Every car I buy seems to be more or less running on air, no matter where I buy.

Every car we prep gets at least 50 quid of fuel to cover our testing, drying after valet (its that time of year again) test driving and run to MOT centre. Hopefully its near enough half when customer drives away. I think anything less is down right mean looking.

When we point out to some its got a half tank of fuel its met with.......... 'what about the other half''?!

    Cant win!

Looking from a customer point of view I'd be over the moon with a half a tank

    Quick question here guys,

One of my staff whom I do trust, his partner has been in contact with someone who tested positive, both of them got tested yesterday and neither are showing symptoms, now his partner got a phone call telling her and apparently him aswell to isolate for 14 days.

Now as far as I can read online he should not be asked to self isolate unless his partner has symptoms which she doesn’t. So if he’s off it leaves the workshop a staff member short and as a result I’ll have to cancel my planned holiday which I’m raging about as I can’t have 2 people off at the one time.

Should he have to provide me with any proof of being told to self isolate? Like anything in writing? And does it go as holidays or sick leave?

    thanks

I've heard the same as you as far as I'm led to believe he only needs to self isolate if he or his partner get symptoms or test postive for the virus

according to the gov website there is no need for the partner of a person who has been in close contact with someone with the virus but are showing no symptoms to self isolate

If you can't understand TV, then you better hope I don't do a podcast. TV sounds like he is talking the Queens English compared to my Scottish accent.

Back in the day Police cars wanted for nothing, most forces had a highly skilled maintenance force and their own garages. Getting a slot in a Police garage was a prime job for many mechanics. In many forces the cars got washed every day to.

Ha same here with the Scottish accent

I think Pendragon and Cazoo are chasing the wrong things, I can not understand why they are not looking at opening their own Auctions especially Pendragon as they already have a supply of cars.

If i were either of them thats where my attention would be focused as it seem a better business model then retailing cars.

If you build it they will come.

Said a similar thing for years was always surprised arnold Clark never did it or bought one over ..

I am sending out Xmas cards to old customers,  picture of santa with a mask on and the message " you can't sit at your xmas table with auntie mable, that would be breaking the law, please don't ignore, Boris is not inviting Doris so close the f ing door "

The only good thing to come out of covid is you don't have to sit round the table listening to boring conversation with the in laws pretending you like them or they have something interesting to say

Now that was his opening comment this morning at 9.30 am

What do you have you need valuing then i ask  .

Its a VXR Mate , mi mates wanting to buy it off me but want to know what he's got to pay me for it , fair like money so thought id ask a trader ,

mmmmm So your looking at buying a car I'm selling then was my approach . Two traders apparently told him to take a hike and value it himself .

Might buy one mate depends on deal n what I get

So I said ok , got a little time with coffee in hand , took the details of the VXR and gave him a retail figure minus £200  LOL heard his mate say "ok bud I'll tek off yer at that money then "

So my next question was now you've sold your car what you looking for to replace it then .

Be bak later mate he said , so I thought oh well my kind deed for the day

30 mins later i receive a credit checker , High High High eligibility on all levels , this was on a 20 k car .So i rang the number back and it was the same guy with the VXR Corsa . Got the money off mi mate he goes like this motor can I put 2k deposit , so i sent him the deal BOOM auto accept and hes just left with it .

Worth the effort after all .

Nice one David .. makes it all worth while .

Lol. We will take our chances. Interesting topic though because if it did come down to dealers charging for fuel im sure it wouldn't be long before the auction houses jumped on the band wagon and started charging for the fuel in the car. Wonder what op thinks about that:rolleyes:

Some of the big main dealers do charge for fuel around £15 pound as i said previously i know of one that charges even to do an hpi check from a customer point of view i don't i wont to buy from them or id be asking for it in the price  .

think the problem is they hide In the paper work and many customers wouldn't know or even check before signing  ..

We have a car in stock which came with a full tank of petrol in it and I can assure you the customer will not get a penny off as its a cracking car with good history full mot and bonus its got a full tank. Can't ever imagine us saying oh its an extra £50 for the fuel in it

As you say add it into your pricing . Can you imagine from a customer point of view if you said oh it is such and such a price but an extra £50 for the fuel in tank

from the customer point of view id rather deal with some one like you or me who includes it and would probably walk at the suggestion of being charged for it ..

Cant see how this would help in anyway to generate a sale, just a total negative from the off.

If on occasion the light has been on, I complete the deal, then dig a £10 or £20 note out of my own wallet and hand it to them and apologise for not having had a chance to top the fuel up.  When they see you are handing your own personal money out it has a more positive effect than saying "Ive just put a tenner in it for you" - all comes from the same pot.

Done both like you say it has a more personal and postive touch handing money from your wallet either that or as you say we put £10-£15 in at the pump normally when we do it it doesn't come up in conversation unless the customer asks ..

I love it when they say I sold my px to we buy any car cos their advert said I would get a better deal as a cash buyer  - no we want your px to retail if we can

I don't need finance - so no HP commission (but to be fair these days it's negligible )

What can you do me for cash ( well I still have to pay the vat and taxman) agree a deal and they hand over a credit card!! that's not cash and it costs me more to take a credit than debit card.

but the best one we had recently was a phone enquiry who had loads of questions about a car involved us running up and down the pitch in the rain (cos none of his questions were the usual owners, fsh, mot which are on our website) 35 minutes later, he thanked us for our time and advised he was only ringing because his wife had just bought the identical car which had gone back to the garage for a fault and in case they could not fix it and they gave her a refund he was ringing all dealers within a 150 mile radius who had the same car just in case he needed to arrange viewings for a replacement vehicle.

That advert does make me laugh .as did your story some people eh .

  12. Never done it never would like u we always make sure they have at least 1/4 tank but some of the main dealers charge £15 on every used car regardless for fuel some I've seen even do charge an admin fee one I know off even charges to hpi your car

for most of us id say its all part of the service we like to give
