Some the local auctions here are hoping to open for the end of may I'm told know a local lady that works in the office and met her at the local shop the other day no sure how it will go with social distancing though .

I suspect once you’ve given them the once over most p/xs are knackered.

Yes but just about everyone wanted delivery last week (I don’t deliver my polished turds) but don’t seem to want to arrange it themselves. Tbh all but one of the ‘Delivery? Men’ were emailers which leads me to suspect they were messers.

Or only half of them left lol  We take them for a drive and go through a check on the px at hand over now as well as on first viewings have been bitten in the past  with new batterys been swapped for duffers etc .

More frightening is the o2 virgin tie up if it ever gets the go ahead, virgin have  had outages for well over a week now around the country can you imagine if we get in a situation where theres only 2 providers running the show, you can have any colour you like so long as its black....not good

Did o2 not try that a few years ago with three and weren't allowed the go  ahead remember reading about it back then three used to piggy back of them but think there are separate network now if I'm not mistaken .

There would still be 4 mobile phone providers - Virgin is currently a MVNO so it would still leave EE, O2, Three and Vodaphone.

I'm not sure on broadband/internet providers.

There probably areas that virgin don't cover and o2 does with internet we cant get virgin broadband in our area . But can get o2. That's maybe a reason for the merger

Construction is as normal round here, the bloke behind our house is having his garden landscaped, on the ring road they are building a pub, hotel and Costa, they haven't stopped. The motorways are being resurfaced as well.

Interesting to hear Boyce Seen some still working on the news London way I'm in Scotland 3 seperate companies that family and friends for had closed all there sites for lockdown that I know off

My main goal is a Lamborghini Huracan but I simply can’t afford one of them, a decent 570s with low mileage can be bought for 80/90k which with a large deposit makes it manageable on a pcp deal but a comparable lambo the cost price is around £120k which makes the monthlies slightly eye watering.

I have been researching the 570’s quite a lot and although some have issues it is the same with any supercars. We had a 5.0 V10 Gallardo in the workshop with 36k miles for oil consumption issues that needed a full rebuild which came to close to 30k which most surprisingly the warranty company paid for after 2 engineers inspections.

One day Mark everything comes to those who wait ..

As a customer. I think ALL dealerships WILL open on 11 May. The answer to it is very simple. ALL customers must wear facial covering of some sort and wear disposable or cloth gloves, because as you know, car buying is a very tactile business.Protective screens fitted to service desks and handwash should be made available. Social distancing rules should also apply and a limit of customers in the showroom at any time. You are not going to see miles of customers queuing outside like supermarkets so this should'nt be a problem. So, if these rules are applied I see no reason not to open on 11 May.

Very sensible first time post I'm in the trade but I've friends and family in construction who are also being lettered by there employers hoping for may 11th guess we will wait and see what Thursday and Boris brings

Not bad. Delivery was quoted at 10-20 days and came in about 14 days.  Think I should maybe go into the PPE business rather than cars. I think compulsory mask wearing is coming - there'll be a market for millions...

One of our local paper shop sells them for about 1.00 I thought that was ok considering what some other local shops are charging one charge an old lady £29.99 for a tiny bottle of hand sanitizer

I got 50 of the 3M ones from China for £25 inc. delivery.

    Bargain

I  heard a similar story to that NHS in Scotland  ordered bottles of hand sanitizer in a large amount from a whisky suppliers only to be told once in was produced they didn't need it anymore .

What’s the recipe for Home Mad Soup? :D

I blame the spell check  or maybe that fact that I refuse to wear my glasses but In fairness some of the lads that's done work for us I think it does make them mad or maybe it's disappearing soup cause soon after they have it.  you don't see them for three days when the go on an bender .

Hope you and your family are all well .

Nice one mate. Staff morale is key.

One garage i know, he takes the boys out twice a year - cycling and golfing.

The donated xmas chocs / drinks / prezzies get evenly split out as well.

Some of the guys have been there for 20 years.

Currently he can stay open but chose not to for staff safety.

Best way isn't it . Look after workers and they will look after you well the decent ones not the ones that disappear for three days but are still the best and can't be replaced according to them . Watch this space lol

I’m the same Casper, all my staff are like family. One of my guys my missus even makes him dinners and sends then up the road with him as he lives himself. We all get on well and all come and go and help one another out and that’s the way it should be.

With regard to the mots my own car will still be getting done on its 12 months as the gap in the history would annoy me. My car is well maintained and would pass so what’s the cost of a test fee? Wallies.

ps hope you and the family are well Casper.

That's good of your fiancee mate as you so it's the nice to be like that your staff rescpect you more and will be more likely to come and go it's just nice to be nice as my dad always drummed in to us ..

any the guys I use I often buy them a fish supper or an Chinese or whatever there take away of choice is or as you say make them a meal my mum would always do it with workman  that came about the house .make them home mad soup and home made dinners she still does .

Ill probably do the same with my cars as well as there well maintained and mechanicals are all good yeah we are all ok mate apart from my mother having OCD about the virus and worried about my dad who had dementia and Alzheimer's and copd and various other problems like arthritis etc but there in the seventies dads in his late seventies and mum in her mid seventies so I can understand there fears

hope you and you family are well too

stay well stay safe and take care .

The main issue with staffing in the automotive industry is that any good mechanic sooner or later realises working for £13/14 is pointless when they can work as an aircraft engineer and make close to double that. For such a skilled job it’s seriously underpaid.

You r 1000 percent correct mark the other thing I find is the bad ones think there worth upwards of £15 an hour and claim there the best as you say any good skilled is well worth that or maybe a little more at times

any time I've had staff I've always believed to look after them not even just with wages but maybe a wee bonus at Christmas a present or voucher  for the family and something as simple as a card and a cake on there birthdays go down well .actually I sometimes do the same with suppliers

  13. Staff is difficult the old school guys are no longer around and all the ones straight out of college automatically assume there the best a wise Mann once told me never trust anyone who says there the best or good at there job but listen if others do . Guys used to send cvs in to a garage I worked in the owner used to bin them I read through a few and one of the guys look promising wish I had kept them all in a folder now at the time . But guess you never think .

Or local painters are worst and harder to find

More bullshit.I do not know any good workshops who were down 50% before lockdown. The problem I constantly hear is that they cannot get good all round mechanics anymore. There must be thousands of vacancies.I know one place who recently employed a good all round mechanic, overall it took 6 months to get him.It is probably easier to sign an out of contract top premier league striker.
